Filter by:The goal of this pilot study is to describe the early wound healing molecular events and the vascularization pattern associated with the treatment of supra-bony defects with access flap alone or in association with a combined formulation of hyaluronic acid and polydeoxyribonucleotides gel.
The main objective is to analyze post-surgical periodontal healing after conventional periodontal surgery where an absorbable suture coated with clorhexidine (Novosyn Clorhexidine) versus conventional sutures without chlorhexidine (Novosyn) will be used a pilot randomized clinical study has been designed. Up to authors´ knowledge until now there are no studies to evaluate periodontal healing after periodontal surgery in combination with this kind of sutures.
Periodontitis is a chronic inflammatory disease mainly caused by the oral microbial biofilm. It involves the periodontal supporting tissues mainly features gum inflammation, alveolar bone resorption, periodontal pocket formation, and tooth loosening but also induces various systemic diseases, which seriously affect the physical and mental health of patients. The response to periodontal infection is mediated by various intracellular signalling pathways leading to the production of numerous bio-molecules. Vitronectin is a multifunctional protein with a multiple binding domain that interacts with a variety of plasma and cell proteins. It belongs to the group of adhesive glycoproteins that is involved in various functions including complement activation, blood coagulation, binding to proteoglycans, and modification of the matrix. Among the various cystatins expressed in serum and saliva, Fetuin-A, an another protein is produced majorly by healthy hepatic and adipose tissues. Fetuin-A has been recognized as a multifunctional molecule related to its role in metabolic processes, insulin resistance, regulation of adipogenesis and mineralization throughout the body. The study aims to determine the expression of Vitronectin and Fetuin-A as potential pro-inflammatory and anti-inflammatory biomarkers respectively. These protein molecules can further play a role as putative risk indicators in periodontitis subjects with and without coronary artery disease following non-surgical therapy.
this study addresses the effect of the vitamin B3 and vitamin B9 on the periodontal healing at the sites of periodontal destruction due to periodontitis and evaluate its added effect to the conventional non-surgical periodontal treatment on its pivotal role in the biological activities and repair in the body in general and the periodontium in specific. The research will be conducted on patients suffering from stage I and II periodontitis that typically are to be treated with non surgical periodontal therapy, the rationale of the non surgical periodontal treatment is eliminating the plaque biofilm responsible for stimulation of host immune defense causing the inflammation and hence suppressing the periodontal destruction. the trial is targeting enhancing the treatment effect by the administration of vitamin B3 and B9 supplements which will target the host inflammatory reaction itself and directly suppressing it as well as enhancing the periodontal regeneration and the gain of the lost attachment.
The purpose of this study is to test the feasibility i. e. to examine all aspects necessary for the implementation of a future randomized clinical trial that aims to determine whether non-surgical periodontal treatment can be improved by concomitant intake of vitamin D.
This study aims to evaluate the clinical results of non-surgical periodontal therapy performed with micro-instruments compared to traditional approach (standard curettes) after 6 months of follow-up. The patients enrolled, subject to written informed consent, will be divided into a Test group (T) and a Control group (C) through a randomization process. Both groups will be motivated on the rules of oral hygiene, treated scrupulously and monitored monthly for 6 months, at the end of which the final data will be collected for statistical processing (in particular by analyzing the difference between baseline and after 6 months of the parameter "probing depth" or PD).
