Filter by:People with inflammatory diseases treated with immune-suppressing medication are recommended to have regular blood-tests to monitor for potential side-effects of this treatment on their blood count, liver and kidneys. However, it is not clear that monitoring is needed as frequently as currently recommended in the long-term, with side-effects being rare after one year of treatment. A study is currently underway to determine the optimal blood-test monitoring strategy which is cost-effective but still safe. Any changes in the monitoring strategy must be acceptable to patients and the healthcare professionals (HCP) that treat them. This study aims to measure how often patients' with common inflammatory conditions on long-term immune suppressing medication attend their monitoring blood tests as currently recommended, and uncover patients' and HCP views and experiences of the current blood-test monitoring strategy, and the acceptability of potential changes to this in the future. Firstly, patients with an inflammatory condition on long-term immune suppressing treatment will be invited to complete a questionnaire which will ask about their demographic information, medical condition(s), immune-suppressing treatment, adherence to the monitoring blood tests and willingness to take part in an interview. Then, both patients and HCPs who care for such patients will be invited to take part in a single, semi-structured interview. Interviews will be face-to-face, by telephone or video-call, last up to one hour and digitally audio-recorded. Patient interviews will explore their perceptions of risk, benefits and experiences of current testing, and views on the new testing frequencies emerging from the study prior. HCP interviews will explore their perceptions of current testing including, the practicalities, usefulness, risks and benefits of the blood tests, and views on the new testing frequencies emerging from the study prior. The findings will shape the recommendations for a new monitoring strategy, ensuring it is acceptable to patients and HCPs.

The project proposes to evaluate a strategy for prioritizing teleconsultation for patients with chronic inflammatory rheumatic diseases during the COVID-19 pandemia. This selection will be done through telephone contact by medical students, supervised by residents and rheumatologists on a patient database. The other objectives are to assess the impact of the pandemia on the physical and mental health of patients classified as being at risk
Participants who choose to participate in this study, will either have their tendon repaired to tendon, so-called tenotomy repair, or tendon repaired to bone, so-called peel repair.

This is a multi-center, prospective, non-controlled post market surveillance study. The objectives of this study are to obtain survival and outcome data on the Allofit IT Shell in combination with the BIOLOX® delta Taper Liner when used in primary total hip arthroplasty.
Surgery is a common treatment type for damaged joints, tendons and nerves in the upper limb where conservative measures are inappropriate or have failed. These conditions are common and result in significant levels of pain and functional disability. The investigators are conducting a broad ranging study of variation in the provision of surgical treatment and factors affecting outcomes after surgical treatment of upper limb conditions. This will be a population-based study of all patients undergoing surgical treatment funded by the National Health Service (NHS) of England over a nineteen-year period. This study will help to understand the factors associated with a poor outcome following surgery, which can be shared with patients considering treatment options. The investigators will also document current and future health service burden associated with commonly performed surgical procedures including complications and repeat operations.

Regular physical activity is important for people with rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Sleep requirements for adults should be on a 'sleep needs spectrum' of between 7 to 9 hours per day. Poor sleep is a common complaint among people with RA, which may have an effect on their activity levels and well-being. There is evidence that physical activity and exercise can improve sleep quality and disturbances in other chronic disease populations therefore, examining how same affects sleep in RA is important.
