Filter by:This is a non-drug study in patients with Parkinson's Disease (PD) and healthy volunteers to process and analyze their blood and optional cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) samples ex vivo, or outside of their body, to further develop researchers knowledge on LRRK2 biomarkers. Participants were enrolled either in Cohort A or in Cohort B. A blood sample was collected in each participant within a maximum of two study visits within 14 days, and an option to complete both visits on the same day.
Postoperative delirium (POD) remains one of the most common neuropsychiatric complications after deep brain stimulation (DBS) surgery. The fibrinogen-to-albumin ratio (FAR) has been shown to significantly correlate with prognosis of many diseases associated with inflammation, but the relationship between FAR and POD is unclear. The investigators aimed to investigate the association between POD and FAR in Parkinson's disease (PD) patients receiving DBS surgery. For this aim, the present study was conducted to provide a new method for the early recognition and perioperative management of delirium after DBS surgery in PD patients.
Comparison of two rehabilitation protocols in patients with Parkinson's disease and, therefore, identification of innovative rehabilitation protocols of proven and validated efficacy, through which it is possible to achieve: - Improved joint function and gait pattern - Reduction of the risk of falling or reduction of energy expenditure during physiological gait Evaluation of the increase in maximal effort tolerance · Improved cognitive performances Evaluation of the impact on the quality of life of the patient and family members Identification of morpho-functional markers predictive of clinical and rehabilitative out-come through neuroimaging study.
Parkinson's Disease (PD) patients suffer from gait impairments responsible for falls and bad quality of life: reduced speed and stride length, randomness in the temporal organization of stride duration variability (reduced Long-Range Autocorrelations (LRA)). For years, auditory cueing has been used to modulate PD gait and its effect on LRA is known. Less is known regarding the effects of haptic cueing on PD gait and especially on LRA. This pilot study will compare the spatio-temporal gait parameters and LRA of PD patients tested under three conditions: walking without cueing, walking with auditory cueing and walking with haptic cueing by means of rhythmic vibrations on the patients' wrists.
The goal of this observational study is to learn about the usefulness of physical activity measures and tremor detection using wearable devices and smartphone video to detect and evaluate disease burden in people with Parkinson's disease. Participants will wear an activity tracker at home and complete a short research visit where they will make a video using a smartphone of themselves performing a fine motor task. They will wear the activity tracker for two weeks at home.
Parkinson's disease (PD) leads to multifactorial disabilities with consequent social restrictions, especially in the COVID-19 era. Continuity of care, especially rehabilitation measures, is critical to improve or maintain an adequate QoL for patients. The Parkinson Disease Telerehabilitation Program (PDTR) is an individualized home rehabilitation program using open-source platforms (OSp). The main purpose of this pilot study is to investigate the feasibility of TR in patients with PD by using free OS platforms (PDTR PROGRAM). The target of this study was to have at least 90% of participants completing the program. To complete the program every single patient had to complete at least 80% of the prescribed TR sessions.
The aim of this study is to investigate whether a smartwatch can measure the physical capacity of patients with Parkinson's Disease and COPD in the physiotherapy practice and at home.
The goal of this clinical trial study is to learn about the effect of aquatic exercise in parkinson's patients. The main questions it aims to answer are: - What is the effect of exercise in water on balance in parkinson's patients? - What is the effect of exercise in water on muscle strength in parkinson's patients? - What is the effect of exercise in water on flexibility in parkinson's patients? Parkinson's patients in this study will do some functional tests. One group of them will do exercises in water 3 times weekly for 8 weeks.
Parkinson disease (PD) is the second most common neurodegenerative disease affecting approximately 10 million people worldwide. It is a complex movement disorder that results in reduced walking ability. Prior studies have identified declines in walking as a marker of ensuing disability. Rhythmic auditory stimulation (RAS) is a rehabilitation approach that employs the coupling of auditory cues with movement. Walking with RAS has been shown to benefit walking rhythmicity, quality, and speed. These walking benefits make RAS advantageous in promoting regular moderate-intensity walking activity -- an important health objective in the management of PD. However, there is limited research investigating the effects of RAS on walking quality and how improvements in walking speed are achieved. This study will enroll 30 individuals with mild to moderate PD where each participant will be asked to complete two six-minute walk tests, one standard test (baseline) and the other using an optimized metronome-based auditory cueing RAS intervention. The investigators hypothesize that individuals with PD will either walk farther or with more automaticity (i.e., reduced stride time variability) in the RAS condition compared to the baseline condition. Moreover, these walking improvements will be accompanied by improvements in gait mechanics and metabolic cost of walking.
