The objective of this study is to analyze the effects of executive functions (EFs) and social-cognitive abilities on the associations between autistic traits and mental health indicators (depression, anxiety, and stress). Moreover, the study will produce online training modules for executive functions and social cognition, aimed at reducing the likelihood of adverse mental health outcomes in individuals with and without elevated autistic traits. Therefore, four main hypotheses will be addressed: 1. Revealing the mediating role of executive functions (cognitive flexibility, inhibitory control, and working memory) will help predict the association between autistic traits and mental health symptoms (anxiety, depression, and stress). 2. Revealing the mediating role of social cognitive skills (cognitive empathy and affective empathy) will help predict the association between autistic traits and mental health symptoms (anxiety, depression, and stress). 3. Online training in executive functions and social cognitive skills will help develop executive functions (working memory, inhibitory control, and cognitive flexibility) and social cognitive skills (cognitive empathy and affective empathy) in the current sample. 4. Online training in executive functions and social cognitive skills will promote mental health by reducing distress, depression, and anxiety symptoms in the current sample. Participants will be between the ages of 18-35 because previous findings indicate that the age of onset of various mental health problems is between the ages of 17 and 35. Participants will be randomly assigned to the experimental and control groups. Using a longitudinal design including pre-test, post-test, and follow-up conditions to test the effectiveness of combined EFs and social cognition online training for mental health symptoms.
Community mental health centers (CMHCs) face significant challenges in meeting the needs of individuals with mental health issues. For example, due to high demand, there are long waiting lists and low engagement rates. Innovative interventions are urgently needed to address these challenges to improve patient engagement, coping skills, and overall health outcomes. Educational and self-management interventions have shown promise in enhancing patient activation and treatment satisfaction in other contexts. They may therefore be potential solutions to reduce the identified challenges in the mental health service. To bridge these knowledge and practice gaps, this study aims to evaluate a digital pre-therapy patient education program tailored specifically for adults with mental disorders. This intervention aims to enhance treatment satisfaction, patient activation, knowledge, patient engagement, and overall mental health outcomes.
The project aims to investigate the feasibility and acceptability of a blended face-to-face and smartphone intervention for distressing thoughts and experiences in people with schizophrenia spectrum disorders. A secondary aim is to assess the outcomes of the intervention at baseline (T0) and post-intervention (T1) (single-arm feasibility design). The study design is primarily based on Bell et al.'s (2018, 2020) blended face-to-face and smartphone intervention for hallucinations. The participants receive four face-to-face therapy sessions, using a smartphone between sessions employing elements of Ecological Momentary Assessment (EMA) and Intervention (EMI).
This study aims to evaluate the THRIVE clinical pathway at HUP-Cedar, focusing on supporting Medicaid-insured individuals, including those with serious mental illness, following hospitalization. The study will assess clinician/administrator perspectives on the pathway's feasibility, appropriateness, and acceptability and analyze referral patterns and post-discharge outcomes. The objectives are: 1. To conduct a qualitative study evaluating the implementation of THRIVE, particularly its adaptation to include patients with serious mental illness. 2. To examine referral patterns, 30-day readmission rates, and ED utilization for THRIVE participants, comparing them with those receiving standard care. Participants will be referred to home care services during hospitalization and seen by a home care nurse within 48 hours post-discharge. A discharging physician or Advanced Practice Provider will oversee care for 30 days or until a primary care or specialist visit. The Care Coordination Team will hold weekly case conferences for 30 days post-discharge to address both health and mental health needs. The study will compare outcomes of Medicaid-insured patients, including those with serious mental illness, to those receiving usual care.
This cluster randomized trial develops and pilot tests a multi-level substance use stigma intervention that leverages organizational policy and professional education to address structural and professional drivers of stigma in outpatient mental health (MH) services. The investigators will generate preliminary data to determine whether adding an organizational policy to a professional stigma training may reduce measures of provider-based stigma towards substance use and improve care quality and patient outcomes to a greater degree than simply conducting training alone. The investigators hypothesize that providers at a MH site implementing an organizational policy change in addition to providing professional training will demonstrate greater improvement to health services for people who use drugs compared to a site where providers receive training alone.
The goal of this clinical trial is to compare the effect of nutritional counseling versus no treatment in patients with schizophenia or bipolar affective disorder. The main question it aims to answer are: • Can nutritional counseling have a preventive effect on the development of cardiovascular disease in patients with schizophenia or bipolar affective disorder? Participants will meet a nutritionist at baseline to asess nutritional status, biochemical and anthropometric measurements. Then, half of the study population will receive nutritional counseling. After six weeks, the same baseline measurements will be repeated to examine any potential differences between the two groups. After the intervention, the control group will be offered the same counseling as the intervention group received during the study.

The purpose of this study is to see how feasible is the use of compact EEG and paired audio technology to administer sleep interventions for inpatients with psychosis, to see if individuals that receive individualized technology-based sleep interventions experience improvements in sleep quality and to see if individuals that receive individualized technology-based sleep interventions experience improvements in symptomatology
The goal of this clinical trial is to investigate the feasibility if a remotely administered smartphone app can increase the volume and intensity of physical activity in daily life in patients with isolated Rapid Eye Movement (REM) sleep behaviour disorder over a long period of time (24 months). Participants will be tasked to achieve an incremental increase of daily steps (volume) and amount of minutes exercised at a certain heart rate (intensity) with respect to their own baseline level. Motivation with regards to physical activity will entirely be communicated through the study specific Slow Speed smartphone app. Primary outcomes will be compliance expressed as longitudinal change in digital measures of physical activity (step count) measured using a Fitbit smartwatch. Exploratory outcomes entail retention rate, completeness of remote digital biomarker assessments, digital prodromal motor and non-motor features of PD, blood biomarkers and brain imaging markers. Using these biomarkers, we aim to develop a composite score (prodromal load score) to estimate the total prodromal load. An international exercise study with fellow researchers in the United States and United Kingdom are currently in preparation (Slow-SPEED). Our intention is to analyse overlapping outcomes combined where possible through a meta-analysis plan, to obtain insight on (determinants of) heterogeneity in compliance and possible efficacy across subgroups
