Comparing the ultrasound imaging performance of swallowing and chewing function, tongue pressure and oropharyngeal muscle thickness in stroke patients with different levels of swallowing function 2. To explore the changes in clinical mastication and swallowing functions, tongue pressure and oropharyngeal muscle thickness in patients with dysphagia and stroke after swallowing treatment and neuromuscular electrical stimulation training. 3. To explore the correlation between clinical mastication and swallowing functions, tongue pressure, oropharyngeal muscle thickness and ultrasound imaging results in patients with dysphagia and stroke.
It was planned in a quasi-experimental design with a non-randomized control group. The study was planned to be completed in three stages: control, preparation and intervention periods. Question 1: Does a safe nutrition program prevent aspiration pneumonia, dehydration and malnutrition in acute stroke patients with dysphagia? Question 2: Is the safe nutrition program effective on addiction level, quality of life and depression in acute stroke patients with dysphagia? Question 3: Does a safe nutrition program shorten the hospital stay and NG tube duration in acute stroke patients with dysphagia?
This is a prospective multicenter study with patients with delayed dysphagia after radiotherapy for NPC. Patients enrolled are randomly divided equally into the observation group and the control group. All patients receive conventional care, and the observation group received IOE while the control group received NGT for enteral nutrition support. Baseline information (demographics, medical history, etc.), nutritional status at admission and after treatment, depression, dysphagia, and quality of life (QOL) after treatment as well as adverse events are compared.
The goal of this clinical trial is to explore the impact of Myofascial Release Training on swallowing function and quality of life in community-dwelling elderly individuals (≥60 year old) with swallowing disorders. It primarily aims to address the effects of Myofascial Release Training on swallowing function and quality of life in community-dwelling elderly individuals with swallowing disorders. All participants are required to undergo a continuous three-week (21 days) Myofascial Release Training, with weekends off and training conducted only on weekdays. The training will be conducted two sessions per day, lasting 15-30 minutes each.
The goal of this clinical trial is to explore Clinical Effect of Myofascial Release Therapy in Dysphagic Stroke Survivors. The main question it aims to answer is: • Can Myofascial Release Therapy improve swallowing function in Stroke Survivors? Patients will be randomly allocated into the control group or the experimental group, all under rehabilitation treatment, the experimental group will be given Myofascial Release Therapy. The study lasts 21 days for each patient. Researchers will compare the Functional Oral Intake Scale, Penetration-Aspiration Scale, Swallowing Quality of Life to see if the Myofascial Release Therapy can help improve the situation.
We are currently conducting a randomized controlled study in China, specifically in three hospitals' rehabilitation medicine departments, focusing on dysphagic participants with Parkinson's disease. The aim of our study is to evaluate the effectiveness of acupuncture therapy as an additional intervention for these participants. Participants were randomly assigned to either the experimental group or the control group, with 56 individuals in each group. Both groups are receiving standard treatment and swallowing rehabilitation training, while the experimental group is also receiving acupuncture therapy. Our study aims to provide valuable insights into the potential benefits of acupuncture in improving swallowing difficulties in Parkinson's disease participants.
Current oropharyngeal dysphagia (OD) treatment in older patients is based on compensatory strategies (fluid thickening and texture modified diets) that improve swallow safety but do not improve the swallowing function. One of these strategies is thickening products, which are used to reduce pharyngeal bolus velocity by increasing viscosity of fluids. There are several studies demonstrating the therapeutic effect of thickeners in reducing the prevalence of penetrations and aspirations, and their use has been correlated with reduced prevalence of respiratory infections, aspiration pneumonia and hospital readmissions. In recent years, new neurorehabilitation treatment strategies for OD have been developed such as peripheral (electrical or chemical stimulation) or central stimulation (transcranial direct current stimulation or repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation). The investigators suggest that new generation treatments for OD have to combine thickened fluids and about peripheral stimulation using transient receptor potential (TRP) channels agonists. The aim of this study is to evaluate the therapeutic effect of a cooling sensation (CS) flavor in a pre-thickened oral nutritional supplement (ONS) drink on the biomechanical mechanism of the swallow response in chronic post-stroke patients with OD. The investigators designed a randomized, crossover, interventional and open-label clinical study. The study includes 2 groups: 1) n=25: 1st visit: stimulation with Control, 2nd visit: stimulation with CS; and 2) n=25: 1st visit: stimulation with CS, 2nd visit: stimulation with Control. Each patient will attend a total of 2 visits, with a washing period of at least 7 days between visits. The procedures to be performed during each visit are: clinical assessment of swallowing with V-VST, spontaneous swallowing frequency measurement using electromyography, and collection of a sample of saliva using a Salivette®.
This was a multicenter randomized controlled study. 66 post-stroke patients with pharyngeal dysphagia were randomly allocated to the observation group (n=33) or the control group (n=33). Both groups were provided with comprehensive rehabilitation including routine rehabilitation and swallowing function training. Besides, the observation group additionally underwent the stellate ganglion block (SGB). At admission and after 20-day treatment, Kubota water swallowing test, video fluoroscopic swallowing study (VFSS), and Rosenbek penetration-aspiration scale (PAS) were used to assess swallowing function.
The study is a double-blind randomized controlled trial, lasting for 15 days for each participant. Patients with post-stroke dysphagia who receive treatment at the Rehabilitation Department are selected as the study subjects. The patients are randomly assigned to either the experimental group or the placebo group. All patients receive routine rehabilitation therapy and swallowing rehabilitation training, along with enteral nutrition support using Intermittent Oro-esophageal Tube. In addition to these interventions, patients in the experimental group receive transcranial direct current stimulation, while the instruments used for patients in the placebo group only illuminate an indicator light without any actual effect.
