Keeping Stable Inflammatory Arthritis Patients in Their Communities With the Advanced Clinician Practitioner in Arthritis Care

ACPAC
Start date: September 5, 2019
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

In Ontario, rheumatology services are in short supply. Many people with inflammatory arthritis (IA) are traveling long distances for care and face geographical/ financial challenges in so doing. Travel burden may be decreased and satisfaction with care improved by integrating existing health care resources. A few rheumatologists in Ontario have adopted a video conferencing (VC) model for follow-up of stable IA patients using the Ontario Telemedicine Network (OTN) with Extended Role Practitioners (ERPs) doing on-site assessments. Anecdotal evidence suggests this model benefits both patient and rheumatologist. We will determine how people with stable well-controlled IA, living more than 100 km round-trip from the rheumatology clinic, perceive quality of life before, during and after VC with ERP follow-up visits compared to usual care. Disease activity, functional status, medication adherence, patient satisfaction, and barriers to care will also be measured.

NCT ID: NCT04015960 Not yet recruiting - Clinical trials for Inflammatory Arthritis

Inflammatory Arthritis and Difficulty at Work

RENOIR
Start date: July 15, 2019
Phase:
Study type: Observational

Despite biologic drugs and improvements of inflammatory arthritis (IA) treatment, many patients with inflammatory arthritis still face increased absenteeism, reduced at-work productivity and report difficulties working and having to give up their jobs. Such professional limitation generates psychological stress and it felt generally as a premature social ageing. "Making-it-Work" is an intervention developed in English speaking Canada, which aims at enabling both patients and employers to intervene early during the course of inflammatory arthritis to reduce possible problems at work, and to prevent sick leave and future work disability in the long term and improve well-being at work. As part of the EVADE (Evaluation of the effectiVeness of an ADaptation of the Making it-Work intervention in a French Environment) project which aims at evaluating the effectiveness of an adaptation of the "Making-it-Work" intervention, to the French environment, the investigators propose : 1. to identify the problems faced at work due to IA, patients needs, motivations to continue working and strategies helpful for maintaining employment. 2. to develop a questionnaire to assess difficulties at work, needs for adaptations and support and motivations to work of patients with inflammatory arthritis.

Electronic and Lab Pre-screening of New Rheumatology Patients With Rheumatoid Arthritis

Start date: February 28, 2019
Phase:
Study type: Observational

By forming the foundation of a delivery system that integrates primary care (PC) and rheumatology, this initiative strives to strengthen the roles of both primary care and rheumatology practices as they co-manage patients in a quality care delivery system. Importantly, it strives to fill an unmet need, the rapid evaluation by Primary Care providers; the appropriate and timely referral of inflammatory disease patients to a rheumatologist; and the implementation of early aggressive therapy in the management of patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) with tight control. Given the call for improved quality, value, and demonstration of results[1], this initiative uses the tenets of National Center for Quality Assurance's Patient Centered Specialty Program[1] (PCSP) and it successfully masters and streamlines coordination of care.
