Depressive disorder, also known as depression, is a type of mood disorder characterized by persistent low mood. The incidence of depression worldwide is about 6%. The high comorbidity rate between depression and constipation indicated the role of the gut-brain axis in depression. Growing evidence suggested that the gut microbiota plays a key role in the development of depression. Probiotics can effectively improve constipation and regulate gut microbiota, and showed potential in alleviating depression. This study investigated the effect of formula probiotic (containing Lactobacillus paracasei, Bifidobacterium animals, Bifidobacterium longum, Bifidobacterium bifidum, and Lactobacillus plantarum) on the comorbidity of depression and constipation.
Chronic constipation is the most common gastrointestinal symptom reported by PD patients; it could be one of the manifestations of disease onset. Study to gather information on the acceptability of a new flavor system with increasing levels of 2, 4, 6 g or higher of the sugar alcohol Mannitol for Polyethylene glycol (PEG) 3350 a drug stimulating bowel movement to pass stool in subjects having infrequent bowel movements. The taste of the various preparations will be measured by use of a rating scale.
Recent data support the use of specific probiotic strains in a pediatric population. However, given the wide number of commercial products available, and contradictory data in the literature, healthcare providers and consumers are uncertain about whether or not to use probiotics in children and which one(s) to choose. While much progress has been made in understanding the gastrointestinal microbiota and its role in the balanced development of the infant immune system, the tolerability and efficacy of introducing beneficial microbes into the pediatric gastrointestinal tract remain underexplored. This study has a single center, prospective, open label design. The population will include patients diagnosed with Rome IV Functional Constipation who are at the time of study enrollment being managed with a stable dose of Linzess. They will stop taking their Linzess, undergo monitoring of bowel habits for 2 weeks, have a HygiRelief procedure and then undergo an additional 2 weeks of bowel habit monitoring.
