Epidemiological Study of Out-of-hospital Cardiac Arrest in Guangzhou

Aim This was a population-based retrospective cohort study of OHCA. This study intends to retrospectively analyze the data of pre-hospital emergency system in Guangzhou for 10 years, explore the incidence trend of OHCA in Guangzhou for 10 years; Through further analysis, we try to explore the time distribution characteristics of OHCA in order to understand the epidemiological characteristics and rules of OHCA in super large cities in southern China. Methods The pre-hospital traffic data in the main urban area of Guangzhou Emergency Medical Command Center database from 2011 to 2020 were collected. The cases diagnosed as "cardiac arrest" and "sudden death" were screened, and the cases with non-cardiac causes in the diagnosis were deleted. The crude incidence rate and age-standardized incidence rate of OHCA were calculated. Joinpoint software was used to calculate the changing nodes in the OHCA incidence trend, and the AnnualPercent Change (APC) and Average AnnualPercent Change (Average AnnualPercent Change, APC) of OHCA incidence were calculated. The data were imported into SPSS 26.0 for analysis, and Mann-Kendall test was used to evaluate the statistical significance of the time trend. Time rhythm variability was tested for mean distribution using chi-square goodness of fit test.

fMRI in CardiaC arrEst With Uncertain Prognosis

The goal of this observational study is to determine whether specific advanced MRI measures are associated with functional outcomes in patients who are comatose after cardiac arrest. The main question[s] it aims to answer are: Aim 1: Determine if stimulus-based functional MRI (fMRI)-measured activations are independently associated with favorable neurological outcomes after cardiac arrest Aim 2: Determine if resting state functional MRI (rs-fMRI)-measured functional network connectivity is independently associated with favorable neurological outcomes after cardiac arrest. Aim 3: Determine if diffusion tensor imaging (DTI)-measured white matter integrity is associated with favorable neurological outcomes after cardiac arrest. Participants will undergo advanced MRI sequences at time of clinical MRI, and will be followed for 6 months post-arrest.

AI to Improve Data From Danish Cardiac Arrest Registry

Out-of-hospital cardiac arrest is a leading cause of death worldwide and patient outcome vary substantially throughout regions suggesting further evaluation and potential for improvement.When focussing on subgroups of OHCA, data in certain areas remains scarce and the need of revised guidelines is evident. Furthermore, enhanced knowledge on these varieties of OHCA's apply to substantial number of patients, also among vulnerable populations. The Danish Emergency Medical System introduced a nationwide registry of electronic medical reports in 2016. This report system allows electronic searches and thereby the opportunity to identify subgroups of OHCA's. Thus, this novel reporting enables the evaluation of new characteristics of cardiac arrests of non-cardiac origin, in cases where an automated external defibrillator (AED) is retrieved but did not recommend defibrillation and finally in OHCA related to foreign body obstruction. With the advantages of artificial intelligence, this project will enhance and strengthen data from the Danish Cardiac Arrest Registry. It may substitute the manual validation of the around 9000 cases per year in Denmark. Further, it proposes improvement of quality and development of observational health research.

Intravenous vs. Intraosseous Vascular Access During Out-of-Hospital

The "Intravenous vs. Intraosseous Vascular Access During Out-of-Hospital Cardiac Arrest (IVIO)"-trial is an investigator-initiated, randomized, parallel group, patient and outcome assessor-blinded, superiority trial of intravenous vs. intraosseous vascular access during adult out-of-hospital cardiac arrest. The intraosseous group will be further randomized to humeral vs. tibial access. The trial will be conducted in the Central Denmark Region. The primary outcome will be sustained return of spontaneous circulation, and 762 patients will be included. Key secondary outcomes include survival at 30 days and survival at 30 days with a favorable neurological outcome.

While regular exercise is known to prevent cardiovascular disorders, exercise might also trigger acute cardiac events such as cardiac arrest. This study examines the incidence, prognosis and outcomes of out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) related to exercise in the general population of Denmark. This retrospective cohort study examins all OHCAs in the Danish Cardiac Arrest Registry from 2016 to 2019 in Denmark. OHCA related to exercise were identified in the nationwide electronic database and coupled to the patient register. OHCA related to exercise was defined as occurring during or up to one hour after exercise of moderate or vigorous intensity. Descriptive statistics are used together with an adjusted multivariate logistic regression model to assess predefined factors of interest.

Early Caries Lesion Management Observational Study

The purpose of this observational study is to assess the effectiveness of Curodont Repair Fluoride Plus (CRFP) compared to other tooth-specific treatments (silver diamine fluoride (SDF), sealants, or other FDA-approved treatments) in preventing progression to cavitation in patients with at least one early non-cavitated dental caries lesion. The study will also evaluate the effectiveness of CRFP in comparison to no tooth-specific treatment control groups, including whole mouth treatments such as: 2.26% fluoride varnish, 1.23% fluoride foam, and 5000 ppm fluoride prescription toothpaste; and no treatment, on caries arrest and in preventing progression to cavitation in patients with at least one early non-cavitated dental lesion.

Transorbital Ultrasound and Other Markers for Prognosis Prediction After Cardiac Arrest

In sudden cardiac arrest patients with return of spontaneous circulation, brain damage is one of the main determinants of short-term mortality and poor prognosis (CPC 3-5). It is important to properly select group of patients in whom treatment is futile. According to current guidelines, multimodal approach is recommended. Optic nerve sheath diameter measured by ultrasound is non-invasive, fast, low-cost and readily available bed-side method, but evidence for its use as neuroprognostication modality is limited to only few small studies. The aim of this study is to evaluate validity of ONSD as neuroprognostication method at larger cohort of patients, compare it with other established methods and compare ultrasound and CT measurement of ONSD.
