Filter by:The aim of this multicenter, cross-sectional, observational flash mob study is to investigate the prevalence of cognitive impairment in hospitalized elderly aged 65 years or older, and the recognition of cognitive impairment by healthcare professionals.
This cluster wait-list randomized controlled study investigates the effectiveness of Cognitive Stimulation Therapy (Hong Kong version) delivered by trained supportive staff and volunteers for people in maintaining the quality of life and cognition in people with mild-to-moderate cognitive impairment in community and residential care settings.
A randomized 2-group controlled trial will be conducted to explore the potential effect and potential feasibility of a new Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) tele-counselling program to improve mental health services for family caregivers of persons with dementia in the province of New Brunswick in Canada. The ACT tele-counselling program was launched in January 2021 with the aim of improving access to high quality psychotherapy for family caregivers, particularly in rural areas. A target sample size of 80 participants will be recruited and randomly allocated to either the ACT program or to usual care services. Mixed methods (QUANTITATIVE + qualitative) will be used to evaluate the potential impact of the ACT program compared to usual care on participant's mental health, and to generate recommendations for the expansion and continuation of the program outside of the province.
Audit and Feedback (A&F), a strategy aimed at promoting modified practice through performance feedback, is a method to change provider behaviour and reduce unnecessary medical services. This study aims to assess the use of A&F to change: 1. antibiotic prescribing for viral infections 2. antipsychotic prescribing to patients with dementia 3. routine measure of vitamin D in low risk adults 4. annual screening blood tests (without direct indication by the risk profile of the patient)
In this proposal, the investigators plan to study the effectiveness of our web-based intervention on dementia prevention knowledge, intentions, and behaviour change. Participants will be randomized to one of two groups - intervention and control. Participants randomized to the intervention group will receive the dementia prevention e-learning. Participants in the control group will be assigned an alternate-topic e-learning lesson. All participants will be given access to all e-learning at the conclusion of the study. The purpose of this phase is to explore if and how our dementia prevention e-learning influences participants' knowledge, intentions and health behaviours related to dementia risk.
The objective of this study is to develop and validate a clinical prediction tool to estimate 1-year mortality among hospitalized patients with dementia.
We followed a pretest-posttest non-equivalent control group experimental design study comparing two cohorts of patient with different types of dementia. Approximately 250 patients will be screened to achieve 240 participants, divided in two cohorts (120 each), furthermore each cohorts was divided in other two groups (experimental group (60 each) and control group (60 each) the first one followed up by private centres in Spain endowed with Occupational Therapy and the second by public centres in the region of Modena.
The primary objective is to assess the effectiveness of training a clinician to be a 'value champion' within clinical settings to decrease the use of three classes of potentially inappropriate prescription medications (PIMs) among people living with dementia (PLWD). Secondary objectives include determining if the intervention is associated with a reduction in emergency department (ED) visits or hospitalizations due to a fall, and examining five implementation outcomes: appropriateness, feasibility, fidelity, penetration, and equity. This study is a pragmatic cluster-randomized trial to test the effectiveness of a primary care clinician value champion for de-implementing PIMs among patients 65 years of age and older with a diagnosis of dementia. Medicare Part D pharmacy claims data will be analyzed at the end of the 12-month intervention for the primary outcome, the medication possession rates (MPR) for three groups of potentially inappropriate medications: antipsychotic medications, benzodiazepines, and hypoglycemic medications (sulfonylureas and insulin). In a similar fashion, a hospital admission, or an emergency department visit for a fall will be assessed at the end of the intervention using Medicare claims data. Finally, the five implementation outcomes will be evaluated at the end of the intervention from notes entered by the value champions in project workbooks. Primary care clinics within each of the two participating ACOs will be randomized to either the intervention or control arms of the study. Prior to random assignment, the investigators will stratify practices based on high versus low historic prescribing rates. A primary care clinician from each clinic selected for the trial in the intervention arm (n=30 across the two ACOs) will be recruited as a clinician value champion for each intervention clinic. The clinician value champion will participate in twice monthly value champion web-based training sessions for six months and then launch a 12-month initiative within the clinician value champions' clinics to reduce PIM prescribing among PLWD. Study outcomes will be assessed 12 months after the clinician value champions launch the initiative. The hypothesis is that for each medication class, the intervention will produce clinically relevant decreases in mean possession rates of 10% of a standard deviation in patients seen in intervention clinics compared to those who are seen in control group clinics.
The study investigated a six-week randomized controlled trial study in a small cohort of 16 family caregivers of individuals living with Alzheimer's disease and related dementias. Family caregivers used assistive technology in the form of visual mapping software on smart devices in the experimental condition to support their care recipients in carrying out activities of daily living. Family caregivers in the control condition viewed educational videos about dementia care on their devices in supporting their individuals. The intervention was implemented for a total of 6 weeks. The investigators hypothesized that compared to the caregivers using educational videos, the caregivers using assistive technology will report improved quality of life and completion of activities of daily living for their care recipients, all the while reducing caregiver's burden and stress.
This is a randomized controlled intervention aimed at improving cognitive decline in patients with dementia. The program includes exercise, cognitive training, and dementia education. The output index is expected to be an improvement in cognition, accompanied by an improvement in fitness, sleep quality, reduction in depression levels, and an improvement in quality of life. This is a program that is expected to be effective, inexpensive, easy to apply and does not require high expertise. A total of 50 dementia patients diagnosed and managed by the National Geriatric Hospital, Hai Duong Province General Hospital will be included in the study for 6 months. Patients were randomly assigned to an intervention group and received a program of physical exercise, cognitive training, dementia lecture, and long-term follow-up, or entered a control group to hear a lecture. about dementia. Cognition and fitness will be assessed after follow-up at 0, 3, and 6 months.
