Filter by:This study aims to compare nutritional outcomes in terms of percentage of weight gain between a new planted-based high-energy ONS and a standard high-energy ONS with animal protein (cow's mil protein) in patients at malnutrition according to Global Leadership Initiative on Malnutrition (GLIM) criteria.
The primary objective of the proposed study is to investigate how PrEP use might result in an increase in the utilization of health and social services offered at a local community-based organization.Our primary hypothesis is that we will observe higher utilization of sexual health (STI screenings), psychosocial health (psychotherapy, and substance use treatment) and other social services (emergency cash assistance, food pantry, transportation assistance, clothing,and housing resources) among PrEP users (LAI-PrEP or daily oral) compared to participants who are PrEP naïve over the 12-month follow-up period.
This double-blind, placebo-controlled study is designed to assess the safety, tolerability, and pharmacokinetics of oral MK-8527 taken once monthly (QM) in participants at low risk for human immunodeficiency virus Type 1 (HIV-1) infection.
Since the reasons for differential immune reconstitution in HIV-infected patients are still not fully understood, we considered it reasonable to investigate whether the presence of primary HIV drug resistance mutations could be one of the factors of inadequate immune reconstitution. Evaluation of unfavorable factors of immune reconstitution can help identify patients at risk of persistently low CD4 cell counts and CD4:CD8 ratios and requiring careful monitoring for progression to AIDS.
The primary objective of the study is to evaluate the efficacy of a booster-free regimen including DOR/DTG/3TC among HIV-suppressed PLWH with previous virological failure. The key secondary objectives are i) to determine whether switching to DOR / DTG / 3TC leads to lower burden of DDI compared to continuing a booster-containing regimen, and ii) to assess changes in patient perception on treatment acceptability and satisfaction, as well as health-related quality of life after a switch to booster-free ART. Qualitative sub-study: Qualitative objectives will be met using semi-structured interviews. Thirty people (15 from the intervention arm, 15 from the control arm) will be interviewed twice, at week 0 and week 48. Additional 15 individuals from the observational cohort will be interviewed once. Interviews will take place following study visits and performed using semi-structured guides. The guide for the interviews at week 48 will be based on results from analyses of the interviews conducted at week 0.
This is a cluster randomized controlled trial determining the effectiveness of in-person or mHealth-based adolescent-friendly transition interventions compared to standard care on retention in care and viral suppression among adolescents living with HIV who have low transition readiness. Participants are adolescents living with HIV ages 15 to 19 years old in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa.
The goal of this pilot, phase 2, single-arm, clinical trial is to assess the antiretroviral combination Doravirine (DOR)/Lamivudine (3TC)/Tenofovir Disproxyl Fumarate (TDF) in participants with suppressed HIV who previously developed M184V/I mutation that confers resistance to 3TC. The main question it aims to answer is to explore the rate of HIV suppression 24 weeks after the switch to DOR/3TC/TDF. The study follow-up will continue until 48 weeks. Other endpoints will be metabolic changes, weight changes, modification in the HIV-DNA mutations overtime. Eligible participants will switch from their prior regimen to DOR/3TC/TDF with careful HIV-RNA monitoring.
The purpose of this study is to define the mechanisms of cannabis on the genome of people with HIV who use cannabis. The investigator aims to better understand the effect of Dronabinol on immune and inflammatory functions, and whether these changes are HIV-status dependent. This research may better inform public health policy regarding cannabis use. Depending on the results, additional studies may also build upon this research to develop more effective and specific treatments for cannabis use associated disorders.
HVTN 144 is a phase 1 clinical trial to being conducted to evaluate the safety and immunogenicity of an HIV envelope trimer, N332-GT5 gp140, adjuvanted with saponin/MPLA nanoparticles (SMNP) in adult participants without HIV. The study aims to evaluate the safety and tolerability of N332-GT5 gp140 adjuvanted with SMNP in adult volunteers without HIV and in overall good health, including identifying a safe and tolerable dose, route, and schedule of administration of the novel adjuvant SMNP. The study also aims to evaluate the induction of BG18-class immunoglobulin G (IgG) B-cell responses in memory B cells by the study regimens and compare the responses between the different groups. HVTN 144 will be conducted in 2 parts with 84 volunteers without HIV and in overall good health, aged 18 to 55 years. The study duration is 22 months which includes 8 months for enrollment, planned safety holds, follow-up, and Adverse Event of Special Interest (AESI) health contact 1 year after last vaccination.
The HIV diagnosis rate among African-born Black women is the highest of all Black individuals living in the US. Correct and consistent use of condoms and use of pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) are two effective means of decreasing HIV risk among women, but they remain suboptimal among Black women. The specific aims of this study are: 1. To culturally adapt two widely utilized, evidence-based HIV prevention interventions originally designed for US born Black women (Sister-to-Sister (S2S) and Sisters Informing Sisters about Topics on AIDS (SISTA)) for use by African-born women 2. To conduct a randomized controlled comparative effectiveness trial (RCT) to determine the effectiveness of adapted versions of S2S versus SISTA on increasing condom use and PrEP uptake among African-born women. The adapted versions of these interventions will be given new names that resonate with the African culture. The adapted version of S2S intervention will be called "Dada Kwa Dada (DKD)" intervention while the adapted version of SISTA intervention will be called "DADA" intervention. "DADA" means "Sister" in Swahili and other languages in Eastern and Western Africa.
