Using Gait Modification to Treat Knee Osteoarthritis in Saudi Arabia: Possibilities and Acceptability.

Start date: April 13, 2022
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

A variety of biomechanical gait modification interventions can elevate knee loading and improve knee symptoms in knee osteoarthritis patients. However, there was a lack of acceptability and adherence regarding modification interventions without any explanation. Thus, this study investigates the feasibility and acceptability of foot insoles as a gait modification tool among Saudi Arabian knee osteoarthritis patients and physiotherapists. This study aims to answer the following: - Which gait modification intervention is most likely to be implemented in Saudi Arabia (SA) clinical practice, taking context, patients' clinical and research evidence into consideration? - In Saudi Arabia, can this proposed foot-insole intervention be implemented? Is there sufficient experience among physiotherapists regarding gait modification to deliver it, and will patients engage with it? How can KOA rehabilitation outcomes be evaluated in the future? The participants will be conducted over three phases: 1. The patients' interview and therapists' focus group discussion will be used to examine KOA patients' and clinicians' perspectives on enabling and accepting gait modifications in phase 1. 2. The feasibility study will explore how a small number of KOA patients tolerate gait modifications and consider the most relevant outcome measures, such as pain and function, in phase (2). 3. A small group of knee osteoarthritis patients and their physiotherapists who participated in phase (2) will be asked to participate in a descriptive survey in phase (3). To examine the acceptability and feasibility of the study intervention in phase (2).

Open and Closed Platform Robotic-assisted Versus Conventional Total Knee Arthroplasty

Start date: March 2024
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

REAL INTELLIGENCE™ CORI™ (CORI Surgical System) is a computer-assisted orthopedic surgical system. CORI Surgical System is designed to aid surgeons in planning and executing a procedure involving bone preparation for total knee arthroplasty (TKA) procedures. CORI Surgical System is comprised of a console control unit, optical tracking camera, primary and secondary input displays (tablet and optional display monitor), and foot pedal. The CORI Surgical System software consists of a patient and user management module, a surgical planner, and an intra-operative cutting module. Yuanhua Orthopaedic Robotic Systems, KUNWU, is an open-platform robotic system that does not restrict surgeons in choosing the type of prosthesis implant. It is the only Orthopaedic Robotic System in Hong Kong registered with the HK Department of Health Medical Devices Control Office (MDCO) as an open platform system. Unlike other manufacturer's implant-based robots (closed systems), Yuanhua's objective is to provide maximum flexibility in choosing the best implant for each patient. Closed system robots not only impact the surgeon's choice of implant for an individual patient but also affect the hospital's implant purchases over multiple years without any negotiation power on pricing. This business model is often referred to as a "razor and razor blade" model. The primary objective of this study is to evaluate the use of open and closed platform robotic-assisted TKA procedure in achieving post-operative leg alignment as compared to procedures using standard instruments. The secondary objective of this study is to assess the safety and performance of the robotic-assisted TKA procedure up to 12 months after surgery as compared to procedures using conventional manual instruments.

The Effect of Reflexology and Knee Massage With Black Cumin Oil on Pain and Fatigue

Start date: June 19, 2019
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

In this study, black cumin extract oil was used in elderly individuals with Knee Osteoarthritis (OA). The effects of foot reflexology and knee massage on pain and fatigue symptoms. It is aimed to examine and research which of these two applications is more effective. The study, planned as a randomized controlled experimental study, included a total of 150 participants. The data consists of participants who receive outpatient treatment in the Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Unit at a university hospital, are over 65 years old, and have no problems with their perception after the Mini Mental Test. After randomization, participants were divided into five groups, with 30 participants in each group. Groups; It consisted of 1) Reflexology with Black Cumin, 2) Placebo Reflexology, 3) Knee Massage with Black Cumin, 4) Placebo Knee Massage and 5) Control groups.

Improving Total Knee Arthroplasty Dissatisfaction Through a Personalized Approach Focusing on PROMs Phenotypes

Start date: March 12, 2024
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

This study is a randomized controlled trial to assess whether the implementation of a TKA Personalized Outcome Prediction Tool to set expectation, in addition to targeted interventions to address patients with poor baseline mental health and poor physical function, improves satisfaction at 1-year (when compared to standard of care).

NCT ID: NCT06290986 Recruiting - Clinical trials for Trapeziometacarpal Osteoarthritis

Pyrocardan® Implant Arthroplasty or LRTI for Trapeziometacarpal Osteoarthritis

Start date: September 26, 2022
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

This is a randomized controlled trial comparing the Pyrocardan® implant (intervention group) with the standard ligament reconstruction and tendon interposition (LRTI) (control group). All Danish citizens with osteoarthritis of the thumb carpometacarpal joint referred to the orthopedic department at Copenhagen University Hospital in Herlev/Gentofte will be considered for participation in the trial. The following exclude from participation in the study: Below 40 years of age; cognitive or linguistic impairment; osteoarthritis of other carpal bones; previous surgery in the carpometacarpal joint; patients with rheumatoid arthritis. A total of 64 patients will be included. The primary outcome is the patient reported outcomes questionnaire; Quick-DASH. The secondary outcomes are patient-reported outcomes, functional outcomes, radiographic outcomes, readmission, complications, revisions. The patients are examined before surgery and 3, 6, 12 and 24 months after the operation. The patients are also contacted after 5 and 10 years.

Pre-Operative Exercise Therapy and Patient Education Before Total Knee Replacement

PROTEKT
Start date: December 20, 2023
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

The goal of this multi-center randomized controlled trial is to investigate the effect of pre-operative exercise therapy and education for patients awaiting knee replacement surgery on subjective knee function, patient satisfaction and enablement compared to standard care. The main questions it aims to answer are: - Does pre-operative exercise therapy and education lead to better subjective knee function compared to standard care one year after surgery? - Does pre-operative exercise therapy and education lead to a higher level of patient satisfaction compared to standard care one year after surgery? - Does pre-operative exercise therapy and education lead to better patient enablement compared to standard care six weeks after surgery? - Does pre-operative exercise therapy and education lead to better objective knee function compared to standard care six weeks after surgery? Participants will be randomized stratified by age (≤ 67 years, > 67 years) to either pre-operative supervised individualized exercise therapy combined with education two sessions/week (intervention group) or to standard care (control group). The intervention will be continuously ongoing for at least eight weeks from the point of decision for surgery until as close to the surgery as possible.

Comparison of Two Robotic-Assisted Total Knee Arthroplasty Systems

Start date: May 2024
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

The goal of this prospective study is to compare two different knee replacement robots. This study will look at patient reported outcome measures and data collected during the operation. The main questions this study aims to answer include: - Will the patient reported outcomes differ between the two groups? - Will the intraoperative data differ between the two groups? Participants will undergo total knee replacement with one of the two robots, complete standardized surveys, and have x-rays taken.
