Phase IIB Trial of Bazedoxifene Plus Conjugated Estrogens

Women at risk for development of breast cancer and experiencing vasomotor menopausal symptoms (hot flashes) will be randomized to bazedoxifene (BZA) plus conjugated estrogens (CE) for 6 months versus a wait list control. Two risk factors for development of breast cancer will be studied pre-study and after 6 months: fibroglandular volume (FGV) on mammogram as assessed by Volpara software and proliferation by Ki-67 immunocytochemistry in benign breast tissue acquired by random periareolar fine needle aspiration (RPFNA). Change in biomarkers will be compared between groups.

OneinSeven Gestational Diabetes Genetic and Socioeconomic Risk Study

The objective of the Gestational Diabetes Genetic Socioeconomic Risk Study is to generate genome wide association study data (GWAS) to calculate polygenic risk scores (PRS) for the development of gestational diabetes in pregnant women. Oshun Medical's GWAS study will be conducted by collecting DNA samples alongside medical and socioeconomic data and applying data science methodology to generate a polygenic risk score algorithm for gestational diabetes. Our hypothesis is that key genetic variants linked to gestational diabetes will be identified, and sociodemographic characteristics may impact epigenetic factors which further contribute to this risk of gestational diabetes. The PRS generated through our study will be combined with an analysis of epigenetic factors to produce a new method for predicting risk of developing gestational diabetes during pregnancy.

The primary aim of this study is to examine whether lower-risk activities displace participation in higher-risk behaviors during COVID-19. Investigators will test this aim by promoting specific activities that are expected to be low-risk when it comes to COVID-19 transmission (e.g., participating in a hiking challenge) and assessing impacts on participants' activity choices. Investigators also aim to describe adults' activity participation during COVID-19 generally and to examine secondary outcomes, including reported stress and sleep.

Is There a Relationship Between the Risk of Injury and Posture in Wrestlers?

This study was planned to investigate the relationship between the risk of injury and posture in wrestlers. The study will be included male wrestlers. The spine posture and flexibility of the athletes will be measured during standing position with the Idiag M360® brand Spinal Mouse (SM), while the overall body posture will be measured from the anterior and lateral sides using the New York Posture Analysis Method (NYPAM). Injury risks of the athletes will be evaluated by Functional Movement Screen (FMS) which was consisting of seven basic movement patterns.

Pediatric Source Control for Hazardous Particulate Exposure in Aerosol Generating Procedures

There are two purposes of this study. The first purpose is to determine the exposure seen by medical providers (e.g. anesthesiologists, surgeons, and nurses) to infectious and smoke particulates generated during anesthesia-related aerosol generating medical procedures (AGMPs) and pediatric otolaryngologic surgeries (with and without an intubated airway). The second goal of this study is to apply a local exhaust ventilation system (LEVS) to re-evaluate the exposure seen by the same medical providers during the same AGMPs and surgeries.

Providing Suboxone and PrEP Using Telemedicine

The purpose of this study is to provide medication for opioid use disorder (MOUD) with buprenorphine and naloxone, or bup/nx, and pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) for HIV prevention for persons who inject opioids accessing syringe services programs (SSPs), as part of a comprehensive harm reduction program, and assess the acceptability and feasibility of using telemedicine to implement the program. The initial visit will be conducted in person or remotely via telemedicine given COVID-19 protocols at the SSP sites in Charlotte and Wilmington, North Carolina (NC); follow-up visits will be conducted via telemedicine.
