There are about 13446 clinical studies being (or have been) conducted in Belgium. The country of the clinical trial is determined by the location of where the clinical research is being studied. Most studies are often held in multiple locations & countries.
To investigate the safety and technical success of EUS-guided gastroenterostomy (EUS-GE) using the AXIOSTM lumen-apposing Metal Stent for the management of symptoms associated with gastric outlet obstruction from malignant unresectable neoplasm.
Out of all proportion to its short duration, the perioperative period is critical in determining the long-term outcome of cancer. To contribute to a better understanding of the neural and inflammatory mechanisms underlying this issue, we aim to implement a novel intervention based on the preoperative use of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) with or without an anti-epileptic drug. Our goal is to understand and transform the perioperative window from being a facilitator of metastatic progression to arresting and/or eliminating residual disease using repurposing drugs
Multicentric, observational and longitudinal prospective evaluation of build-in-software data telemonitoring of home ventilators in patients using Home Mechanical Ventilation in Belgium.
Study goal: The goal of this prospective head to head comparison is to evaluate the effectiveness of [18F]-MFBG PET in assessing cardiac innervation, comparing it with [123I]-MIBG SPECT The study's primary focus is on distinguishing between Parkinson's disease (PD) and multiple system atrophy (MSA), as well as between dementia with Lewy bodies (DLB) and Alzheimer's disease (AD). Main questions: - Feasibility: How well can [18F]-MFBG PET detect changes in myocardial uptake in PD and DLB compared to the expected normal values in healthy individuals and AD and MSA-P patients? How well can it differentiate between these groups based on the detected changes? - Non-inferiority: Is [18F]-MFBG PET as accurate as [123I]-MIBG SPECT in distinguishing between PD and MSA-P, and between DLB and AD? Participant requirements: For the main study, participants will be required to visit the hospital for 3 or 4 appointments. During these visits, they will undergo a screening visit, MRI brain scan, a comprehensive neurological assessment, [18F]-PE2I PET, [123I]-MIBG SPECT, and [18F]-MFBG PET scans. Additionally, a separate dosimetry study will be conducted, involving healthy subjects who will visit the hospital for a screening visit and undergo [18F]-MFBG PET scans.
This study aims to evaluate the healing rate of complex fistulas using radiofrequency (Fistura® procedure), in a prospective, interventional, monocenter, single-arm design.
The goal of this phase I interventional study is to determine the safety and feasibility of the proposed investigational (neo-)adjuvant treatment regimen in patients with resectable reccurent glioblastoma. Participants will: - receive neo-adjuvant administration of intravenous immunotherapy - followed by a maximal safe neurosurgical resection - afterwards, immunotherapy will be injected into the brain tissue - followed by insertion of an Ommaya reservoir - postoperatively, administration of immunotherapy will be continued
A Prospective, Single-Center trial, in Patients With Acute on Chronic Liver Failure. Study of Standard Medical Care Plus CytoSorb® Compared to Standard Medical Care Alone in a historical group.
Cold agglutinin disease (CAD) is defined as a chronic autoimmune hemolytic anemia (AIHA) with a monospecific direct antiglobulin test (DAT) strongly positive for C3d and the presence of cold agglutinins (CA; titer ≥ 64 at 4°C). Patients may have a B-cell clonal lymphoproliferative disorder (LPD) detectable in blood or marrow but no clinical or radiological evidence of malignancy. CAD can lead to AIHA, peripheral ischemic symptoms (cold-induced peripheral symptoms such as acrocyanosis etc.), or both. The CAs are typically monoclonal IgM antibodies produced by the clonal B-cells, usually IgM kappa with specificity for the I antigen on erythrocytes. There is no curative treatment. Current treatment options include rituximab monotherapy, however this has only a limited and short-lasting effect. Rituximab in combination with chemotherapy induces deeper and more durable responses, however since CAD patients typically do not have an overt malignancy this comes with concerns about short- and long-term toxicity. Novel complement inhibitors may be effective for the hemolysis but are not expected to be effective against cold induced peripheral symptoms while this is directly IgM mediated. Bruton Tyrosine Kinase inhibitors (BTKis) are effective in many B-cell lymphoproliferative disorders including the IgM producing clone of Waldenström macroglobulinemia (WM) and were very effective on both AIHA and peripheral ischemic symptoms in patients with CAD based on retrospective data.
After spinal cord injury (SCI), there is a disruption in neural circuits resulting in paralysis. There is not yet a cure for paralysis. In persons with Cervical SCI (pwC-SCI) recovery of arm-hand function is very important as it has a significant impact on the patients' level of independence and quality of life. Recovery is assumed to involve alterations in both central and peripheral motor systems. Motor training at an intensive dosage potentially provides a powerful stimulus for neurological recovery. This project exploits the peripheral and central neuroplastic effect of an early (<10 weeks after injury) and intensive (10 weeks of 12 hours in addition to usual care) upper limb motor training program (EIUMT) directed at recovery below the level of the injury in pwC-SCI within an international multi-center randomized controlled trial including 40 pwC-SCI. It has 4 objectives: to investigate 1)central neural plasticity by identifying alterations in cortical neuroplasticity and corticospinal excitability; 2)peripheral neural plasticity by identifying alteration in axonal excitability and number of motor units; 3)behavioral motor recovery of upper limb and 4)relationships between dose dimensions of motor intervention and behavioral and neurophysiological outcome measures aer EIUMT. Cutting-edge neurophysiological measures are used to provide insight in the mechanism of neuroplasticity after EIUMT and will be taken before and after EIUMT and at 6 months follow-up.
This clinical trial aims to test the psychobiological effects of certain substances produced by gut bacteria, known as short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs), in people with anorexia nervosa.
