NCT ID: NCT03343392 Completed - Clinical trials for Hydrogen Peroxide Allergy

The Effect of Different Drugs in the Prevention of Tooth Sensitivity Caused by Tooth Bleaching Treatment.

NSAIDs
Start date: November 5, 2017
Phase: Phase 3
Study type: Interventional

Background: The administration of the intra-oral drugs was not capable of reducing this side effect, maybe the use of two analgesics may to present better analgesic effect to avoid the bleaching-induced tooth sensitivity (TS). Methods: A triple-blind, parallel-randomized clinical trial was conducted with 114 health patients who received either a placebo or an association of ketorolac tromethamine/acetaminophen. The first doses of two analgesic (Acetaminophen 750 mg/ Ketorolac Tromethamine 10 mg) or placebo was administered 1 h before the in-office bleaching (35% hydrogen peroxide), and extra doses were administered every 8 h for 48 h. The TS was recorded using 0-10 visual analog scale and a 0-4 numeric rating scale in different periods: during bleaching and from 1 h up to 6h, from 12 h up to 18h, from 18h up to 24 h, from 24h up to 48 h post-bleaching. The color was measured before and one month after dental bleaching with a visual shade guide Vita Classical, Vita Bleachedguide 3D-Master and spectrophotometer Vita Easyshade (Vita Zahnfabrik). The absolute risk of TS was evaluated by Fisher's exact test. Data of TS intensity with NRS scale of the two groups were compared with Mann-Whitney and Friedman tests, while data from the VAS scale were evaluated by two-way repeated measures ANOVA and Tukey's test for pairwise comparison. The color changes between groups were compared using a Student t-test (α = 0.05).

In-office Bleaching Using a Violet Light

Start date: July 2, 2017
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

The objective of this clinical study is to evaluate the effect of the whitening treatment performed with the violet LED light (405-410 nm), with or without a bleaching gel, on the tooth color changes (immediate and long-term), tooth sensitivity, satisfaction of participants in relation to the technique and impact on their quality of life. After being informed of the objectives of the study, 200 participants will be selected and randomly divided into a treatment group (n = 25): G1 - 35% hydrogen peroxide (HP) (4 sessions, 1 session/week); G2 - 30% carbamide peroxide (CP) (4 sessions, 1 session/week); G3 - Violet LED (405-410 nm, 4 sessions, 1 session/week); G4 - Violet LED (405-410 nm, 4 sessions, 2 sessions/week); G5 - Violet LED associated to 35% hydrogen peroxide (4 sessions, 1 session / week); G6 - Violet LED associated to 30% carbamide peroxide (4 sessions, 1 session / week); G7 - hybrid technique HP (Violet LED + application of 35% hydrogen peroxide + violet LED) (4 sessions, 1 session/week); G8 - Hybrid technique CP HP (Violet LED + application of 30% carbamide peroxide + violet LED) (4 sessions, 1 session/week). The color evaluation will be performed at predetermined times (before and immediately after treatment, 14 days after completion of bleaching and 3, 6 and 12 months after completion of bleaching), and quantitatively evaluated by colorimetric tests (objective and subjective) and spectrophotometry. In addition, it will be evaluated the tooth sensitivity during and after (48 hours) tooth whitening (VAS Scale), satisfaction with the treatment and impact on quality of life (OHIP-14 questionnaire). The data, except for survey data of satisfaction (descriptive evaluation), will be subjected to statistical analysis to determine the homogeneity and normality of the sample and for comparison between treatment groups, considering a 5% significance level.

Piroxicam-beta-Cyclodextrin on Tooth Sensitivity Caused by In-office Bleaching

Start date: December 13, 2016
Phase: Phase 3
Study type: Interventional

Objectives: This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of preemptive administration of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory Piroxicam-beta-Cyclodextrin on risk and level of tooth sensitivity caused by in-office bleaching procedures using 35% hydrogen peroxide. Fifty patients will be selected for this triple-blind, randomized, cross-over, placebo-controlled clinical trial. Piroxicam-beta-Cyclodextrin (200 mg) or placebo will be administrated in a single-dose thirty minutes prior to bleaching procedure. The whitening treatment with 35% hydrogen peroxide will be carried out in two sessions with a 7-day interval. Tooth sensitivity will be assessed Immediately before bleaching agent removal and up to 24 hours after each session the procedure using analog visual and verbal scales. Color alteration will be assessed by a bleach guide scale 7 days after each session. Relative risk to sensitivity will be calculated and adjusted by session; while comparison of overall risk will performed by Fisher's exact test. Data on the sensitivity level for both scales and color shade will be subjected to the Mann-Whitney and Friedman tests, respectively (α = 0.05).
