Filter by:This protocol study aims to evaluate the efficacy of the MOVI-ageing intervention, a complex home-based eHealth intervention of cognitive-demanding exercise for the elderly, in improving: global cognitive function and basic cognitive functions and cardiorespiratory and muscular fitness. In addition, this sudy aims to evaluate the efficacy of the MOVI-ageing intervention, in improving: body composition (waist circumference and fat percentage), blood pressure, and health-related quality of life. The MOVI-ageing project has been designed in three phases comprising: i) a tool development study; ii) a 12-week randomized efficacy/feasibility trial of the intervention; and iii), a large-scale implementation phase with a 12-week randomized trial. The investigators will use a qualitative approach to improve the plataform design with the users perspective. Participants will have access to a platform where participants will be able to view videos of cognitively demanding physical exercise programs. The videos will be directed by an avatar and the research staff will be able to know the degree of compliance with the program and the correct execution of the program through the use of Physio Galenus technology. The platform will have information on how to be more active, and chat lines to communicate with the research group. Participants will receive feedback on their compliance with the routines and reinforcement messages.
The purpose of this study is to investigate the brain activity associated with cognitive tasks (thinking, reasoning, remembering) in order to understand how the brain works during certain tasks and to improve treatment for diseases like dementia and attention deficit disorders. Cognitive (thinking) impairment may include poor memory function, poor attention span, or psychiatric disorders (ex: ADD, depression). The investigators are interested in the brain activity related to these issues, and want to investigate changes in brain activity while we record activity from specific areas of the brain. These recordings are in addition to clinical (routine or standard of care) recordings being performed to monitor for seizures and do not impact the clinical care.
Postoperative agitation is a common complication in pediatric anesthesia, with an incidence ranging from 10% to 80%. Common surgical procedures in children include tonsillectomy, adenoidectomy, insidious penis prolongation and circumcision, etc. Postoperative delirium and agitation is a clinical emergency, and can have detrimental effects on the child's health. The primary clinical manifestations include disorganized movements, moaning, incoherent speech, confusion and paranoid characters, inability to be concentrated, and irritability, obstinacy or uncooperative; all these would increase the risks of falling out of bed, possible fractures, and all kinds of tube loss. These symptoms would sustain postoperative recovery significantly and pose a possible long-term neurological dysfunction. As a result, an extended hospitalization, elevated in-hospital mortality rate, escalated medical expenses, heightened risk of cognitive impairment, reduced quality of life, and increased incidence of postoperative complications. Traditional acupuncture has been shown to improve cerebral micro-circulation, correct energy metabolism disorders, alleviate chronic pain and regulate visceral function, lessen fatigue and modulate immune. Moreover, acupuncture is a simple, effective and safe therapy. Electroacupuncture therapy is produced and developed on the basis of acupuncture therapy, which has a regulatory effect on multiple systems of the body and can play a regulatory effect that is consistent with normal physiological regulation. Modern medicine believes that the anterior cingulate gyrus, hippocampus, and other regions of the limbic system are the possible center control of emotion and cognition. Electroacupuncture treatment can help accelerate the recovery of central nervous system function, which plays a protective role on the central nerve system, especially the brain, within 24-72 hours after electroacupuncture treatment. At the same time, electroacupuncture is beneficial to the recovery of immune function postoperatively, it can promote the release of central neurotransmitters and improve receptor activity, so as to play a role in postoperative analgesia, reduce the dosage of anesthetics, brain protection, neurological function rehabilitation, and so on. According to scientific research, it also posses a certain effect on the prevention and treatment of postoperative delirium. Sevoflurane is an inhale anesthetic which is widely used in clinics for pediatric general anesthesia. Due to the high incidence of postoperative delirium and agitation, it has been given rise to great concern on pediatric clinical anesthesia. In order to reduce delirium and agitation incidence, the investigators apply electroacupuncture in pediatric for sevoflurane combined with intravenous general anesthesia, aim to target a safe way to lessen postoperative brain complications on pediatric. This is a single-center experimental study that employs randomization, triple-blinding, and control study. Pediatric patients were randomly assigned to two groups, sevoflurane general anesthesia group (S group) and electroacupuncture group (E group), 40 patients, respectively. Anesthesia induction, maintenance, and monitoring be performed identically in both groups, the S group will not receive electroacupuncture treatment, the E group will receive electroacupuncture therapy. Electroacupuncture intervention will be performed by blinded acupuncture physicians, visitor who is blind to collect preoperative, intraoperative and postoperative data while visiting patients, data statisticians, who are blind to the intervention, data collection, conducted statistical analyses on the data electronically.
