Clinical Application and Functionality for an Application for Measurement of Head Circumference.

Title of clinical study:Clinical application, validation, and functionality evaluation of the Mobile Head Circumference Application in neonates and children Sponsor: University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust Purpose of study:Evaluate and validate the utility of the mobile Head Circumference application for use in the clinical and outpatient setting for evaluation of head circumference of neonates and infants Primary objectives:Evaluate usefulness of and feasibility of the application in the clinical setting comparing it to normal practice. Secondary objectives:Evaluate parent/guardian reliability and satisfaction of the use of the mobile head circumference app. Study Design:Prospective Sample Size:Treating clinicians employed by Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust will identify patients eligible for this study (infants <18 months of age) and notify research team members with the patient's/guardian's consent. Once identified, research team members will approach patients' parents/guardians to seek informed consent before their clinic appointment or at the bedside on the ward. An information sheet will be used. If they choose to participate, we will measure the HC during the clinic appointment or on the ward. (Please refer to Flowchart 1). Sample size estimation was calculated with 90% statistical power to detect a change of means by 1 and a standard deviation of 1. This, along with 10% iteration, equals 33 participants. Summary of eligibility criteria:Neonatal patients and infants with need of continuous measurement of Head Circumference up to the age of 18months. Investigational techniques:Mobile application for Automatic measurement of head circumference.

Impact of a Standing Program in a Child With Spina Bifida: A Case Report

The purpose of this case study is to investigate a child with MMC who has significant knee and hip flexion contractures to answer the following research questions: 1) Is a home standing program effective in reducing hip and knee flexion contractures in a child with MMC? 2) Does a home standing program result in a change in the quality of functional movement? A Physical therapist, PT, will administer the Peds NRS and goniometric measurements prior to the start of the study and at the end of the study. The PT will also provide the parent instruction on the standing home program with weekly check-ins to ensure the parent and child are able to follow the home program. The home standing program will last 8 weeks. The parent will keep a written log of stander use. The Peds NRS scores and goniometric measurements will be compared pre and post intervention. The expected outcome is that the Peds NRS scores and hip and knee extension range of motion measurements will improve.

Ventriculomegaly and Gait Disturbance in the Senior Population in the Region of Västerbotten

Idiopathic normal pressure hydrocephalus (INPH) is a treatable disease of the elderly, typically causing gait impariment, dementia and urinary incontinence. The objective of this study is to make an epidemiological survey of INPH in Umeå, Sweden. Subjects with self-perceived gait impairments will be identified through a questionnaire. They will go through clinical examinations and have an MRI of the brain. A control population will also be investigated to enable comparisons between the populations. The main hypothesis is that the prevalence of INPH in the population is higher than what is previoulsy known.

Brain Aneurysms: Utility of Cisternal Urokinase Irrigation

Despite the efforts made in its treatment, aneurysmal subarachnoid haemorrhage continues to induce high mortality and morbidity rates. Today there are treatment protocols in all hospitals. The vast majority prefer, whenever possible, the endovascular route, given its lesser aggressiveness and morbidity. Although embolization prevents aneurysm' rebleeding, it does remove the subarachnoid blood clot. Therefore, it does not modify the evolution, incidence and severity of vasospasm. The idea is to carry out a 10-year retrospective study classifying patients into five groups based on the type of treatment received, analyzing the results' differences. The aim is to improve what is done as much as possible and to be able to propose potential areas for improvement. Besides, this study will be the basis of a future prospective study, prepared without the current one's biases and errors.

Walking Pattern Characteristics in Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus

20 patients who are diagnosed with NPH receive a set of 5 wearable gyroscopes (IMUs, ZurichMove sensors) for a period of 3 days for measurement and characterization of their walking in an ambulatory setting. At a follow-up 2 weeks to 6 months after CSF diversion surgery, the examination is repeated and improvement is measured. The data will be compared with a healthy group of 20 age- and gender-matched individuals as well a a group of 20 young individuals.

This randomized, double-blinded, cross-over study aim to evaluate the effects of shunt treatment in idiopathic normal pressure hydrocephalus (iNPH) by measuring cerebral ventricular volume and clinical symptoms at different shunt opening pressures. Further, proteins in the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) will be compared before and after shunt surgery.
