Filter by:Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is a chronic complex neurodegenerative disease that targets the central nervous system and is autoimmune. The prevalence of fatigue in individuals diagnosed with MS varies between 50% and 81%. It is one of the most common, disabling and complex symptoms of MS. Another common symptom in MS patients is sleep problems. Sleep problems are seen in approximately 70% of MS patients. Non-pharmacological interventions have been used in recent years for the management of fatigue and sleep problems in MS. The effects of Progressive relaxation exercises (PGE), one of the non-pharmacological methods, on sleep and fatigue symptoms in MS patients have been reported. It has been reported that the implementation of progressive relaxation exercises in MS is a supportive intervention for sleep quality and fatigue and is recommended for future research. Another initiative that is planned to be used within the scope of this research proposal is listening to music. Although rhythm and music have recently become a topic of interest in the field of neurological rehabilitation, their value in practice has not yet been fully discovered. Suggestions are given to objectively define sleep disorders in MS and to focus on this symptom of MS. It has been determined that music shows promise in improving sleep, but more research is needed on improved techniques for sleep measurement. The main purpose of this research is to reveal the effects of listening to music and progressive relaxation exercise on fatigue and sleep in Multiple Sclerosis. The research was planned as a randomized controlled experimental study in a three-measure design with three groups (music listening, progressive relaxation exercise, and control group). The sample of the project consists of 30 individuals with MS diagnosis and meeting the inclusion criteria. In data collection, it is planned to use of the Introductory Information Form, which includes the sociodemographic characteristics of the patients, the characteristics of the disease and sleep habits, the Fatigue Severity Scale, the Fatigue Impact Scale and the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index and wearable technology. Data were analysed with Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) V23 and R software. In addition to descriptive analyses, In addition to descriptive analyses, multiple comparisons by group and time were performed using generalised linear model analyses.
This was a non-interventional, retrospective, observational cohort study involving the abstraction and review of pertinent data from medical records by participating physicians, who completed a customized electronic case report form hosted on the secure electronic data capture system.
This retrospective, observational cohort study used administrative claims data contained in the International Business Machines (IBM)® Truven Marketscan® Research Databases to describe demographic, clinical, and treatment characteristics in patients with multiple sclerosis (MS) who were initiated on siponimod, and other Food and Drug Administration (FDA)-approved disease-modifying therapies (DMTs). The study time period was from March 2018 through June 2020 (most recent available data) and included a 1-year baseline period and a variable-length follow-up period (a minimum of 6 months follow-up required for post-index outcomes). The index date was defined as the date of the first claim for siponimod or other MS-specific treatment on or after March 2019. The data analysis was performed on a combination of early view and standard view data. The initial data analysis was from Standard Marketscan data used for patients with index data prior to the year 2019. Both standard view and early view data were used for patients indexed after January 1, 2019. The early view data provided additional visibility as it contains an additional 2 quarters of data compared to standard data.
Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a chronic inflammatory demyelinating disease of the central nervous system. MS, typical presents with progression of clinical symptoms which mainly include motor and cognitive impairment, as well as reduction of patients' quality of life. Exercise is an effective approach in the management of the symptoms in people with progressive MS. Previous studies in healthy and in people with MS, reported a close relationship between cognitive functions and upper limb performance. Since patients with progressive MS facing difficulties with performing complex exercises due to cognitive dysfunctions and given the close relationship between cognitive functions and manual dexterity, a reasonable question arises whether a type of upper limbs exercises with less cognitive demands will improve the information processing speed in people with progressive MS. The aim of the current study is to investigate the effects of in-phase bilateral upper limbs exercises on the information processing speed, in patients with progressive MS, given that in-phase bilateral movements needs less attentional load than the other types of bilateral coordination. The intervention protocol lasted for 12 consecutive weeks (30-60 minutes /session x 3 sessions/week) and included in-phase bilateral exercises of the upper limbs, adapted to different sports activities and to functional training. Results from the statistical analysis indicated improvement of the experimental group compared to the control group, on the information processing speed alongside with improvement of motor skills.
