Filter by:Recommendations for carbohydrate intakes in the pre-exercise meal for endurance athletes are available; however, are lacking protein. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to quantify exercise-induced gastrointestinal symptoms and gut fullness occurring in response to a low protein (control) and a high protein (intervention) pre-exercise meal. The secondary purpose is to quantify blood glucose responses to a high-protein pre-exercise meal as compared to a low-protein control.
Every year in France, 60,000 children are born prematurely (before 37 weeks of amenorrhea), and present an immaturity of their various systems, in particular the digestive system. This can result in feeding intolerance, which is expressed by abdominal distension, regurgitation or vomiting, irregular transit and abdominal discomfort. This feeding intolerance influences the length of hospitalization and can lead to necrotising enterocolitis, a major complication. In the Neonatal Intensive Care Units of Clermont-Ferrand hospital center, abdominal massages have been performed by physiotherapists for several years in order to improve the condition of the digestive system. However, the indication for abdominal massage is very dependent on the caregivers in charge of the newborn and the evaluation of the abdominal condition remains subjective with a great variability between examiners. Thus, some newborns will receive massage multiple times a day while others will not. Developmental care is essential for these premature infants, especially to avoid over-stimulation. It is important not to add care, such as massage, if it is not needed. It is therefore essential to properly assess the digestive status of premature babies in order to determine whether they have feeding intolerance and whether they require treatment with abdominal massage. To date, the investigators have not found measurable criteria or existing scales that can describe the digestive status of newborns. The main objective of the study is therefore to create and validate a clinical assessment scale for the abdominal status of preterm infants.
The goal of this observational study is to learn about compare the effect of removing animal milk from diets on the symptoms of FD patients in describe participant population. The main question it aims to answer are: • Can removing milk and dairy from diets be used to treat FD patients? The participants will be divided into two groups and will do the following; - removing milk and dairy products under the advice of a dietician without medical treatment - receiving medical treatment without restricted diet. Researchers will compare two groups to the effect of removing milk from diet on the symptoms of FD patients.
The purpose of the study is to determine physical and mental health issues of U.K. embryologists related to their occupational characteristics, and how workplace fatigue and burnout may affect their quality of life, cynicism, interactions with patients, attention to detail, and lead to human error, the cause of the most severe IVF incidents that often make headlines and result in costly litigation. It will also correlate how the current manual workflows contribute to these health issues, and what measures can be taken to improve both working conditions and embryologists' health, and, therefore, improve patient care.
Dyspepsia refers to chronic or recurrent upper gastrointestinal symptoms. According to the Rome IV criteria, functional dyspepsia (FD) symptoms included meal related fullness, early satiation, epigastric pain or burning which are unexpl ained after routine investigation. FD causes substantial psychophysical burden because of its unknown etiology and high prevalence. Although FD is currently associated with local inflammation of the gastrointestinal tract and microbiota alteration, current available treatments for FD are of limited effectiveness. In view of this, many studies have applied Chinese herbal medicine in FD and achieved some therapeutic benefit. The Jing Si Herbal Tea Liquid Packet composed of eight native Taiwanese herbs (wormwo od, hickory grass, Ophiopogon japonicus, houttuynia cordata, platycodon, licorice, perilla leaves, chrysanthemum) has obtained a special export license from the Ministry of Health and Welfare. The Jing Si Herbal Tea Liquid Packet also has been registered i n clinical trials as a complementary treatment for Coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19). The preliminary data demonstrated that the Jing Si Herbal Tea Liquid Packet may improve gastrointestinal symptoms and anxiety in patients with COVID-19. Therefore, this study aims to investigate the impact of the Jing Si Herbal Tea Liquid Packet on psychophysical burden and metabolites of microbiota in patients with FD through a double blind randomized manner.
Researchers are trying to learn more about how individuals break down and process specific medications based on their genes. Pharmacogenomics (PGx) is a new, specialized field within individualized medicine. PGx is the study of how genes may affect the body's response to, and interaction with, some prescription medications. Genes carry information that determines things such as eye color and blood type. Genes can also influence how individuals process and respond to medications. Depending on genetic make-up, some medications may work faster or slower or produce fewer side effects.
Several studies using different methodological approach have revealed incomplete, old and conflicting data on the course of hepatobiliary manifestations after surgery. authors conducted a prospective observational study to evaluate the role of LRP on the course of hepatobiliary manifestations for a better knowledge of these manifestations that is necessary to improve their management.also, to evaluate the role of surgery on prevention of liver damage from progression of the disease.
To compare the rates of incisional surgical site infections (iSSIs) within 7 days of hepatopancreatobiliary (HPB) surgery using negative pressure wound therapy (NWPT) versus using standard sterile gauze dressing.
This is a Phase 1 dose escalating study to assess the safety, tolerability, and immunogenicity of ShigETEC, a live, attenuated Shigella/ETEC combination vaccine given orally to healthy European adults 18 to 45 years of age. The major aim is the development of an efficacious and safe vaccine that prevents diarrhea caused by Shigella and ETEC in travelers, military personal visiting endemic countries and children of the developing world. This Phase 1 safety and immunogenicity study used a double-blind, placebo-control design and was conducted in two stages, a single ascending and a multiple ascending stage.
This is an observational study in which data from people with functional gastrointestinal disorders who decide on their own or by recommendation of their doctors or pharmacists to take Iberogast Advance are collected and studied. In observational studies, only observations are made without specified advice or interventions. Functional stomach and bowel (or gastrointestinal) disorders are conditions in which the functionality of the gut, mainly the gut muscles or the gut/brain axis, is disturbed. Functional stomach and bowel disorders cause symptoms like heartburn, cramps and pain of the upper and middle part of the belly, also known as functional dyspepsia (FD) and irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). IBS affects predominantly the lower digestive system and causes symptoms like pain of the belly, cramps, bloating, diarrhea, and constipation. Iberogast Advance is already available in German pharmacies without prescription for patients with gastrointestinal disorders such as FD and IBS. It contains herb extracts that work against inflammation, are calming, and protect the mucosa (innermost layer of the gastrointestinal tract). Earlier controlled studies with Iberogast Advance have shown how well it works and how it affects the body. Since Iberogast Advance is only available since October 2020, there is no information on its use in the real-world setting yet. Therefore, the study researchers want to collect data on the use of Iberogast Advance in the real-world setting. To do this, people with long-term and repeated functional gastrointestinal symptoms who purchase Iberogast Advance from participating pharmacies across Germany will be asked to fill out a questionnaire optionally covering 6 weeks of treatment. The participants will take Iberogast Advance as recommended in the product information. The main purpose of this study is to see how well Iberogast Advance works and is perceived in the real-world setting. Participants will record how they experience a change of their gastrointestinal symptoms (assessed single-symptom-based) from start and during 6 weeks of treatment. Researchers will then compare the differences and analyze treatment effects. The researchers will additionally collect information on usage behavior, characteristics of the patients, their symptoms, tolerability and their satisfaction with Iberogast Advance. There will be no required tests or visits with a study doctor in this study. The researchers will collect the results of the patient questionnaires from Jun 2022 to January 2023.
