Filter by:Digital solutions can significantly improve the delivery of Early Childhood Development (ECD) services in Low- and Middle-Income Countries (LMICs). Traditional home-visits and community group-based parenting approaches require intense levels of training, mentoring and supervision of Community Health Workers (CHWs) that is difficult to sustain when transitioning to scale. Context relevant digital tools can support CHWs in delivering high-quality, respectful, and standardised multi-sectoral household ECD services by tailoring services to pregnant women and engaging male caregivers. This could have significant impacts on child development, including stimulation, speech and language development, nutrition, and cognition. Moreover, cash delivered through digital modes of payment is faster, safer, easier to administer, is scalable and has potential to empower women, influence parental investment and affect household decision making. The study will conduct a clustered multi-arm Randomised Controlled Trial (cRCT) targeting pregnant mothers across all 7 districts (and all 8 district councils) in the Dodoma region in Tanzania. Following the study sample for 15 months from 5-7 months pregnancy. The study will test and compare the causal effects of (i) a digitally supported Parenting Intervention delivered by CHWs, which aims to improve caregivers' access to quality ECD services; (ii) a mobile unconditional cash transfer which aims to relax financial resource constraints; and (iii) a digitally supported Parenting Intervention when combined with a mobile unconditional cash transfer. Findings from the study are expected to have important policy implications for the design of scalable ECD interventions targeting pregnant mothers in Tanzania and other LMIC settings.
Investigation of the combination of neonatal neurobehaviourism and motor behavior in the assessment and ultra-early physical therapy intervention of premature neonates and parental support.
For parents of children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), the severity of the child's behavior negatively correlates with parental well-being. Parental education and support buffers stress and negative effects that some parents experience. Parents living in rural areas face several barriers to obtaining support, psychoeducation, and ASD interventions due to a lack of local resources. This pilot study will test the acceptability, feasibility and preliminary effects of Attend Behavior, a Web-based behavioral parent training (PT) program, for parents of children with ASD in rural areas. The program goals are to decrease child problem behaviors and improve parental mental health. Methods: Parents (N = 40) of young children (2-11 years old) diagnosed with ASD will be recruited. A single group pre/post-intervention design using mixed methods will be used to determine the acceptability, feasibility, and preliminary efficacy. The effects of Attend Behavior on parent mental health will be measured. The effects of Attend Behavior on child problem behaviors will be measured. Individual interviews with the parents will take place post-intervention to ascertain perspectives on Attend Behavior. Acceptability and feasibility will also be measured using the Acceptability of Intervention, Intervention Appropriateness Measure, and the Feasibility of Intervention Measure. Effect sizes will be calculated to examine the efficacy of the intervention.
This randomized controlled microtrial, not just focus on parental (and child) responsiveness but also on an underlying physiological mechanism hypothesized to contribute to heightened susceptibility to parenting interventions.
Low birth weight (LBW) infants are at significantly elevated risk for a host of detrimental outcomes including cognitive, language, and social delays and disabilities, which persist into adulthood. An important protective factor for mitigating risk is sensitive and responsive parenting. While evidence- based home visiting interventions exist and were developed specifically for LBW infants, such as the Play and Learning Strategies program, parents face major obstacles in accessing these interventions. In general, interventions demonstrated to be effective through federal research are very slow to migrate to community service delivery systems. Exacerbating this problem currently is the fact that while VLBW has been increasing, and disproportionately so for those who are poor an of minority status, home visiting programs have sustained some of the largest cuts in their histories. Consequently, there is high demand for effective interventions that can be delivered remotely. Through prior, the investigator team addressed this need by adapting the evidence-based PALS program for web-based delivery using laptop computers with streaming video of in-home parent child interactions and weekly remote coaching. The investigator team then rigorously tested its effects in a sample of low-income mothers and infants with typical birth histories. Results of this randomized controlled study showed pre-post growth in maternal sensitivity behaviors and significant increases in infants' social engagement with their mothers, with moderate to large effect sizes for the intervention group as compared to the control group. These encouraging results provide a strong empirical basis for the enhanced web-based delivery method of the PALS program. Although PALS was originally developed and tested with LBW infants, the web-based version, InfantNet, has not yet been tested with this population. Moreover, emergent trends show that young Latino and Black women most often access the Internet through smart phones, not laptops. Consequently, there is great demand for improving access to evidence-based interventions by making them available on mobile devices such as smart phones. Response: To address the need for more accessible evidence-based interventions, the investigator team will overlay the InfantNet program onto the iPhone and rigorously test its effects with 60 low- income mothers and their LBW infants through a 2-arm, 3 cohort, randomized-controlled design.
The research covers the birth memory evaluation to determine the pregnancy process, the labor process and the changes in the perceived pain level during this process, the parenting behavior immediately after the birth and the process of the birth.
The overarching goal of the "SMART Optimization of a Parenting Program for Active-Duty Families" study is to advance the "development, adaptation, efficiency or optimization, and testing of a prevention intervention by using a sequential, multiple assignment, randomized trial/SMART to test multiple components of an empirically-supported parent training prevention intervention - After Deployment Adaptive Parenting Tools (ADAPT) for active-duty families negotiating multiple deployments and high deployment OPTEMPO (an army program that provides critical responses).
An intervention study to provide in-the-moment parenting tips with the goal of increasing healthy parent-child interactions leading to resiliency in high-risk children. Specifically, in a sample of parents participating in HV programs, the investigators will use a smartphone app (mHealth app) to deliver daily tailored messages with tips on monitoring and promoting child development. Daily assessments of parents' emotions, parenting behaviors, and interactions with their children will also be collected via the app. During the 4-week EMA study, parents will receive either 2 weeks of the mHealth intervention + EMA data collection followed by 2 weeks of only EMA data collection or to receive 2 weeks of only EMA data collection followed by 2 weeks of mHealth intervention + EMA data collection.
This trial examines the usefulness of two educational programs for parents with late-stage cancer who have a 5 - 17 year old child. The programs are designed to enhance the quality of the parent-child relationship and add to the parent's confidence in managing the impact of their cancer on their child. Educational programs may reduce anxiety and depression and improve the well-being and quality of life of parents with advanced cancers and their children. Recruitment occurs nationally via referral to the Fred Hutch/University of Washington Cancer Consortium team.
The goal is to examine the efficacy of the Parenting Action Plan (PAP), a booklet with information that focuses on sleep hygiene, soothing a crying baby, what to do when the baby's crying is overwhelming, identifying safe caregivers in case of emergency, and issues surrounding feeding and bonding with the baby.
