There are about 4372 clinical studies being (or have been) conducted in Greece. The country of the clinical trial is determined by the location of where the clinical research is being studied. Most studies are often held in multiple locations & countries.
Endothelial dysfunction occurs early in chronic kidney disease (CKD) and is associated with target organ damage, progression of renal injury, cardiovascular events, and mortality. Near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) is a relevant new, noninvasive method that assesses local tissue oxygenation and can provide valuable information about local oxygen consumption and blood flow. Using postocclusion reactive hyperemia, NIRS technology provides valuable information on skeletal muscle's oxidative capacity, microvascular function, and muscle oxygenation at rest and during exercise. With regard to cerebral oxygenation, NIRS noninvasively monitors alterations and assesses relative changes from baseline for oxygenated, deoxygenated, and total hemoglobin. Due to its ability to assess microvascular function, NIRS has been applied in various populations with impaired microvascular function, including patients with hypertension, diabetes, CAD, and end-stage kidney disease. However, there is no study up to date assessing muscle oxygenation and microvascular function measured via NIRS in patients with different stages of CKD. Hence, this study aims to examine possible differences in muscle and oxygenation at rest, exercise, and during an occlusion-reperfusion maneuver in CKD stages 2-4 with NIRS. In addition, this is the first study examining potential associations between micro-, macrovascular dysfunction and potentially impaired muscle and cerebral oxygenation in CKD patients.
This study is open to adults with bronchiectasis. People can join the study if they produce sputum and have a history of flare-ups (also called exacerbations). The purpose of this study is to find out whether a medicine called BI 1291583 helps people with bronchiectasis. Participants are put into 4 groups randomly, which means by chance. Participants in groups 1, 2, and 3 get different doses of BI 1291583. Participants in group 4 get placebo. Placebo tablets look like BI 1291583 tablets, but do not contain any medicine. Participants take the tablets once a day. Participants are in the study for between 6 months and 1 year. During this time, they visit the study site about 10 times and get about 5 phone calls from the site staff. The doctors document when participants experience flare-ups during the study. The time to the first flare-ups is compared between the treatment groups. Doctors also regularly check participants' health and take note of any unwanted effects.
Chronic neck pain (CNP) is reported to be one of the most common musculoskeletal pain syndromes. Studies showed that patients with chronic neck pain compensated with changes in Pain, Function, Musculoskeletal and Respiratory outcomes. The diaphragm is a primary respiratory muscle contributing to postural stability and spinal control. Many studies showed that manual therapy and exercise improve clinical and respiratory outcomes in CNP patients. Few studies highlight the importance of diaphragm manual therapy and Reeducation Breathing Exercises in musculoskeletal diseases and in CNP patients. However, the exact mechanism is still unclear. This study aims to examine the hypothesis that: "Diaphragm Manual Therapy and Breathing Reeducation Exercises combined with cervical manual therapy - improve clinical and respiratory outcomes more than cervical manual therapy intervention only or conventional physiotherapy
In this study, the investigators will be able to estimate the metabolic cost of several foundational bodyweight training exercises.
In this study, the investigators will be able to estimate the metabolic cost of several foundational suspension training exercises.
Biscuits enjoy high popularity in the human diet and can be excellent snack alternatives and potential carriers of ingredients with appetite regulating properties. In the present study, the effects of a wheat biscuit enriched with plant proteins originated from legumes and seeds on gastrointestinal hormone responses of women with overweight/obesity after a hypocaloric dietary intervention will be examined.
After topical installation of one drop of 0.3% commercially available ofloxacin (Oxatrex®) four times at intervals of 15min in catarract patients with Dry Eye Disease, aqueous humour samples will be collected intraoperatively, one hour after the last installation. Concentration of ofloxacin in aqueous humour will be measured by HPLC-MS/MS.
The present research process is a prospective clinical study that will be conducted under the auspices of the Democritus University of Thrace (DUTH) in the open accommodation structure for refugees and immigrants of Kavala, Kavala, Greece, and the Pre-Removal Detention Center (PROKEKA) for Foreigners of Kos, Kos, Greece. The study aims to assess the basic ophthalmological condition of the refugee/immigrant population and is developed in two main areas: 1. The recording of the ophthalmological care that the refugee/immigrant has received until his/her inclusion in the study through a structured questionnaire (eg previous examinations, spectacle utilization, pharmaceutical or other interventions, etc.) 2. The measurement of monocular best-spectacle corrected visual acuity in both eyes using a web-based visual acuity chart. Adult participants living in the two aforementioned centers will be recruited in a consecutive-if-eligible basis. All age groups will be proportionally represented (proportional age distribution).
The study was designed as a randomized, placebo-controlled trial with follow-up at 3 months. The study is in accordance with the Declaration of Helsinki and was approved by the Institutional Bioethical Committee of the National Hellenic Research Foundation. All the study participants received informative material, filled a questionnaire regarding the self-assessment of their health status and nutritional habits, and signed their written informed consent. In total, excluding the participants that did not return for the follow-up (dropouts), 122 apparently healthy volunteers of age 29-85 were followed, with 43 of them being randomly assigned in the placebo subgroup and 79 receiving the composition of the present invention.
