Filter by:Nowadays, EHPAD residents are polypathological (cognitive and psycho-behavioral pathologies, undernutrition, IC, diabetes, COPD, IR, etc.) and multi-medicated. From a medical point of view, this implies the need for regular monitoring and a high level of medical or even multidisciplinary expertise for the healthcare team. The objective of the GER-e-TEC ™ project is to provide these complex patients with telemedicine tools allowing protocolized and personalized, non-intrusive monitoring. The GER-e-TEC ™ project more specifically takes into account the significant issues in nursing homes of aging residents with the main geriatric syndromes (fall, undernutrition, cognitive-behavioral disorders, iatropathogeny, etc.) The objective of the work undertaken is to develop a codified preventive approach for the management of the main geriatric risks, in order to avoid the occurrence of an acute decompensation factor in the elderly.
The study has been designed to analyze the possible positive effects of a multicomponent physical exercise program monitored with an integrated electronic device system in dwelling-community frailty older adults. The study will assess changes in physical, nutritional, cognitive, and psychological aspects after program finishes at six months. Information will be collected by researchers at baseline, monthly and after study finishes.
Nursing homes are a recent occurrence in Guadeloupe, and little is known about the characteristics of their residents. In Guadeloupe, in the French West Indies, nearly 1200 dependent older people are cared for in nursing homes. The aim of the KArukera Study of Aging in Nursing Homes (KASEHPAD) is to study the care pathways of dependent elderly people in nursing homes in Guadeloupe over a year. The main objective will be to obtain the annual rate of hospitalisation in this setting. The secondary objectives will be to assess hospitalisations costs, the incidence of mortality, the prevalence of geriatric syndromes, as well as the quality of life of residents and professional caregiver burnout. Ultimately, these results will be compared to a similar study in nursing homes, the KASAF study (for Karukera Study of Aging in Foster Families).
Foster care for dependent older people could be a viable alternative to nursing homes. While this type of accommodation appears to be less expensive than living in a geriatric institution, few scientific studies have been able to assess its effectiveness and efficiency. In Guadeloupe, in the French West Indies, nearly 300 dependent older people are cared for by foster families. The aim of the Karukera Study of Ageing in Foster Families (KASAF) is to study the care pathways of dependent elderly people in foster care over a year. The main objective will be to obtain the annual rate of hospitalisation in this setting. The secondary objectives will be to assess hospitalisations costs, the incidence of mortality, the prevalence of geriatric syndromes, as well as the quality of life of residents and foster caregiver burnout. Ultimately, these results will be compared to a similar study in nursing homes, the KASEHPAD study (for Karukera Study of Aging in Nursing Homes).
The overlap of depression and delirium as geriatric syndromes present in elderly patients with hospital admission due to hip fracture has been previously studied. Nevertheless, the relationships between these two clinical processes and other geriatric syndromes, especially malnutrition, have not been studied. For this reason, a prospective cohort study has been designed to know the differences in the incidence of geriatric syndromes during hospital admission due to hip fracture in patients with and without risk of malnutrition.
This randomized, controlled trial will evaluate the effects of an intervention to reduce exposure to medications among hospitalized older adults discharged to skilled nursing facilities (SNFs). The goal of the intervention is to safely deprescribe medications, as defined by dose reductions and stopped medications, based on a combination of clinical criteria and patient preferences. The investigators will evaluate the effects of the intervention on the total number of medications prescribed to patients at hospital and SNF discharge and at home 90-days after SNF discharge along with the prevalence of eight geriatric syndromes, medication adherence, and health status.
In this study the investigators will incorporate a wide range of clinical variables associated with aging and cardiovascular disease to determine whether they are associated with mutation status independent of chronologic age. Clinically, aging can be operationalized using geriatric assessment, which entails a comprehensive multi-dimensional assessment of the health of an older adult, including measures of comorbidity, polypharmacy, functional status, cognition, depression, falls, social activities and social support. Given that aging is heterogeneous, geriatric assessment allows greater specificity for aging than chronological age alone.
