Filter by:Purpose: This project aimed to examine the effects of laughter yoga, which is accepted as an international nursing initiative, on loneliness, anger and salivary cortisol levels in visually impaired individuals. When the national and international literature was examined, no project was found that measured the results of laughter yoga as an intervention for visually impaired individuals. For this reason, planning an original project in this field aims to contribute to the literature. Thanks to the evidence obtained, laughter yoga, an innovative approach, can be disseminated in institutions and organizations serving visually impaired individuals as an evidence-based practice that can improve the social skills of individuals. Scope and Target Audience: The project will be carried out with visually impaired individuals receiving services in the Disabled Persons Department within the Atatürk Provincial Public Library located in Konak district of Izmir. In this section, services are provided to 250 members who actively use the library and to visually impaired people from all over Turkey. Method and Expected Result: The project was planned in a randomized controlled, pre-test post-test, single-blind follow-up consultancy design. With this initiative, a social rehabilitation environment will be provided for visually impaired individuals by taking an approach based on respect, understanding and awareness. Laughter yoga is expected to reduce the level of anger and loneliness in visually impaired individuals. At the same time, laughter yoga is expected to reduce cortisol levels, which are known to increase when faced with stress factors, and increase serotonin, which is associated with happiness and vitality, and endorphine, known as the body's natural painkiller. With laughter yoga sessions, a social environment will be created where visually impaired individuals will have an active and independent experience. Thanks to the expected evidence, laughter yoga can be popularized both in visually impaired individuals and in individuals with other disabilities. Within the scope of protecting and improving health, laughter yoga can be planned to be carried out as a routine nursing practice in disabled centers. Thus, by creating an environment where visually impaired individuals and nurses come together, a more accessible health service will be provided to individuals with special needs.
Creating a map of the magnitude of the problem and the response of primary care to unwanted loneliness among the elderly, stratifying different needs based on place of residence and proximity to available assistance programs to address this issue, which, due to its scale, calls for collaboration among various institutions, disciplines, and experiences.
Older people in long-term care (LTC) are often less physically active than their community-dwelling peers. Low physical activity level is associated with more symptoms of anxiety and depression as well as with lower physical performance. This weakens coping with daily activities and increases the care costs. Earlier research have found that playing digital games that require physical activity affects positively functioning of older people. Playing can increase physical activity, improve balance and walking speed, lift the mood and create opportunities for social interaction. The effects of digital gaming, especially on objectively measured physical activity and social functioning, are still unclear. The aim of this study is to evaluate effectiveness of digital gaming intervention with Yetitablet to physical, psychological and social functioning and activity of older people in long-term care environment. This study investigates the effectiveness of the Yetitablet in improving the functioning of older people. Yetitablet is an assistive technology device developed for special groups. Yetitablet is a large interactive touchscreen tablet with 55" screen and with Android operating system and it includes numerous applications. Yetitablet has mobile stand on wheels, which allows the screen to be raised and lowered, as well as tilted as needed, all the way to a desk position. Applications can be downloaded to the device from the Google Play Store, and it also has its own game applications, such as darts, table hockey and memory game. These games can be played individually or in group. There is no previous scientific research on the effectiveness of the Yetitablet on the functioning and activity of older people in long-term care settings.
The goal of this study is to test a pilot intervention aimed at improving social connectedness among women affected by gender-based violence in a resource-restricted, urban context. The intervention will specifically address barriers to building and sustaining supportive social networks to reduce women's risks for worsening mental health associated with isolation, with a focus on barriers stemming from gender-based violence and poverty. The main question it aims to answer are: - How acceptable is the intervention to women affected by gender-based violence including the benefits, burdens and appropriateness in the context of their everyday lives? - How feasible is the intervention and study protocol? - What are the effects of a peer-led social engagement intervention to develop and sustain supportive social networks and reduce isolation among women affected by gender-based violence? Participants will engage in social activities with trained peer workers over a one-year period.
The central goal of this project is to produce a novel, precise, and comprehensive account of social factors in young adult mental health - using a novel combination of network nominations, ecological momentary assessment, and neuroimaging methods. To that end, the investigators will collect data from two successive classes of college undergraduates (i.e., classes of 2023 and 2024) over the course of their collegiate tenure.
The purpose of this study is to evaluate the clinical potential of oxytocin (OT) as an adjunct to a cognitive-behavioral group-based shortterm intervention for participants suffering from loneliness.
