Filter by:Standard treatment for recurrent ovarian cancer is chemotherapy with one or more drugs. One of these drugs, Doxil, can cause skin toxicity at the standard dosages. This study investigates using a lower dose given more frequently in combination with a second drug Gemcitabine.
Chemoresponse assays (lab test) measure the effect that chemotherapy treatment has on a patient's cancer cells in the lab. This test has shown success in a retrospective study in predicting how an individual patient's tumor will respond to a given chemotherapy and how treatment utilizing an agent that the test said that a patient's cells would be sensitive too corresponds to a longer progression free interval. This study will determine the ability of two tests used to predict the success of chemotherapy in recurrent, persistent, or refractory cancer of the ovaries, fallopian tube(s) or peritoneum by measuring how long patients live without progression.
RATIONALE: Drugs used in chemotherapy, such as topotecan, work in different ways to stop the growth of tumor cells, either by killing the cells or by stopping them from dividing. Chemotherapy drugs may have different effects in patients who have a poor performance status. PURPOSE: This phase I trial is studying the side effects and best dose of topotecan in treating patients with progressive or recurrent ovarian epithelial, fallopian tube, or primary peritoneal cavity cancer with a poor performance status.
This is a pilot feasibility study being performed in women completing front-line treatment for breast or ovarian cancer. It is being done to evaluate whether or not an herbal combination known as Essiac (ESIAK) can improve the overall quality of life in these women as they transition from active treatment to follow-up, also known as the quality of life in transition. This information will be used to design a larger randomized trial.
This clinical trial is being conducted at multiple sites to evaluate the activity, safety, and tolerability of XL999 when given weekly to patients with ovarian cancer that has previously been treated with platinum-based chemotherapy. XL999 is a small molecule inhibitor of multiple kinases including VEGFR, PDGFR, FGFR, FLT-3, and Src, which are involved in tumor cell growth, formation of new blood vessels (angiogenesis), and metastasis.
The purpose of this study is to find out the safety and feasibility of weekly topotecan consolidation therapy in patients with ovarian cancer.
The purpose of this study is to evaluate whether or not the addition of Herceptin may be of benefit to a standard regimen of carboplatin-paclitaxel.
Patients with epithelial ovarian cancer, fallopian tube or peritoneal cancer who receive surgical cytoreduction and platinum/taxane containing chemotherapy have a significant chance of entering complete clinical remission but about 70% will eventually relapse. Relapse more than 6 months following first line chemotherapy is regarded as platinum/taxane sensitive disease. Reinduction chemotherapy with platinum/taxane is known to be an effective treatment option. Therapy induced anemia is a common problem resulting in decrease of quality of life. The rationale of this trail is to evaluate the effects of epoetin alpha on reduction of therapy induced anemia, rate of transfusions and on quality of life.
Phase I will determine the MTD and evaluated the safety profile of oral lenalidomide on days 1-21 when given with liposomal doxorubicin on day 1 of every 28 day cycle Phase II will commence once the MTD is established, additional subjects will be enrolled and receive oral lenalidomide on days 1-21 with liposomal doxorubicinon day 1 in 28 day cycles until disease progression is documented.
Ovarian cancer may be caused by a build-up of genetic defects, or damaged genes within the cells of the body. Because the genes are damaged, the body is unable to produce a group of proteins called cytokines which are used by the immune system to fight cancer and some infections. The investigational gene transfer agent EGEN-001 (phIL-12-005/PPC) contains the human gene for interleukin-12 [IL-12] (a cytokine) in a special carrier system designed to enter the cells and help the body produce cytokines. This study has two purposes; the first is to determine what different strengths of EGEN-001 can be given safely without major side effects, and the second is to see if EGEN-001 is able to slow down the growth of ovarian cancer.
