Filter by:Telemedicine (Virtual Clinic) Effectively Delivers the Required Health-care Service to Pediatric Day-case Surgical Patients in the Current Era of Covid-19 Pandemic: A Non-randomized Controlled Study
During pandemics older adults with chronic physical conditions are a particularly vulnerable population for unmet mental health needs. This is a consequence of a number of factors which include decreased access to their doctors because of restrictions in visits in order to decrease risk of disease transmission and because doctors are seconded to provide medical services in areas of high priority. Since Public Health authorities worry that pandemics may be a reality of the future, this study is being operationalized during the present COVID-19 pandemic in order to see what can be learned about different ways to provide mental health care under such constraints. The study offers evidence-based approaches to managing feelings of anxiety or depression that may have existed prior to the onset of a pandemic, or that have arisen during a pandemic. It uses principles of cognitive behavioural therapy in which participants are offered self-care tools to help them develop strategies for dealing with their various symptoms. These tools have already been shown by the team to be effective in other contexts in studies DIRECT-sc (Effectiveness of a supported self-care intervention for depression compared to an unsupported intervention in older adults with chronic physical illnesses) and CanDIRECT (Effectiveness of a telephone-supported depression self-care intervention for cancer survivors). The present study, PanDIRECT (Assisting Family Physicians with Gaps in Mental Health Care Generated by the COVID-19 Pandemic), aims to answer the following questions: 1. Can these tools be used in the community care of mental health problems during pandemics? 2. Are they acceptable to patients? 3. Using a randomized control trial, does lay-coaching of use of these tools improve their use and patient outcomes? 4. The aim of this study was to evaluate the factors affecting the ability and willingness of dentists to work during the COVID-19 pandemic and the effect of this situation on occupational burnout. A 51-question survey, including demographic and pandemic questions and the Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI), was used as a data collection method and administered to dentists in Turkey via the internet in two stages. A link to the survey (onlineanketler.com) was sent to the participants by e-mail or social media (WhatsApp©). A total of 706 participants were included in the study. The second stage of the survey only applied to dentists who are assigned within the scope of COVID-19 measures in Turkey.
One of the major problems in suppressing the spreading of an epidemic resides in understanding and monitoring its propagation patterns, and in evaluating how these are modified by enforced policies. The standard solution requires detailed information at the microscopic scales, e.g. how infected people have moved and whom they came in contact with, which is hardly ever available. The researchers propose a novel approach to the study of the propagation of COVID-19, in which a proxy of this information is derived at macroscopic scales. This will be based on two ingredients: the spatiotemporal study in shiny with mathematical models with aggregated or non aggregated data and the reconstruction of functional networks of spreading patterns, and the development of a supporting software.
LOVIT is a multicentre concealed-allocation parallel-group blinded randomized controlled trial to ascertain the effect of high-dose intravenous vitamin C compared to placebo on mortality or persistent organ dysfunction at 28 days in septic intensive care unit patients. Patients with COVID-19 are considered eligible for this study.
