NCT ID: NCT05358444 Completed - Type 2 Diabetes Clinical Trials

Family Diabetes Prevention Program Pilot Study

Start date: July 8, 2022
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

This study will examine the feasibility and acceptability of a family-oriented augmentation of the Diabetes Prevention Program lifestyle intervention (DPP), called the Family DPP. It will also preliminarily examine adult and child health and health behavior outcomes. The DPP is a 12-month, group-based lifestyle intervention for adults at high-risk for type 2 diabetes, in which adult participants learn skills and strategies to achieve the program's goals of 5% weight loss and 150 minutes/week of moderate-vigorous physical activity. The Family DPP will consist of all elements of the evidence-based DPP, along with augmentations including additional child-focused sessions in which adult participants will learn about principles and strategies for promoting healthy lifestyle behaviors in children, ages 5 through 12 years. Children may participate in certain child-focused sessions, too. The non-randomized pilot feasibility study will consists of 2 arms/groups: 1) the concurrent "control" group, consisting of adults who are enrolled in the DPP; and 2) the "intervention" arm, in which the adult participants will engage in the Family DPP (and children may participate in certain aspects of the Family DPP focused on children). The study will recruit 10-15 adult-child dyads, for the "intervention" groups, and 10-15 adults for the concurrent control group. In addition to data collected from adult participants as a routine part of the DPP, the study will examine additional adult health behaviors and health outcomes and child health outcomes (change in body mass index z-score) and health behaviors at baseline, 6 months and 12 months (program end) among participants in the "intervention" group.

NCT ID: NCT05077059 Completed - Clinical trials for Overweight and Obesity

Prevalence of Obesity and Overweight in Primary School Children in the Rhein-Neckar Region in Germany

Start date: October 1, 2021
Phase:
Study type: Observational

The study will determine the weight status in primary school children in the Rhein-Neckar Region in Germany and will analyse the development of height and weight in these children during the time of COVID-19 related restrictions by asking parents to provide data from childhood examinations. Additionally, interactions between cognitive abilities and weight-status will be studied.

NCT ID: NCT04360083 Completed - Pediatric Obesity Clinical Trials

Long-term Assessment of Rhône RéPPOP Care for Overweight and Obese Children.

LTR
Start date: February 15, 2021
Phase:
Study type: Observational

Childhood obesity is a major public health issue since it is a risk factor of adulthood obesity, cardiovascular disease, psychological disorders, and other chronic conditions. RéPPOP is a two year personalized pathway for multidisciplinary care for overweight and obese children, close to patients' homes. Short and medium-term assessments of Rhône RéPPOP care for overweight and obese children show encouraging results. Long-term assessment is needed to confirm these results. The present study aims to assess the long-term efficiency of Rhône RéPPOP care for overweight and obese children by comparing BMI Z-scores at the start and the end of RéPPOP care to the current BMI. This data will be collected through a telephonic questionnaire by the scientific manager. The study's secondary objectives are to evaluate patients and their families' lifestyle changes and to improve RéPPOP practices.

NCT ID: NCT04346433 Completed - Obesity, Childhood Clinical Trials

Sleep and Stigma: Novel Moderators in the Relationship Between Weight Status and Cognitive Function

Start date: September 1, 2020
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

The investigators aim to assess the relationship between overweight/obesity and decreased cognitive function in adolescents. While this relationship has been seen in past literature, the causal mechanisms are still unclear. Thus, the present study will assess sleep and stigma as possible moderators. As sleep is related to both weight and cognitive abilities it may be an important factor in the relationship between these two variables. Further, people with overweight/obesity have higher risk for stigma experiences which may increase inflammation through chronic stress and elevated cortisol. Because inflammation is theorized to play a role in the relationship between elevated BMI and decreased cognitive function, stigma may be an important moderator. 60 adolescent participants will complete two sleep conditions (adequate and restricted) in a randomized order, each followed by a lab visit during which participants will complete a short cognitive battery. At these visits, participants will also be given a self serve breakfast with a variety of whole and processed food options to further evaluate the relationship between overweight/obesity, sleep, nutritional intake, and cognitive function.

NCT ID: NCT04297722 Completed - Clinical trials for Overweight and Obesity

Dairy Consumption and Overweight and Obesity in Children and Adolescents: a Meta-analysis.

Start date: January 13, 2020
Phase:
Study type: Observational

According to statistics from the European Association for the Study of Obesity (EASO), taking into account the definition of overweight and obesity recommended by the International Obesity Task Fort (IOTF), the prevalence of overweight (including obesity) in European children aged 7 to 17 years is 16-22% and the prevalence of obesity is 4-6%. Some review studies3 and meta-analysis4,5 have reported an inverse relationship between dairy products consumption and the prevalence or incidence of overweight and obesity. However, some methodological issues arise from these analyses. For instance, the combination of studies with different exposures (e.g. full fat milk, total milk) in the total dairy product analysis. Moreover, since the publication of the lasts meta-analysis in 2016, new epidemiological studies evaluating the association between dairy product consumption and overweight or obesity risk have been published. Objective The aim of this work is to systematically review and assess the associations between total dairy consumption and its different subtypes with the prevalence and incidence of overweight and obesity in children and adolescents.
