Filter by:Since the appearance of presurgical infant orthopedic (PSIO) as a treatment for patients with cleft lip and palate ( CLP) , numerous techniques have been described with the aim of aligning the displaced alveolar segments and restoring the position of the lateral cartilage, thus improving the results of primary surgery. Currently, the most used technique in the different protocols is the nasoalveolar molding (NAM) described by Grayson, from which variants and modifications have emerged in order to improve its results and provide greater comfort for both the patient and their caregivers. However, the main drawback of traditional acrylic NAM is the need for sequential addition of acrylic to reduce the size of the indentation. These weekly adjustments consume time and resources for the caregiver and the orthodontist. Likewise, it has been observed that acrylic resin can cause inflammation, irritation and gingival ulceration due to excessive pressure. PSIO treatment in newborns is a complex procedure that could benefit from simplification through digitization, providing accuracy and precision, avoiding risks such as respiratory obstruction and cyanosis that can be produced by taking impressions with alginates or silicones, most of them needing to be performed under general anesthesia. Until now, infant care has been left out of such digitization, despite the fact that the majority of babies who need early orthodontic treatment often suffer from craniofacial disorders. However, in recent years numerous advances have been made in this type of treatment, both in taking records, and in the application of more physiological, lighter and constant forces, providing greater comfort, better acceptance and less pain for the patient . These changes represent a great advance applicable to patients with CLP.
The aim of this research is to evaluate the skeletal and dental maturation of cleft lip and palate patients in a sample of Egyptian population using the CVM as indicator for the skeletal maturation and the Demirjian method as indicator for the dental one when compared to a group of Egyptian non-CLP subjects of the same age.
The aim of the present study is to determine the effect of surgically repaired UCLP on dental arch dimensions and the need for orthodontic intervention in comparison with other healthy children , the presence of dental anomalies and the best possible standards of care among this group of Egyptian children.
Two groups of patients with repaired unilateral cleft lip deformity having mild to moderate grooving and/or scarring of the philtral column and requiring a secondary cleft lip repair. - The first group will receive upper lip fat injections into the philtral column (and other areas of volume insufficiency if needed) after manual fat liposuction from the abdomen. - The second group will receive surgical lip revision with reconstruction of the orbicularis oris muscle using inverted horizontal mattress sutures for enhancement of the philtral ridge.
Single blind prospective randomized comparative study. 76 children between 6 months and 3 years with cleft lip will be divided in two groups. 38 children group C conventional group and 38 children group S infraorbital nerve block group.
Aim of the study: to compare the effect of Hyrax appliance and the Haas appliance improving the transverse skeletal and dental dimensions in cleft lip and palate patients during mixed dentition.
Peri-operative opioid administration has long been one of the three pillars of 'balanced anaesthesia',over the span of just a few years, opioids were widely used in perioperative analgesia because of pain as the fifth vital sign. However, opioid administration is not without concern and is associated with many side-effects such as constipation, urinary retention, respiratory depression and postoperative nausea and vomiting .Cleft lip, palate, alveolus are common craniofacial abnormalities and usually require surgical repair. These patients have risks for various perioperative complications due to their young age and craniofacial abnormalities. This study was designed to compare the effects of opioid based anesthesia(OBA) and opioid free anesthesia(OFA )on perioperative complications in patients with in cleft lip, palate, alveolus surgery, including respiratory depression, postoperative nausea and vomiting, hemodynamic effects, etc.
The aim of the study is to assess arch dimensions among children with surgically repaired unilateral cleft lip and palate.
Direct benefit of the research to assess the relationship between cleft lip and / or palate (different types) and ABO blood groups.
Newborns with unilateral cleft lip/ palate will be treated pre-surgically by Vacuum formed aligners in order to evaluate its effect on Nasoalveolar complex.
