Filter by:EUS - guided choledocho-duodenostomy (ECDS) is an established option for bile duct drainage in unresectable malignant distal CBD strictures when endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) fails. However, how primary ECDS compares with ERCP with covered self-expanding metallic stents (CSEMS) in unresectable malignant distal CBD strictures is uncertain. The aim of the current study is to compare primary ECDS versus ERCP with CSEMS in unresectable malignant distal CBD strictures. We hypothesis that ECDS is associated with a higher 1-year stent patency rate.
Among patients admitted with cerebral ischemia (stroke and transitory ischemic attack (TIA)) it is important to reveal the underlying cause of the disease. In special it is important to reveal if carotid artery stenosis is present as such a finding will directly influence on treatment and follow-up. For the diagnosis of carotid artery stenosis due to atherosclerosis ultrasound examinations is the cornerstone, but computer tomography and magnetic resonance imaging may be better in some cases. Development of high quality pocket-sized ultrasound scanners has allowed for semi quantitatively bed-side assessment of the carotid arteries and the heart. The investigators aim to study the feasibility and reliability of bed-side assessment of the carotid arteries by pocket-sized ultrasound scanners in inexperienced hands and the clinical influence of this examination when performed by experienced users. The investigators hypothesize that a significant proportion of this patient population can be clarified bed-side by junior doctors with no need of further imaging procedures for the assessment of the carotid arteries and the heart.
Trial of ACURATE neo(TM) Aortic Bioprosthesis for Implantation using the ACURATE TA(TM) LP Transapical Delivery System in Patients with Severe Aortic Stenosis for evaluating the Safety and performance of the study device
TLIF is a popular lumbar fusion technique to perform interbody fusion. Pedicle screws providing initial stability have been developed to correct deformity, improve the rate of fusion and speed patient's postoperative recovery. Conventionally, bilateral pedicle screw fixation is a standard approach. Recently, studies have revealed that unilateral pedicle screw fixation provides equivalent clinical outcomes and fusion rates as compared with bilateral pedicle screw fixation in lumbar fusion. Meanwhile, the unilateral approach can reduce intraoperative blood loss and operating time. To our knowledge, few randomized controlled studies comparing unilateral versus bilateral instrumented TLIF in lumbar degenerative diseases have been reported. The purpose of this study is to compare clinical and radiographic outcomes in a series of patients with lumbar foraminal stenosis using instrumented TLIF with unilateral or bilateral pedicle screw fixation.

The purpose of this investigation is to collect data pertaining to the safety and performance of the ACURATE neo (TM) Aortic Bioprosthesis as implanted with the ACURATE neo (TM) TA Transapical Delivery System. This device is intended for treatment of subjects with severe aortic stenosis (AS) who have high risk for conventional aortic valve replacement (AVR) surgery. The ACURATE neo (TM) Aortic Bioprosthesis is intended for use via minimally-invasive transapical implantation in a well-defined population.

There is no international consensus on evaluation and surgical treatment of Lumbar Spinal Stenosis (LSS). The indication for operative treatment is relative, and the variation in surgical rates and procedures is significant, both within and between countries. Understanding practice-based variety is critical since these differences may reflect a disparity in quality of the health care in different institutions, regions, or countries. Norway, Sweden, and Denmark do all have National spine registers for research and quality assessment. Comparing indications for surgery, selected procedure, patient reported outcomes, and factors predicting outcome after surgery for LSS between these countries could provide information about optimal indications and strategy for surgery. Register-based studies have advantages such as large sample sizes and high external validity, but also limitations such as lower follow-up rates, and inferior data quality compared to clinical trials. Hypotheses: Between these three countries, there are no differences in (i) indications for surgery, (ii) patient-reported outcome after surgery or (iii) risk factors associated to outcome are similar.
The association study will compare the allele frequencies of polymorphisms of a single nucleotide (SNP) in the population of individuals with aortic stenosis compared to a control population. Patients will be included only if they are suffering from a typical form of tight and surgical tricuspid aortic stenosis. Patients will therefore only included if they are suffering from aortic stenosis, the surface is less than 1 cm² and if histological analysis or failing intraoperative findings of the surgeon showed a tricuspid aortic stenosis.
