This study aims to explore the clinical value of mNGS in the rapid diagnosis of postoperative abdominal infection, to refine the pathogenic bacteria spectrum, and to establish a novel procedure for postoperative abdominal infection diagnosis.

Multi-center Study to Assess Safety, Tolerability and Efficacy of Topical Pravibismane in Moderate DFI Patients

This is a randomized, open label, controlled, multi-center study to assess safety, tolerability, and efficacy of adjunctive treatment with topically applied pravibismane (MBN-101) in patients with moderate diabetic foot infections. Patients will be randomized in a 2:1 ratio (MBN-101:standard of care). Topical pravibismane (MBN-101) will be applied three times per week for up to 12 weeks. All patients will receive systemic antibiotic treatment for a least a portion of that period. Randomization will be stratified by site.

Frequent Standardized Oral Care to Improve Health Outcomes in Premature Infants in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit

Premature very low birth weight (VLBW) infants are susceptible to complications related to infrequent and non-standardized oral care. Although the benefits of frequent standardized oral care are known to reduce oral dybiosis (increased level of potentially pathogenic bacteria) and its associated complications in critically ill adults leading to established evidence-based guidelines, no such information exists for VLBW infants. The proposed study will prospectively follow 40 VLBW infants for 4 weeks following birth. Infants will be randomized into 1 of 2 groups. Standardized oral care will be performed every 3-4 hours (Group 1) and every 12 hours (Group 2). Aim 1 will evaluate the feasibility of frequent standardized oral care, Aim 2 will compare the oral microbiome between groups, and Aim 3 will compare respiratory outcomes including the incidence of ventilator associated pneumonia, bronchopulmonary dysplasia and need for respiratory support between infants receiving standardized oral care every 3-4 hours and every 12 hours. Issues related to recruitment, retention, randomization, acceptance by nursing staff, and treatment fidelity will be examined. Saliva samples will be obtained weekly and analyzed using 16S sequencing, respiratory cultures will be obtained weekly on ventilated infants, and respiratory outcomes will be collected from the medical records.

Now, this pandemic is rapidly spreading all over the world. Pregnant have higher rates of COVID-19, associated with hospitalizations, and severe in-hospital outcomes. Immune responses may have a potential role in the diagnosis, treatment, and prognosis of patients with COVID-19. So we need of identifying biomarkers for disease severity and progression.

Lower limb joint replacement surgery is one of the most prevalent globally. In our center, more than 400 lower limb arthroplasties (LLA) are performed annually. Developing a Surgical Site Infection (SSI) after (LLA) increases morbidity, mortality and healthcare costs. Staphylococcus aureus is the main causative agent of SSI and especially in LLA. One third of the population is a nasal carrier of Staphylococcus aureus, being a risk factor for patients who have to undergo knee replacement or hip replacement. Several studies have confirmed that the detection of S. aureus carriers and their subsequent decolonization reduces SSI rates

The LATA trial will find out if taking a long-acting injectable form of HIV medicines, called cabotegravir and rilpivirine, every 2 month works as well as taking tablet HIV medicines every day in young people aged 12-19 years of age. The trial is organised by an international group of researchers from Europe and Africa, and will include 460 young people, from Kenya, South Africa, Uganda and Zimbabwe.
