Filter by:This study will assess the safety, efficacy and effect on quality of life of switching kidney transplant patients from reduced dose EC-MPS treatment due to gastrointestinal problems to a higher than the equimolar dose of CellCept. Patients will be switched, initially, from EC-MPS (<1440g/day) to an equimolar dose of CellCept, and at the next visit (day 10 +/- 5) the CellCept dose will be increased by 250mg/day, and the daily dose will be split into 3-4 doses. The anticipated time on study treatment is <3 months, and the target sample size is <100 individuals.
A study to evaluate the safety and efficacy of Prograf/FK778 in de novo kidney transplant patients
This is a multi-center, open label, randomized, 3-way cross-over study. 21 subjects will be randomized to receive all three treatments in one of three treatment sequences. Patients at risk of CMV disease (D+R-, D+R+, D-R+), who are being treated prophylactically with Valcyte® (commercially available tablets), after their first or second kidney transplant and who have adequate renal and hematological function will be eligible for the study. Screening may be at any time after transplantation provided that follow-up procedures can be completed during the scheduled time of prophylaxis. The first dose of study drug may be between 1 and 14 days after screening provided the transplant has stabilized, stable serum creatinine and steady-state kinetics of ganciclovir and calcineurin inhibitor therapy have been attained. Follow-up will take place 7- 14 days after last dose of study drug administration; therefore the duration of the study will be up to 5 weeks.
The aim of this trial is to compare the safety and efficacy of a single dose of Thymoglobulin, rabbit derived antithymocyte globulin (Thymoglobulin, SangStat, Fremont, CA) to our standard four dose, four day Thymoglobulin induction regimen from the time of transplantation through a six month follow-up period. The primary endpoint will be the incidence of acute rejection. Secondary endpoints will include serious adverse events, evaluation of renal function, patient and graft survival, incidence of infectious complications, incidence of post-transplantation lymphoproliferative disorder (PTLD), duration and extent of lymphocyte depletion and immunoassays for evidence of recipient immune response to the allograft as well as duration of hospital stay.
This research is being done to study the effects (good and bad) of taking CellCept based on blood concentrations versus taking a fixed dose of CellCept without measuring the blood concentration. CellCept is one of the three immunosuppressant drugs (drugs that suppress the immune system) which will be taken as part of this kidney transplant study. Cyclosporine or tacrolimus and corticosteroids are the two other drugs which will be taken.

The purpose of this study is to compare the safety and efficacy of a tacrolimus-based 5-day steroid rapid withdrawal immunoprophylactic regimen in de novo renal transplantation.
The purpose of this study is to compare treatment with the new drug sirolimus (SRL) versus the standard treatment with cyclosporine (CsA) or tacrolimus in children who have received kidney transplants. SRL is a new medication that may prevent the body's immune system from rejecting organ transplants. After receiving a kidney transplant, the body recognizes the donated kidney as a foreign invader and triggers the immune system to attack the kidney. This can lead to rejection of the new kidney and a failed transplant. To help reduce the risk of kidney rejection, transplant patients are given immunosuppressant drugs, which reduce the body's normal immune response and allow the transplanted organ to function. CsA or tacrolimus are two drugs that are often given to transplant patients. However, these are powerful drugs, and it can cause serious side effects and put a patient at increased risk for infections. SRL is a new drug that has been shown to reduce a transplant patient's chance of rejecting a new kidney, without serious side effects. This study is necessary to test the safety and effectiveness of SRL in children.
The purpose of this study is to find out whether Varivax is safe for use in children with kidney transplants and whether it protects children from serious infection. Varivax is a vaccine against varicella zoster virus (VZV), the virus that causes chickenpox (varicella) and shingles (zoster). Healthy children are already receiving Varivax shots to protect them from chickenpox. Few children with kidney transplants have received Varivax because doctors have been concerned that Varivax might cause serious reactions in them. On the other hand, VZV infection can be a life-threatening disease in these children. For this reason, doctors ultimately want to learn whether Varivax might safely prevent VZV infections in children who have had kidney transplants.
