Filter by:The purpose of this research study is to determine whether involvement with a social worker helps reduce distress, depression, and increase patient activation in participants over a 6 month intervention period. The study will also describe common barriers to care that participants face.
This is a Phase I, multi-center, randomized, adaptive, investigator/patient-masked, placebo-controlled, parallel multiple-ascending dose study (Part A) with an extension including up to two selected doses from Part A and latanoprost 0.005% as active comparator (Part B).
Post-operative cystoid macular oedema (CMO) is a common complication causing visual loss following routine cataract surgery. This complication is more prevalent in eyes with excessive inflammation as they heal from surgery. Prostaglandin analogues (PGA) are the commonest first line drugs used in the long-term treatment of primary open angle glaucoma (POAG)- where they reduce the pathologically high pressure in the eye. Prostaglandins are inflammatory mediators. In the post-operative care of glaucoma patients undergoing cataract surgery, there is a clinical dilemma whether to stop or continue the use of prostaglandin eye drops. Clinical practice is completely dichotomized between continuing and stopping PGA treatment in the postoperative period. There is conflicting scientific literature on the effect of PGA on the incidence of CMO; and only a single randomized control trial (Miyake K, Arch Ophthalmol 1999, 117:34-40), where the post operative regime is not applicable to present practice, compared the incidence of CMO following routine cataract surgery in POAG on PGA.

The vast majority of blindness is avoidable. The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that 80% of cases of visual impairment could be prevented or reversed with early diagnosis and treatment. The leading causes of visual impairment are cataract and refractive error, followed by glaucoma, age-related macular degeneration (AMD), and diabetic retinopathy (DR). Loss of vision from these conditions is not inevitable; however, identifying at-risk cases and linking cases with appropriate care remain significant challenges. Worldwide, eye health care systems must determine optimal strategies for reaching people outside of their immediate orbit in order to reduce visual impairment. Visual impairment can be reduced by case detection of prevalent disease like cataract and refractive error, or by screening for early disease like glaucoma, AMD, and DR and preventing progression. Systems around the world have developed numerous approaches to both case detection and screening but there is very little research to support the choice of allocating resources to case detection or screening and little data exists on the cost effectiveness of the various approaches to each. VIEW II Pilot is a cluster-randomized trial to determine the effectiveness of different approaches to community-based case detection and screening for ocular disease. Communities in Nepal will be randomized to one of four arms: 1) a comprehensive ocular screening program, 2) a cataract camp-based program, 3) a community health worker-based program, and 4) no program.

The purpose of this study is to assess the safety and effectiveness of the Hydrus Microstent in patients with refractory open-angle glaucoma.
Aim: To demonstrate the non-inferiority of the PRO-122 ophthalmic solution manufactured by Laboratorios Sophia S.A. de C.V. versus Krytantek Ofteno® ophthalmic solution like hypotensive therapy in subjects with primary open angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension. Study design: a multicentric, prospective, crossover (2x2), double blind clinical study. Sample size: one hundred patients with primary open angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension. Patients in the period 1: In the first sequence 30 patients will be assigned to receive the ophthalmic solution: Krytantek Ofteno ® (timolol 0.5%%/brimonidine 0.2%/dorzolamide 2%) 1 drop B.I.D. during 30 days and the second sequence 30 patients will be assigned to receive the ophthalmic solution: PRO-122 1 drop B.I.D. during 30 days in the same period. Washout period: 20 hours. Patients in the period 2: the pharmacological intervention change to the opposite therapy for 30 days
This study evaluates the relationship between BMO-MRW and RNFL thickness measured by OCT. SD-OCT exam will be performed to all patients in this study.
