Filter by:High-protein intake and physical activity are important approaches to preserve muscle mass. Consuming high levels of high-quality proteins to preserve muscle mass is challenging with a plant-based diet. The healthy, older participants will follow a twelve-week high-protein vegetarian diet or high-protein omnivorous diet both in combination with a resistance training program. The change in protein intake and muscle mass will be assessed.
This study will examine the effects of protein (whey) supplementation added to the normal diet of pre-diabetes or diagnosed type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) men and women on plasma glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) and total body fat levels. Specifically, this study will directly quantify the impact of 3x/day timed ingestion of supplemental whey protein (20 grams of 80 calories per serving) added to the normal diet of free-living pre-diabetic or T2DM men and women over an 8-week study period on the major diagnostic outcome of pre-diabetic and T2DM (HbA1c levels) and total body fat levels. This study will quantify changes in HbA1C and total body fat levels in 24 pre-diabetics or T2DM participants.
The primary aim is to investigate if protein-enriched ice cream has the feasibility to increase intake of protein without substituting other foods in hospitalized older patients and secondary, if the protein-enriched ice cream has the feasibility to increases the energy intake and evokes positive emotions in older hospitalized patients
Because of these anabolic properties of ketone bodies and the fact that ketone bodies prevent muscle protein breakdown for gluconeogenesis during energetic stress, ketone bodies can be a promising strategy to prevent or treat skeletal muscle wasting. Therefore, our aim is to investigate the effect of 3HHB intake on muscle wasting and its adverse consequences during a period of caloric restriction in lean females. In addition, we compare the effects of 3HHB intake with a high protein diet, which is currently considered as the best strategy to minimize lean loss during hypo-energetic periods. To end, we aim to investigate the synergistic effects of the intake of 3HHB in combination with a high protein diet.
An intervention study on the effect of dietary guidance with focus on implementing recommended food texture, at the department of Eating and Swallowing difficulties, Region Midtjylland, Denmark. Energy- and protein intake, Weightloss, Bodymass composition, Fluid balance and Activities of Daily Living (ADL), will be measured by Bioimpedance spectroscopy, interviews and a questionnaire.
The project examines over several days how the distribution pattern of dietary protein stimulate and affect the protein turnover of important proteins in the aging perspective, such as skeletal muscle proteins.
