Filter by:As a single center, retrospective observation study in Guangdong Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases, this study included the main study population of patients who underwent coronary angiography and / or coronary intervention from January 2007 to Decemeber 2018. The hospitalization information was collected in the form of direct derivation of the case, and cardiac and renal adverse events were collected through outpatient recorder system. All-cause death information was obtained from the Public Security and matched to the electronic Clinical Management System of the Guangdong Provincial People's Hospital records.
Cardio-oncology is an emerging field. Most of the data available have been issued from either retrospective analysis, industry data or pharmacovigilance data. These data sources include a number of bias. CONFUCIUS is a single tertiary centre prospective registry including all patients who have been referred for cardio-oncology assessemnt. The objectives are to provide a comprehensive vue of cardoi-oncology, enable to detect early signals of cardiotoxicity and enhance ancillary projetcts aiming at specific populations (e.g., type of cancer) and/or drugs.
The purpose of this study is to investigate the feasibility of conducting a multicomponent lifestyle intervention research study within the UAB Family Medicine Clinic at Highlands and to obtain preliminary data on the effectiveness of the adaptive treatment strategies being investigated to produce improvements in insulin resistance. This study is a Sequential Multiple Assignment Randomized Trial (SMART) with initial randomization groups of individualized nutrition counseling vs. individualized exercise counseling. Note that these initial nutrition or exercise interventions are NOT intended to produce significant weight loss. Participants that do not sufficiently improve their insulin resistance score after 8 weeks will be re-randomized to 2nd stage interventions of either receiving dietary counseling for weight loss or receiving a prescription for metformin. We will collect data on the effectiveness of the intervention to improve insulin resistance/metabolic health in the family medicine clinic as well as potential predictors or moderators of treatment success.
Metabolic Syndrome (MetS) is a complex epidemic disorder with an impact on both lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) and erectile dysfunction (ED). Combination therapy of daily tadalafil and tamsulosin may provide relief to both diseases. Aim of the present study is to assess the impact of combination therapy of Tadalafil 5mg plus Tamsulosin 0.4mg on LUTS and ED, according to presence vs. absence of Mets.

Considering the recent advancements in genetic analysis, wearable devices, and big data analysis techniques, collecting and analyzing personal genetic information, lifelogs, and environmental data and predicting the exact health risks of individuals could be possible.
The main aim of the study is to set up an observational cohort with NAFLD (Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease) at different stage of disease (from simple steatosis to cirrhosis and/or HCC-Hepatocellular carcinoma) and for comparative purpose a cohort of subjects with diabetes and/or obesity and/or other risk factors (i.e. psoriasis, IBD (inflammatory bowel disease), dyslipidemia) without NAFLD in order to have a clinical phenotypical characterization and the collection of biological specimens. We will collect clinical data, biological samples and imaging results in order to perform future cross-sectional studies and/or longitudinal studies for elucidating pathways of the disease and develop and validate biomarkers for diagnosis, prognosis and monitoring liver disease and comorbidities in order to contribute to precision medicine in this field.
Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is increasing in the population, and is associated with heart disease and diabetes. At present there are no licensed drugs for treatment of NAFLD, therefore changes in diet and increased physical activity leading to decreased body fatness is the recommended management/treatment strategy. However, these are difficult to achieve and maintain for many individuals. A potential compound gaining interest in regards the treatment/prevention of NAFLD is sulforaphane, which is found in vegetables such as Broccoli. Animal studies suggest supplementing with sulforaphane can increase fat oxidation. This increased "fat burning" may result in lower levels of fat in the liver and overall in the body. The researchers will ask participants to undertake an intervention phase which will involve consuming two sulforaphane tablets a day for approximately 3 weeks. Participants will be asked to maintain all other aspects of their lifestyle throughout the intervention phase. The researchers will measure and compare participants whole-body and liver fat oxidation in response to a standardised test meal before and after the intervention phase by taking blood and breath samples. The researchers will also measure the amount of fat in participants liver and heart using a non-invasive technique known as magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS) before and after the intervention.

Dietary interventions involving extra virgin olive oil (EVOO) supplementation and tree nut consumption can improve cardiometabolic health and reverse metabolic syndrome. The goal of this exploratory study is to establish the feasibility of using a novel measure - epigenetic age - to motivate behavior change and improve cardiometabolic health in individuals with metabolic syndrome.
