Effectiveness and Tolerability of Trimetazidine 80mg Once Daily in Patients With Chronic Coronary Syndrome: The V-GOOD Study

The objective of this non-interventional multicentric study (NIS) is to investigate the efficacy and tolerability of treatment with Vastarel Caps LP® in symptomatic patients with angina over 3 months under conditions of daily practice. The main questions it aims to answer are data collection on antianginal efficacy, symptom class, adherence, and overall tolerability in patients treated with Vastarel Caps LP®. Patients diagnosed with chronic coronary syndrome and persistent stable angina, for whom the cardiologist chose to prescribe Trimetazidine 80mg once daily, were included in the study. Clinical information was collected in three distinct visits at baseline (V1), 1 month (V2), and 3 months (V3). During these visits, cardiologists collected the following variables based on a weekly occurrence: number of angina crises, short-acting nitrates (SAN) consumption, Canadian Cardiovascular Society (CCS) classification, level of self-reported daily physical activity, adherence, and tolerability to the treatment. Physical activity was measured using a scale from 1 to 10 (1 = no limitations, 5 = moderate limitations, and 10 = very marked limitations). Adherence was assessed by a previously validated six-item questionnaire. Assessment of therapy efficacy and tolerability were rated by the physician as "very satisfactory", "satisfactory", "not sufficiently satisfactory", and "unsatisfactory".

Cost-effectiveness of RFA vs. PEI for Early-stage HCC

Introduction: Liver transplantation(LT) is the gold-standard treatment for unresectable early-stage HCC within the Milan criteria. However, long waiting time can lead to dropout from LT candidacy. Local ablative procedures play a key role in the patient care enabling downsizing. Radiofrequency ablation(RFA) and percutaneous ethanol injection(PEI) are two valuable non-surgical neoadjuvant alternatives, but the most cost-effective treatment strategy remains controversial. Purpose: to assess whether RFA is cost-effective compared to PEI in adult patients with early-stage hepatocellular carcinoma within the Milan criteria. Methods: a pilot, single-center, randomized, open-label trial, with blinded end-point assessment, in which PEI was compared with RFA. Patients with early-stage hepatocellular carcinoma within the Milan criteria, listed for LT and indication for neoadjuvant treatment were eligible for enrollment. The primary outcome was the complete response rate according to mRECIST criteria at 60 days after the treatment. Secondary outcomes were the costs, rates and degrees of complications and the cost-effectiveness analysis of both techniques.

Treatment of Cutaneous Leishmaniasis With Liposomal Amphotericin B in the Elderly

A randomized controlled pilot trial with the aim of identifying the dose of liposomal amphotericin B associated with the highest cure rate in Cutaneous Leishmaniasis (CL). We selected 28 patients of both sexes, aged 60 years or older, diagnosed with CL and confirmed by detection of L. braziliensis DNA. The groups were treated with different total doses of medication: G1: 12 mg/kg; G2: 18mg/kg; G3: 24 mg/kg. Clinical and laboratory evaluations were carried out during the period of 180 days (D0, D15, D30, D60, D120, D150 and D180).

Exercise as an Adjunctive Therapy for Patients on Maintenance Hemodiafiltration

Patients with chronic kidney disease suffer from uremic toxin accumulation. Treatments with hemodiafiltration demonstrate the highest capacity for removing solutes, as well as improving mortality. While exercise has been proven as an adjunct therapy in patients on maintenance hemodialysis, little is known about the exercise influence in maintenance hemodiafiltration programs. Methods: A retrospective observational study of chronic kidney disease patients at Fenix Nephrology group from 2021 until 2023. Patients were assessed at the start of the exercise program and after six months of rehabilitation. Physical tests included a step-test for endurance, handgrip and one-repetition maximum for muscle strength. The Kidney Disease Quality of Life Short Form evaluated patient-reported outcomes. Kt/V urea and urea reduction ratio were surrogates for hemodiafiltration adequacy. Patients carried out twice weekly aerobic exercises at 70% of the maximum heart rate during the step test, and resistance exercises at 60% of one-repetition maximum.

Horizontal Bone Augmentation of Alveolar Ridge

The objective of this randomized controlled clinical trial was to evaluate the effects of particulate xenogeneic bone grafts associated with autogenous bone graft or Leukocyte-and-Platelet-Rich Fibrin (L-PRF) for horizontal alveolar ridge augmentation. Twenty-eight patients presenting edentulous regions and requiring horizontal bone augmentation prior to dental implant placement were included in this study and randomly divided into two groups according to the proposed guided bone regeneration (GBR) treatment. Fourteen surgical sites corresponding to Group A received bone regeneration with particulate autogenous bone tissue associated with deproteinized bovine bone graft (Bio-Oss Small®; Geistlich AG, Wolhusen, Switzerland). In Group B, fourteen surgical sites were regenerated with deproteinized bovine bone graft (Bio-Oss Small®) associated with L-PRF. In both groups, the grafted region was protected by a collagen membrane (Bio-Gide® Compressed; Geistlich AG, Wolhusen, Switzerland) fixed to the buccal and palatal bone plates using titanium pins. Cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) scans were performed preoperatively, immediately after the GBR surgical procedure, after 8 months of GBR healing, and immediately after dental implant placement to measure linear and volumetric changes in the alveolar ridge. At the time of dental implant placement, after an average period of 8 months following the guided bone regeneration procedures, bone biopsies were taken from the grafted area for histological, histomorphometric, and micro-CT analysis. After a period of 6 months, the dental implants were reopened to receive implant-supported prosthetic rehabilitation. Implant stability was assessed using resonance frequency analysis at the time of implant placement in the grafted area and after an average of 6 months during the reopening surgical stage. Patient pain perception following bone regeneration procedures was assessed using a visual analog scale. All obtained data were statistically analyzed.

Comparison Low-Level Laser Therapy With Cryotherapy in Parturients With Laceration and/or Episiotomy on Pain Reduction

The changes that occur during pregnancy can lead to symptoms and complaints for women. Vaginal delivery has several benefits for both the mother and baby; however, during labor, some injuries may occur, such as lacerations and episiotomies. It is known that the postpartum period is when the body is involuting to its pre-pregnancy state. The perineal pain caused by these injuries during childbirth is a determining factor for recovery, and it may affect not only the physical but also the psychological well-being of women. Therefore, it is necessary to employ techniques that can alleviate pain and edema in the immediate postpartum period, directly influencing recovery. Objective: To compare the use of photobiomodulation with cryotherapy in the immediate postpartum period of 2 hours in parturients who suffered 1st and 2nd-degree lacerations and/or episiotomies. Methods: A randomized clinical trial will be conducted to compare two interventions. Data collection will be through a questionnaire and scales for the evaluation of pain and edema, with women who experienced vaginal delivery and those who suffered 1st and 2nd-degree lacerations or episiotomies. Expected results: Reduction of pain, edema, and inflammatory processes with non-pharmacological techniques, leading to greater comfort and better postpartum recovery.
