Consequences of Obstetric Anal Sphincter Injuries on Maternal Psychology and Relationship Experience

COMPaRE
Start date: October 26, 2023
Phase:
Study type: Observational

The aim is to ascertain whether sustaining an Obstetric Anal Sphincter Injury negatively impacts intra-family relationships and increases the risk of mental health conditions, including a women's perception of herself and her self-esteem. Research in this field will ensure that the correct care and adequate support is provided for these patients in the post-natal period and beyond. Recognition of these conditions and the provision of support for these patients may improve relationships, leading to improved parenting and positive outcomes for the child. It ought to be highlighted that the sequelae of obstetric anal sphincter injuries, including anal incontinence, may manifest later on in the female life course and therefore life-long accessibility to help and therapies is advocated for these women.

Knowledge and Interpersonal Skills to Develop Exemplary Relationships (KINDER): Pilot Study

KINDER
Start date: March 13, 2023
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

The purpose of this study is to determine the feasibility and acceptability of delivering the KINDER intervention to family caregivers to persons living with dementia. Further, the investigators will examine the preliminary efficacy of the KINDER intervention at improving caregiver resourcefulness, relationship quality, and quality of care, including reduction of potential verbal-type elder mistreatment. During this study, participants will be asked to complete two (2) 30- to 45-minute surveys asking about their demographic information, caregiving situations, and relationship with the care recipient. The first survey will be sent within two weeks of beginning the KINDER intervention, the second will be sent within one week after participants complete the KINDER intervention so we can compare outcomes.

NCT ID: NCT05686486 Completed - Dementia Clinical Trials

Gentle Gymnastics and Relationship Between Family Caregivers and Residents With Dementia in Nursing Homes

Start date: September 9, 2022
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

The goal of this multicentre cluster randomised controlled trial is to evaluate the effects of a joint practice of a Tai Chi inspired gymnastics programme in nursing home on the relationship between family caregivers and residents living with mild to moderate dementia. The intervention consists of 24 sessions of Tai Chi inspired gymnastics programme for two one-hour sessions per week in a family caregiver-resident pair. The researchers will compare the practice of the intervention in pairs with a separate practice and with the absence of intervention to see if any effects are observed on the family caregiver-resident relationship. The hypotheses are as follows: - Hypothesis 1: the relationship between family caregiver and resident will be judged better after the joint practice of a Tai Chi inspired gymnastics programme compared to a separate practice and compared to no intervention. - Hypothesis 2: signs of anxiety and depression in the family caregiver and resident should be lower after joint practice of a Tai Chi inspired gymnastics programme compared to separate practice and compared to no intervention. - Hypothesis 3: the family caregivers' feeling of competence will be higher after the joint practice of a Tai Chi inspired gymnastics programme compared to a separate practice and compared to no intervention. - Hypothesis 4: the quality of life of the residents will be better after the joint practice of a Tai Chi inspired gymnastics programme compared to a separate practice and compared to no intervention.
