EMDR for Depressed People With Multiple Sclerosis

Several studies have reported high rates of depression in people with MS. Depressive symptoms represent a serious threat to quality of life and well-being. Furthermore, findings from the literature suggest that mechanisms underneath depressive features and loss of physical functions in MS could be related. The current study aims at investigating the feasibility of a fairly new type of psychotherapy known as "eye movement desensitization and reprocessing" (EMDR) on depression in people with MS. The goal of this intervention is to reduce the long-lasting effects of distressing memories by developing more adaptive coping mechanisms, through bilateral sensory stimulation. Together with the study on clinical measures, brain mechanisms of change will be assessed with MRI. Fifteen depressed or mildly depressed people with MS will be recruited. Participants will be assessed for depression, and quality of life, before and after the intervention. Participants will also undergo an MRI for brain structural and functional assessments before and after the EMDR intervention. The main aim of the study is to verify that EMDR is a feasible psychotherapeutic approach for people with depression and MS and to collect preliminary data on the efficacy of this type of intervention in reducing the depressive symptoms and improving the quality of life. The study, however, will not be limited to the analysis of outcome differences. The use of MRI assessments, in fact, will allow to explore possible brain change modifications related to depression reduction and/or symptoms modifications.

MS Relapses During COVID-19 Pandemic

Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, and to our knowledge there have been no studies looking systematically at the occurrence of MS relapses and their subsequent management, during the peak of the first wave of the pandemic. In this study we will explore how MS relapses were reported and managed during April - June 2020, compared to a control cohort who experienced a relapse during the same period in 2019 across 5 UK centers.

Imaging Evaluation of Central Nervous Autoimmune Diseases

Multiple sclerosis (MS) is the most common demyelinating disease of the central nervous system and the most common cause of non traumatic disability in young and middle-aged people. Neuromyelitis optica spectrum disease (nmosd) is an independent disease different from Ms. the pathogenesis and the mode of brain and spinal cord injury are different from MS, and the prognosis and optimal treatment are different. It is difficult to distinguish the two diseases in the early stage. Early diagnosis and treatment of the two diseases can greatly improve the quality of life of patients. Therefore, it is an urgent problem to clarify the difference between MS and nmosd injury patterns and to find sensitive imaging markers for early clinical intervention. With the continuous progress of computer aided diagnosis (CAD), it is more and more widely used in medicine, which is expected to help solve the above problems. The purpose of this study is to create a neuroimmune disease evaluation database based on image data. By combining brain and spinal cord imaging, and based on Zhang quantum space learning computer-aided technology, we can achieve accurate segmentation of MS and nmosd brain and spinal cord lesions, analyze the evolution characteristics of the disease at different time points, and screen the imaging indexes related to clinical scores combined with clinical and laboratory indexes Objective: to determine the different prognosis and its influencing factors at the clinical, imaging and molecular levels, and establish the model for predicting disease progression and prognosis, so as to provide the basis for early identification and assistance in guiding treatment and judging prognosis. Clinical information was collected: age, gender, course of disease, MMSE, EDSS disability score, nine hole test, 25 foot walking test. Assess the patient's information processing ability. Blood samples were collected. Imaging examination was performed. The patients were followed up regularly.

T Cell Profiling in Patients With Multiple Sclerosis

The goal of this research study is to to learn more about the body's immune response in patients with multiple sclerosis (MS). In MS, the body's immune cells mistakenly attack an important part of the nerves of the brain and spinal cord. The immune cells responsible for attacking the nerves in MS patients is primarily the T cells. A marker was recently discovered that might specifically identify these damaging T cells from all other T cells in the body. Understanding which T cells cause the damage in MS patients and understanding more about these specific T cells may help doctors better understand how MS occurs and could possibly prevent MS in the future.

Behavioral Intervention for Physical Activity and Sexual Dysfunction in Multiple Sclerosis

The prevalence of sexual dysfunction is higher among women with multiple sclerosis (MS) than women in the general population. The presence of sexual dysfunction is associated with decreased well-being and quality of life. There is limited research supporting pharmacological and other therapeutic approaches for managing sexual dysfunction in MS. Physical activity has beneficial effects on many of the consequences of MS, and physical activity represents a promising non-pharmacological approach for managing symptoms of sexual dysfunction in MS. The proposed research examines the effect of an Internet-delivered lifestyle physical activity intervention for improving sexual dysfunction in women with MS. The research proposed, if successful, will provide evidence for the efficacy of physical activity as a translatable approach for managing sexual dysfunction among women with MS.

The 3-Meter Backward Walk Test in Individuals With Multiple Sclerosis

The 3-m backward walk test (3MBWT) is used to evaluate neuromuscular control, proprioception, protective reflexes, fall risk and balance. The aim of our study was to reveal the test-retest reliability and validity of the 3MBWT in Multiple Sclerosis patients. Our study will be done as a "test-retest" design and psychometric properties of 3 m backward walking test in MS patients will be examined. Mini Mental State Examination, 3 m walk back test, Berg Balance Scale, Timed Up and Go, Timed 25 Step Walking Test and 4-Square Step Test will be applied to the patients. All evaluations will be made by the same physiotherapist. The second and third evaluation (retest) will be performed by the same physiotherapist two days after the first evaluation (test) and 2 weeks later to measure test-retest reliability. It will be preferable to collect data with the same evaluator to avoid inter-rater error rate between evaluations. The sample size, according to Lexell and Downham (2005), 40-50 participants should be included in reliability studies. Considering this recommendation, which defines the reliability of 3MBWT, it is planned to include 50 individuals with MS in our study.

Observational prospective , multi-center study Primary objective : To gain further homogenous evidence for clinical efficacy of aHSCT in patients undergoing aHSCT for MS as primary indication. Secondary objectives: - Safety, tolerability and toxicity of aHSCT in MS - Quality of life and long-term disability after aHSCT - MRI outcome after aHSCT Primary endpoint : Time to failure to maintain a NEDA status Secondary endpoints: - Overall survival - Transplant related mortality - MRI Assessment including lesions - Treatment-related complications . • Quality of life through the MS QL 54 standard assessment - Improvement of disability Inclusion criteria: - Diagnosis of MS according to the 2010 revision McDonald's criteria - Availability of a detailed clinical history about MS, including progression of disability and relapse rate in the previous 2 years, previous treatments administered - Patients aged 18yrs or over at the time of the first aHSCT Exclusion criteria: - Lack of one of the above criteria - Physical, mental, or social condition which could affect the patient from returning for follow-up visits - Patients with cognitive impairments, who are unable to provide written, informed consent prior to any testing under this protocol, including screening and baseline investigations that are considered part of routine patient care. Testosterone Treatment for Erectile Dysfunction and Multiple Sclerosis

The purpose of the study is to determine the effects of testosterone treatment on erectile function, fatigue, depression, cognitive function, quality of life, urinary incontinence, pain, and damage to neurons in male Multiple Sclerosis patients with low testosterone, using questionnaires, blood samples and a rectal exam in volunteers 55 years and older.
