Effect of a Customised Lifestyle Medicine Strategy on Lowering Blood Lipid Levels in Indian Physicians

Lifestyle medicine is a medical specialty that uses evidence-based therapeutic interventions to prevent, treat, and reverse chronic conditions. Studies have shown that a 50 mg/dl reduction in LDL reduces the risk of developing stroke by 20%, and a 10 mm Hg reduction in systolic BP reduces the risk of developing MACE by 22% and stroke by 41%. The CLIP (Cholesterol Lowering Lifestyle Intervention Project) is an innovative initiative proposed to evaluate the combined effect of an Indian version of Portfolio diet-based nutrition strategy, intermittent fasting, exercise, sleep, and stress reduction techniques on lowering blood lipid levels in health professionals and their family. The study aims to evaluate the effect of CLIP on changes in blood pressure, weight, HbA1C levels, blood CRP levels, and other blood parameters.

Evaluating the Impact of Omega-3 Fatty Acid Supplementation (Soloways™) on Lipid Profiles in Adults With PPARG Polymorphisms

In this study, 102 patients will be evenly randomized into two groups: one set to receive omega-3 fatty acids and the other a placebo. The process will be blinded, ensuring that neither the researchers nor the participants will know which group they are in. Each participant will take two capsules daily for a duration of 90 days, with the active group receiving capsules containing 1000 mg of fish oil each. All participants will be instructed to maintain their usual diet, lifestyle, and medication regimen. At the beginning and end of the study, various health assessments, including lipid panels and C-reactive protein measurements, will be conducted. Additionally, DNA samples will be collected for genotyping to identify patients with specific PPARG gene polymorphisms, leading to the creation of four distinct subgroups: those receiving omega-3 with and without polymorphisms, and those receiving placebo with and without polymorphisms.

The investigators followed a convenience sample of 114 overweight and obese subjects from a weight loss clinic who followed a 24-week dietary intervention. The subjects self-selected whether to follow a standardized ketogenic diet (n=53), or a personalised low-glycemic index (GI) diet utilising information from 28 single nucleotide polymorphisms (n=61). After the 24-week study period, the subjects were monitored for an additional 18 months.

Molval Fort is a natural product available in the Lebanese market with a combination of red yeast rice extracts, EPA/DHA and coenzyme Q10. The investigators are conducting this study to explore the effect of red yest rice extracts based product on LDL and its side effects in a sample of primary care Lebanese patients.