Multiple Sclerosis (MS) poses challenges to balance and mobility, impacting the daily lives of affected individuals. The RAPPER IV study is a clinical trial to evaluate a balance and mobility training intervention supported by a powered Rex robotic exoskeleton for people living with MS. Aims and objectives: This study aims to gain an insight into the potential health benefits of using a Rex robot to assist in a neuro-rehabilitation intervention program focused on improving balance and functional mobility with supervision from a specialist clinician. Objectives - to evaluate the feasibility of using the Rex robotic walking device for rehabilitation with people who have mobility restrictions due to Multiple Sclerosis (MS) - to assess and evaluate the clinical effectiveness of a 5-week robotic assisted exercise program focused on core stability exercises, balance and walking using patient related outcome measures - to gain an insight into the experiences of participants and their spouses of using the robotic walking device for rehabilitation and how this has impacted on their lives A single cohort group of 20 people who were living with MS who met trial eligibility criteria were recruited. A variety of clinical outcome measurements were taken pre, during and post trial and results were analysed by a statistician.
The aim of this study is to investigate the effect of an mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR) program designed in accordance with the literature and the basic principles of the program on fatigue, self-efficacy and stress for individuals with multiple sclerosis (MS). Thirty members of the Multiple Sclerosis Society with multiple sclerosis were randomized as experimental and control groups. Participants in the experimental group received an 8-week MBSR program by an MBSR instructor. The patients in the control group continued to visit the society for their scheduled examinations and controls; no intervention was given to them. Outcome measurements consisted of Fatigue Impact Scale (FIS), Self-Efficacy Scale and Perceived Stress Scale.
Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is an autoimmune disease associated with physical disability, psychological impairment, and cognitive dysfunction. As a result, the disease burden is high, and treatment options are limited. In this randomized, double-blind study, the investigators planned to use repeated electrical stimulation and assess mental health-related variables (e.g., quality of life, sleep, psychological distress) and cognitive dysfunction in patients with MS.
This was a multicenter, non-interventional, retrospective study aiming to evaluate the real-world effectiveness and safety of siponimod treatment in Chinese patients with relapsing forms of multiple sclerosis (RMS). The data were collected retrospectively through medical records review and abstraction conducted at a single time point per patient by the investigator's site staff or a designate (at the discretion of the site, if allowed by local regulations). There was no prospective patient follow-up for this study. Obtaining informed consent was based on local regulations. Where permissible, waivers could be applied to the Institutional Review Board (IRB) or Independent Ethics Committee (IEC) as appropriate, based on the retrospective collection of non-personally identifiable data, if acceptable per local regulations. The target patient population included adult patients diagnosed with RMS (including clinically isolated syndrome (CIS), relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis (RRMS), or active secondary progressive multiple sclerosis (SPMS)), and who received at least 3-months of treatment with siponimod after the index date. The index date is the date of siponimod initiation, defined as the date of first prescription record of siponimod in the patient's medical records with RMS diagnosis. Effectiveness data (i.e., clinical relapses, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) activity) were collected from the index date, through the end of the observation period. The observation period was from the index date to the date of initiation of medical records abstraction at site, or patient withdrawal of consent, loss of follow-up, or death, whichever occurred first. Among patients who permanently discontinued siponimod during the observation period, safety data were collected up to 30 days after the last dose of siponimod.

The aim of this clinical trial was to determine the effect of multiple sclerosis on speech reception and discrimination in noise and to compare the effects on the medial olivocochlear reflex, which is thought to affect speech intelligibility in noise, with a control group. The main questions it aims to answer are: Does MS disease affect the ability to discriminate speech in noise? Does MS affect contralateral suppression results assessing medial olivocochlear function? Is there a correlation between the ability to discriminate speech in noise and contralateral suppression skills of MS patients? Data from MS patients and healthy participants will be compared. Thirty relapsing remitting MS patients and 30 healthy participants admitted to the clinic will be evaluated.
