Filter by:Osteoarthritis is a chronic joint disease that lacks curative therapy. Epidemiological studies show increase in the burden of disease. Total joint arthroplasty is one of the best treatment options for end-stage osteoarthritis. However, the specific effects of total joint arthroplasty on cardiovascular risk and metabolic profile are largely unknown. The aim of this project is to elucidate how hip and knee total joint arthroplasty impacts cardiovascular risk and metabolomic profile in comparison with general population. We hypothesize that arthroplasty decreases pain, systemic inflammation levels and increases functional status that all lead to decreased metabolic and cardiovascular risk.

This study is being performed to assess the relative effectiveness of genicular nerve ablation with the COOLIEF* Cooled Radiofrequency probe to manage moderate to severe knee pain in patients with osteoarthritis (OA) of the knee when compared to radiofrequency ablation using a Standard Radiofrequency probe.

Knee osteoarthritis (KOA) is one of the most common and disabling conditions among Veterans. Management of KOA is challenging as there are few effective treatments other than joint replacement. Importantly, low levels of physical activity in patients with knee problems might worsen pain and disability. This study aims to determine the feasibility of using methods to change behavior that use social incentives and promote physical activity through playing games and interacting with a web-based platform. The study will also evaluate an important and widely used treatment, namely corticosteroid injections. Participants will be randomized into one of 4 arms and will receive a different combination of social incentives and injections. The study will evaluate which approach is most effective at promoting physical activity and reducing pain and disability.
This study is a multi-center, Phase 2, open-label, 1-period, parallel study with 9 cohorts of subjects with OA of the knee enrolled to receive single-dose of TLC599 or DSP via IA injection and 1 cohort of healthy subjects to receive single-dose of DSP via IV injection.

This is a prospective, randomized, multicenter comparison study examining the outcomes of subjects with osteoarthritis and knee pain undergoing a procedure to create a radiofrequency lesion of the genicular nerves with the Cooled Radiofrequency Ablation (CRFA) system compared to subjects receiving Hyaluronic Acid (HA). Approximately 168 subjects will be enrolled into this study, with subjects undergoing either CRFA or HA injection in a 1:1 randomization scheme. Follow-up will be conducted for 12 months post-CRFA, with the primary endpoint being completed at month 6. Subjects randomized to the comparison (HA) group will have the option to cross-over to the neurotomy group after completing the 6-month endpoint assessment. They will be followed for an additional 6 months. Pain, overall outcome, quality of life, pain medication use, and adverse events will be compared between the two treatment groups to determine success. Subjects who were randomized to and received COOLIEF* as their initial treatment will have the option to add 2 additional visits at 6-month intervals, representing 18 and 24 months post initial treatment.
