Influence of a Short Term Supplementation With Ubiquinol on Diverse Aspects Related to the Physical Activity

Start date: April 2013
Phase: Phase 2/Phase 3
Study type: Interventional

The General Aim of this study is to verify if a short term supplementation can modulate diverse aspects related to the physical regular high intensity activity. To get this general aim and following the criteria established by the EFSA Guides, this general aim will be divided in specific or concrete aims, and will be studied by its specific analytical. First Specific Aim: To study how the supplementation with 200 mg of ubiquinol in a short term (2 weeks) study can influence the physical performance, resitance , muscle function and weakening: maintenance of normal muscle function, maintenance of endurance performance, increase in endurance performance/capacity, reduction in the rated perceived exertion/effort during exercise, increase in physical performance and maintenance of muscle mass and piscological variables that the sportsman suffers before and after the high intensity exercise. Second Specific Aim: To study how the supplementation with 200 mg of ubiquinol in a short term (2 weeks) study can influence the biochemical and haematological parameters in sportsman. Third Specific Aim: To study how the supplementation with 200 mg of ubiquinol in a short term (2 weeks) study can influence the oxidative stress asociated to a high intensity exercise. Fourth Specific Aim: To study how the supplementation with 200 mg of ubiquinol in a short term (2 weeks) study can influence the inflammatory signaling, the activity of diverse pro - and anti-inflammatory citokines associated to high intensity exercise.

NCT ID: NCT01845558 Completed - Muscle Soreness Clinical Trials

Effects of Wobenzym® Plus in Healthy, Sportive People After Eccentric Exercise

2012-005003-40
Start date: February 2013
Phase: Phase 4
Study type: Interventional

The aim of the current study is to investigate the therapeutic effect and especially the mode of action of Wobenzym® plus, an anti-inflammatory drug containing proteolytic enzymes, on exercise induced muscle damage (eiMD) and recovery time in male amateur sportsmen with medium proficiency level compared to placebo.

NCT ID: NCT01751503 Terminated - Cerebral Palsy Clinical Trials

Extramembranous and Interosseous Technique of Tibialis Posterior Tendon Transfer

Start date: March 2013
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Foot drop deformity is a life limiting condition characterized by loss of ankle dorsiflexion and eversion. Main condition leading to drop foot condition include irrecoverable muscle and nerve injuries, poliomyelitis, drug poisoning, strokes, cerebral palsy, Charcot - Marie - Tooth disease, meningomyelocele, club foot, Friedreich's ataxia and Leprosy (1-4). Anterior transposition of Posterior tibialis tendon (PTT) is the gold standard for surgical restoration of functional dorsiflexion of a permanently paralyzed foot (1, 4-10). Two methods of rerouting the posterior tibialis tendon have been reported, one through the interosseous membrane i.e. Interosseous route (7, 10) and second subcutaneously around the medial side of tibia i.e. Extramembranous or circumtibial route (11-13). Both these techniques have been widely described in literature (4-16) and are being extensively used in surgical management of foot drop. The selection of technique depends on surgeon choice and patient factors. There is a clinical equipoise with regards to these two techniques of Tibialis posterior tendon transfer and through our study we aim to compare the clinical and functional outcomes of these two techniques. There are no studies in literature which compare the clinical and functional outcomes with regards to both these methods. Although there are many studies to demonstrate the functional and clinical effectiveness of the respective procedures, there is a paucity of clinical trials comparing these two surgical techniques with regards to clinical and functional outcomes. Furthermore there are no head to head clinical trials to compare the outcomes with regards to these two methods of Tibialis Posterior tendon transfer (Medline search dated 03/03/ 2012) we propose to compare the clinical and functional outcomes with regards to the two techniques i.e extra membranous and Interosseous technique of Tibialis Posterior tendon transfer performed in patients with foot drop as a result of nerve palsy. Through our prospective randomized trial we aim to answer the research question, whether one method has any superior outcome over the other?

NCT ID: NCT01525667 Completed - Clinical trials for Total Hip Arthroplasty

Safety and Efficacy of IM Injections of PLX-PAD for the Regeneration of Injured Gluteal Musculature After Total Hip Arthroplasty

Start date: November 2012
Phase: Phase 1/Phase 2
Study type: Interventional

Local administration of PLX-PAD single dose, intra-muscular injection for the regeneration of injured gluteal musculature after Total Hip Arthroplasty (THA).

NCT ID: NCT01497678 Withdrawn - Muscle Injury Clinical Trials

Musculotendinous Tissue Unit Repair and Reinforcement (MTURR) Coordinating Center

MTURR
Start date: March 2013
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

The objective of the study is to assess mechanical strength and function in subjects undergoing Musculotendinous Tissue Unit Repair and Reinforcement (MTURR) with the use of biologic scaffolds for the restoration of both mechanical strength and function in these subjects. This study will formally evaluate healing and return of function after an extracellular matrix device implantation in 40 male and female subjects participating at 4-5 military sites who suffer from injury with loss of skeletal muscle tissue. The University of Pittsburgh under the Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery is the Coordinating Center for this multi-site study.

NCT ID: NCT01292876 Completed - Muscle Injury Clinical Trials

Musculotendinous Tissue Repair Unit and Reinforcement (MTURR)

MTURR
Start date: December 2010
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

The objective of the study is to assess mechanical strength and function in subjects undergoing Musculotendinous Tissue Unit Repair and Reinforcement (MTURR) with the use of biologic scaffolds for the restoration of both mechanical strength and function in these subjects. This study formally evaluated healing and return of function after an extracellular matrix device implantation in 17 male and female subjects participating at the University of Pittsburgh under the Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery who suffer from injury with loss of skeletal muscle tissue.
