Identifying Biomarkers for Lung Cancer Using Tissue Samples From Patients With Lung Cancer and From Healthy Participants

Identification and Validation of Molecular Markers in Lung Cancer

RATIONALE: Studying samples of tissue, blood, sputum, and urine from patients with lung cancer and from healthy participants in the laboratory may help doctors learn more about changes that occur in DNA and identify biomarkers related to cancer. PURPOSE: This research study is looking at biomarkers for lung cancer using tissue samples from patients with lung cancer and from healthy participants.

LALUCA Research Platform A Prospective Analysis of Lung Cancer Diagnosis and Management in Clinical Practice - LALUCA

Landsteiner Lung Cancer Research Platform (LALUCA) A Prospective Analysis of Lung Cancer Diagnosis and Management in Clinical Practice

This is a prospective analysis of the diagnosis and treatment of lung cancer in a real-world setting. The aim of the project is to establish a clinical platform to collect representative data on molecular testing, sequence of systemic tumor therapy and other therapies, and disease progression of patients with lung cancer. A special focus will be on molecular biomarker testing and reflex NGS testing. Another aim of the registry is the collection of quality indicators in lung cancer care. The results of the register will be used to describe the current state of care and to develop it further for the future.

Study KBP-2020-CPHG Documenting New Cases of Primary Lung Cancer (PLC) Diagnosed in Respiratory Medicine Departments and Lung Cancer Units at General Hospitals From January 1st to December 31st 2020 - KBP-2020-CPHG

Study KBP-2020-CPHG Documenting New Cases of Primary Lung Cancer (PLC) Diagnosed in Respiratory Medicine Departments and Lung Cancer Units at General Hospitals From January 1st to December 31st 2020

Twenty years after KBP-2000-CPHG study and ten years after KBP-2010-CPHG study, the CPHG proposes to conduct a new epidemiological study on primary PLC in order to evaluate and analyze the changes that have occurred over the last decade. Primary endpoint: Estimate 1-year- and 5-year-mortality rates in patients with PLC. Secondary endpoints: - Describe PLC patient population managed by pulmonologists at French General Hospitals in 2020 - Describe PLC diagnostic and therapeutic management by pulmonologists at French General Hospitals in 2020 and compare them to KBP-2000-CPHG and KBP-2010-CPHG studies - Estimate prognostic factors - Compare patient and tumor characteristics to those observed for KBP-2010-CPHG and KBP-2000-CPHG studies - Compare observed survival rates to those reported for KBP-2000-CPHG and KBP-2010-CPHG studies

Lung Screen Uptake Trial - Lung-SCREEN

Randomised Controlled Trial to Test Novel Invitation Methods and Materials Targeted to Increase Informed Uptake of Lung Cancer Screening in Individuals at High Risk of Lung Cancer

This study tests the impact of a novel invitation strategy on attendance rates to a pre-lung cancer screening lung health check appointment. Patients will be individually randomised (1:1) to receive either control invitation materials or intervention invitation materials. Those who attend will undergo a "lung health check" and be invited to a baseline screening scan if eligibility criteria are fulfilled.

LUX-Lung 4: BIBW 2992 (Afatinib) Phase I Trial in Advanced Non Small Cell Lung Cancer Patients & Phase II Trial in Non Small Cell Lung Cancer Patients Failing Erlotinib or Gefitinib

Phase I/II Open Label Trial of Continuous Once Daily Oral Treatment With BIBW 2992 - Phase I Trial in Advanced Non Small Cell Lung Cancer Patients & Phase II Trial in Non Small Cell Lung Cancer Patients Failing Erlotinib or Gefitinib.

The objective of the Phase I step is to estimate the MTD at a dose level up to 50 mg/day (i.e., overseas recommended Phase II dose) in patients with advanced NSCLC and to determine the recommended dose for the Phase II step. The objective of the Phase II step is to estimate the efficacy of BIBW 2992 monotherapy in patients with first generation EGFR-TKI-resistant advanced NSCLC at the recommended dose determined in the Phase I step.

Metformin for Chemoprevention of Lung Cancer in Overweight or Obese Individuals at High Risk for Lung Cancer

Metformin for Chemoprevention of Lung Cancer in High-Risk Overweight or Obese Individuals

This phase II trial determines the effect of metformin extended release on the risk for developing lung cancer in overweight/obese patients that are at high-risk for developing lung cancer. Metformin is widely used to treat type II diabetes and has a long history of safety and minimal side effects. At similar dosage, the drug may have potential anti-cancer activity. Metformin use has been associated with improved survival in patients with non-small cell lung carcinoma, a specific type of lung cancer, and it has also been shown to enhance immune mobilization against tumors. This trial aims to see whether metformin extended release as a preventative treatment may lower the chance of developing lung cancer, and whether it may help patients' immune system learn ("reprogram") to lower a certain type of immune cell (called regulatory T cells) that are linked to tumor development.