The purpose of this research is to examine whether and to what extent training of different types of cognitive engagement will improve performance on fluid cognitive abilities that typically decline with age. The research covered by this protocol will use behavioral data that yield response latencies and accuracies of the untrained tasks, and brain activations in fMRI tasks, to test specific hypotheses about neural plasticity and cognitive plasticity from these engagement techniques. Hence, human subjects will be employed in an experiment lasting for 20 hours spanning over 2 months where they will either receive real-time strategy-based videogame training or crystallized intelligence training. In addition, long-term retention data will be obtained after 6 month post-training to investigate any long-term benefits.
DARIDOR-ALZ is a phase IV clinical trial designed to evaluate both the efficacy and safety of daridorexant, a selective dual orexin receptor antagonist that blocks the actions of the orexin neuropeptides at both orexin-1 and orexin-2 receptors, in selected populations of MCI and mild-to-moderate AD patients with insomnia complaints.
1. On the basis of previous studies, standardized randomized controlled clinical trials were conducted to observe the efficacy and safety of acupuncture in the treatment of mild cognitive impairment after stroke using the international rating scale, and the clinical experience was transformed into evidence. 2. According to the clinical outcomes reported by patients, the differences between Chinese and western scales in evaluating mild cognitive impairment after stroke were compared. On the basis of "disease differentiation, syndrome differentiation and meridian differentiation", the syndrome differentiation and treatment system of mild cognitive impairment after stroke was preliminarily constructed, and the TCM syndrome prediction model was improved.
The aim of our study is to reveal whether static and dynamic balance tests can be an indicator of deterioration in cognitive impairments in geriatric individuals.
The objective of this exploratory study is to elucidate the underlying cerebral mechanisms of cognitive deficits. To achieve this, the investigator will apply functional brain imaging techniques to patients suffering from cognitive deficits due to cerebral lesions. The investigator will employ a "single-case" approach, suitable for studying rare behavioral profiles such as acquired reading disorders (alexia) or visual perception impairments (agnosia). If necessary, the investigator will use multiple non-invasive imaging methods in the same patients, including: 1. Magnetic Resonance Imaging (structural and functional), renowned for its spatial resolution and the diverse information it provides, and 2. Electrophysiological methods (MEG and EEG), notable for their temporal resolution. The employed stimuli will consist of visual or auditory presentations of verbal material (words, sentences, numbers, etc.), potentially combined with the collection of simple vocal or motor responses (button presses). The results will be interpreted by integrating the neuropsychological analysis of the deficit and the lesion topography. Importantly, following the methodology of single-case neuropsychology, the stimulation protocols will be modulated and adapted to each individual case. Consequently, parallel data should be collected from healthy control subjects whenever necessary. For protocol development, the investigator will also collect purely behavioral data, without brain imaging, from groups of control subjects.
The goal of this observational study is to explore the optimal dose of computerized cognitive training in patients with cognitive impairment. The main questions it aims to answer are: - Is there an optimal dose of computerized cognitive training for patients with cognitive impairment? - Is the optimal dose different in patients in different age populations? Participants enrolled in the study took a reported computerized cognitive training program and the training data were analyzed for exploring the optimal dose. The researchers will compare the different dose groups to see if there is an optimal dose for the highest improvement in cognitive abilities. The researchers will additionally compare two age groups (aged younger than 60y or aged 60y and older) to see if the optimal doses in the two groups are different.
To test the effects of 6 month additional intervention of ORIENT diet versus usual medical treatment for Intracranial / Carotid Stenosis on cognitive decline, multi-mode MRI image markers and serum and fecal biomarkers in a randomized controlled trial of 120 patients with intracranial / carotid stenosis, who are aged older than 40 years and without dementia.
