The goal of this study is to examine the effectiveness of a personalized type of psychotherapy against standard-care psychotherapy for addressing anxiety in youth with ASD.
The study will examine the effectiveness of group metacognitive therapy in comparison with group meditation therapy, in patients with Generalised Anxiety Disorder. Individuals will be randomly assigned to either meditation or metacognitive therapy and undergo 8 group therapy sessions of their respective treatment condition.
The aim of the current study was to test the efficacy of an individually administered, brief (5-session) transdiagnostic treatment for anxiety disorders. The current treatment (called F-SET) focuses chiefly on the elimination of anxiety maintaining behaviors and cognitive strategies (so-called "safety" aids) among individuals suffering from a range of anxiety disorders including generalized anxiety disorder (GAD), social anxiety disorder (SAD) and panic disorder (PD). We hypothesized that the F-SET protocol would produce better overall outcome relative to a waitlist control.
Behaviorally and cognitive-behaviorally based therapeutic techniques (BT; CBT) that incorporate exposure therapy useful for treatment of anxiety disorders among typically developing children. Although a large amount of data demonstrate the effectiveness of of BT and CBT approaches for treating anxious youth, there is a gap in the literature for the effectiveness of these approaches for children under the age of seven. Evidence increasingly suggests that family factors such as accommodation and parenting style contribute significantly to the presence of anxiety symptoms as well as treatment outcomes, particularly in young children. These findings stress the importance of using a treatment approach in which parents are directly involved in education, parent training, and generalization of treatment effects. Therefore, this study aims to evaluate a new treatment program, parent-led behavioral treatment, for children ages 3 to 7 years of age who have a principal anxiety disorder diagnosis.

The purpose of this project is to study the feasibility and efficacy of attention bias modification treatment (ABMT) in a randomized-controlled sample of anxious youth.
This is an open-label flexible-dose pilot study evaluating the efficacy, safety, and tolerability of Pristiq (desvenlafaxine) in outpatient subjects diagnosed with Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD) with or without comorbidities that are secondary to the GAD. Primary trial objective is to evaluate the efficacy of Pristiq (desvenlafaxine) SNRI treatment 50 to 100 mg once daily in the treatment of GAD with or without comorbidities. Secondary trial objective is to determine whether or not treatment outcome in GAD is related to changes in cortical prefrontal activity of norepinephrine.
The primary objective of the study is to determine whether quetiapine extended-release in combination with cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is more effective than CBT plus placebo in treating depressive and anxiety symptoms in patients with both major depression and generalized anxiety disorder. Approximately 64 individuals (adults 18-65) will be randomly assigned to treatment group for 16 weeks. Weekly CBT sessions will be conducted lasting about 45 minutes and weekly visits with the study psychiatrist lasting about 20 minutes in which medication will be discussed. Both clinician administered and self-report measures will be used to compare groups before and after 16 weeks.
Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD) is an anxiety disorder characterized by excessive and uncontrollable worry. Our research group has developed a cognitive-behavioural treatment (CBT) for GAD centered upon intolerance of uncertainty, a dispositional characteristic that arises from a set of negative beliefs about uncertainty and its consequences (Dugas & Robichaud, 2007). This CBT protocol has demonstrated good efficacy over four previous clinical trials: approximately 70% of participants fully remit from GAD following treatment and maintain these gains over extended follow-up periods. These results, while positive, do suggest that a substantial minority of individuals do not fully benefit from the existing treatment protocol. Across our randomized clinical trials, individuals who do not achieve diagnostic remission of GAD continue to endorse elevated levels of intolerance of uncertainty. This suggests that the current CBT protocol does not effectively reduce intolerance of uncertainty in some treated individuals. To address this, we have developed a modified version of the original CBT protocol that targets intolerance of uncertainty more directly. The goal of the current proposal is to determine whether this newly developed CBT protocol with fewer components can deliver comparable or superior GAD symptom reduction. A total of 7 participants with a primary diagnosis of GAD received the newly developed CBT protocol over 12 weekly sessions. Measures of GAD symptoms, psychopathology, and intolerance of uncertainty were administered at pre-, mid-, and post-treatment, as well as at 3- and 6-month follow-ups. The proposed study will provide information about the efficacy of this new CBT protocol in reducing GAD symptoms.
Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is a brief, efficient, and effective psychotherapy for individuals with depressive and anxiety disorders. However, CBT is largely underutilized within Veteran Affairs Medical Centers (VAMCs) due to the cost and burden of trainings necessary to deliver the large number of CBT protocols. Transdiagnostic CBT, in contrast, is specifically designed to address numerous distinct disorders within a single protocol. This transdiagnostic approach has the potential to dramatically improve the accessibility of CBT within VAMCs and therefore improve clinical outcomes of Veterans. The proposed research seeks to evaluate the efficacy of a transdiagnostic CBT by assessing clinical outcomes and quality of life in VAMC patients with depressive and anxiety disorders throughout the course of treatment and in comparison to an existing evidence-based psychotherapy, behavioral activation treatment.
