Filter by:There is considerable evidence that most perinatal women at risk for postpartum depression do not engage in mental health services, even when referred by home visiting (HV) programs, primary care physicians, obstetricians, or gynecologists. Thus, interventions that can be delivered via alternative settings-e.g., HV programs-are essential to prevent the onset of major depression and worsening of depressive symptoms among perinatal women. This Patient Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) funded project aims to evaluate whether the Mothers and Babies (MB) group intervention, when led by paraprofessional home visitors, is more efficacious than usual care (i.e., home visiting without the MB enhancement). It will also examine if MB, when led by paraprofessional home visitors, is not inferior to MB delivered by mental health professionals. The results of this study will inform decision-making by HV programs regarding provision of MB to perinatal women at risk for developing major depression.
The primary purpose of this study was to determine if treatment with SAGE-217 reduces depressive symptoms in participants with severe postpartum depression (PPD) compared to placebo as assessed by the change from baseline in the 17-item Hamilton Rating Scale for Depression (HAM-D) total score at Day 15 and to evaluate the safety and tolerability of SAGE-217 compared to placebo as assessed by the incidence of adverse events, vital sign measurements, clinical laboratory evaluations, electrocardiogram (ECG) parameters, and the Columbia Suicide Severity Rating Scale (C-SSRS).

Postpartum depression (PPD) is a highly prevalent and serious mental health problem and is defined as the most recent episode of depression occurring between four weeks and twelve months after childbirth. PPD has negative effects, which are usually strongest during the first six months and may decrease the quality of mother-child interaction, adversely affecting the child's behavior and emotional and cognitive development, as well as the spouse marital relationship.PPD prevalence is estimated at 10 to 20%. A recent studies among Arab-Bedouin women, reported 31% - 43 of PPD. Aims: To develop and implement a culturally appropriate intervention program by using focus group (FGs) methodology Methods and Research program description: The study includes two phases. First, qualitative study will be conducted by using focus groups (FGs) method and based on the results of this phase we will develop a culturally based program. The second phase will include implementation and evaluation of the effectiveness of a culturally appropriate intervention.
This pilot study will evaluate the feasibility and acceptability of a mobile phone based peer support intervention among adolescent mothers. Half of the participants will receive usual care plus the peer support intervention and the other half of the participants will receive usual care only.
The primary aim of this study is to assess the relationship between personality style, self-compassion and depression during pregnancy, to identify psychological risk factors, particularly personality styles, that may contribute to the onset of PPD. Additionally, the study will provide support for the effectiveness of Internet-based Compassionate-Mind Training (iCMT) as a prevention intervention for Postpartum Depression (PPD) for women in the 2nd and 3rd trimester of pregnancy. The study will also assess differences along personality predictors and depression severity as they relate to intervention outcomes (i.e. depression in postpartum and self-compassion) and engagement. The researchers hypothesize that women both at high and low risk for PPD will receive benefits from the intervention, however, those who endorse more maladaptive personality traits will likely engage and benefit less than those who do not endorse these traits.
The investigators will conduct a 6-week, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial of celecoxib as an add-on treatment to the mood stabilizer among women with bipolar I or II postpartum depression. Women who are taking a mood stabilizer for treatment of bipolar disorder in the postpartum treatment will receive either a placebo or celecoxib add-on treatment. Patients will be monitored regularly to assess psychiatric symptoms and side effects. The investigators aim to evaluate the potential antidepressant effect of celecoxib in bipolar postpartum depression.
After vaginal delivery, all of the participants will evaluate by using Edinburg depression scale and venous blood sample will obtain. Postpartum depression will consider the result of scale 13 and above according to Turkhish translate. Then leptin, adiponectin and serotonin level will compare between depressed and nondepressed women.
The project aimed at identifying neuropsychobiological signatures of pharmacological sex-steroid hormone manipulations in healthy women as a risk model for depression. The study is a double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled study. Investigators included 63 healthy female volunteers with regular menstrual cycles between 23 and 35 days. Participants were randomized to active Gonadotrophin-Releasing-Hormone agonist (GnRHa) (goserelin 3.6 mg implant) or placebo (saline injection) intervention, which was initiated in the mid follicular phase (i.e. cycle day 22.6 ±2.5). Sixty women completed follow-up and entered the analyses, except for a few drop outs on some domains. The following domains were addressed at baseline and at follow-up (16±3 days post intervention), (which corresponded to the early ovarian suppression phase of the biphasic hormone response to GnRHa): 1) serotonin transporter binding as imaged by 11CDASB Positron Emission Tomography (PET), 2) functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging (fMRI) emotional processing, 3) fMRI reward processing, 3) rating state fMRI (rsfMRI), 4) structural MRI, 5) Neuropsychology, 6) Psychophysiology, 7) Hypothalamus-Pituitary-Adrenal cortex (HPA)-axis dynamics, 8) Peripheral markers of immunoactive cell responses, 9) Epigenetic factors. Psychometrics in terms of self reported mental distress and interview based ratings were monitored across the intervention period to monitor potential symptoms of mental distress and psychopathology. Also ovarian hormone responses, peripheral blood markers, and side effects scores were collected across the intervention period.
