People with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) are at greater risk for Metabolic syndrome (MetS). Although the management of MetS will not cure COPD, it can beneficially impact health outcomes and quality of life through lifestyle modifications. The study aims to determine if using the Digital Metabolic Rehab program, which is based on preventive self-care and includes three key pillars of health: nutrition, fitness, and mindfulness, will be feasible to reduce or reverse MetS for individuals living with COPD.

The Efficacy of Intra-articular Triamcinolone Acetonide 5mg vs. 10 mg vs. 40 mg in Patients With Knee Osteoarthritis

Osteoarthritis of the knee is a common problem that is increasing in prevalence as the population ages. In a knee with osteoarthritis, there is variable damage to the articular cartilage and underlying bone that can cause varying degrees of pain. When pain is bothersome, osteoarthritis is treated to improve functional abilities. One of the most recognized and used treatments is intra-articular cortisone injection. Cortisone is a powerful anti-inflammatory drug that is used to reduce pain. Unfortunately, cortisone can have significant side effects, even when injected locally. The frequency and intensity of these side effects depend largely on the total dose injected. The main side effects include increased blood sugar levels, increased blood pressure and a temporary decrease in the secretion of the stress hormone, cortisol. In the long term, a decrease in articular cartilage thickness in the injected join and overall bone density reduction is also reported. Despite many years of routine use, the smallest effective dose of cortisone injected into the knee joint is unknown. The main objective of the study is to determine the impact on pain and function of different doses of cortisone injected into the knee. The cortisone chosen for this study is triamcinolone acetonide (TA).

Periprosthetic distal femur fractures are a significant source of morbidity and mortality for elderly patients. One treatment option involved a surgical fixation with plates or nails, screws and cables/wires along the side of your fractured bone. The second method consists in replacing your knee joint with an artificial knee prosthesis (artificial knee joint). The primary objective is to determine if acute distal femur replacement improves knee pain and functional outcomes compared to surgical fixation. Secondary outcomes are mortality, reoperation, complications, post-operative pain and quality of life. A health economic analysis will be conducted to assess the cost-effectiveness of both treatments. A total of 148 patients (74/group) will be enrolled in the study.

RCT: Effect of Late vs Early Introduction of Gluten-free Oats on Patients With Newly Diagnosed Celiac Disease.

The investigators are conducting a pilot study to investigate the impact of late compared to early introduction of gluten-free oats on gut symptoms, nutrition status, celiac activity and quality of life in patients with a recent diagnosis of celiac disease. Pilot study means that it will recruit a low number of participants to see if it is possible to perform the study, and to estimate how many participants will be needed for the large study. The study will collect information through questionnaires that assess gut symptoms, quality of life, mood changes and dietary patterns. Moreover, the study will collect data on tests done during clinic visits to check the status of patients' celiac markers and nutritional status (such as vitamins and minerals). Physical exam will also take place, and include measurement of weight, BMI and body composition in a 3D scanner. The dietitian will analyze patients' diet at each visit during the study period. Given the lack of evidence on timing of introduction of gluten-free oats for patients with a recent celiac diagnosis, and the potential risks of limiting oats in a gluten-free diet, the results will hopefully lead to better understanding of whether one strategy has a benefit over the other.

With this ultimate goal, we designed the Good Start Matters - Parenting program, which aims to engage families in positive parenting practices that support healthy child behaviors, and aim to evaluate the efficacy of this intervention with a Randomized Controlled Trial (RCT). The Good Start Matters - Parenting program is a 2-month mobile-Health (mHealth) parenting intervention which promote positive parenting (primary outcome) and support children's healthy nutrition, physical activity, and decrease screen-time (secondary outcomes).
