Filter by:This project aims to investigate cardiac function in patients with cirrhosis in the acute setting. Acute decompensation and acute-on-chronic liver failure are major events in the life of a patient as they herald disease progression and negative prognosis. Cardiocirculatory function will be assessed by serial assessments in patients admitted for acute decompensation of cirrhosis.
The aim of this prospective observational study is to evaluate the impact of acute kidney injury on sarcopenia and frailty in patients with liver cirrhosis.
Study the impact of differing meal contents on venous ammonia levels over time in patients with cirrhosis. Patients will be given specific meals and venous ammonia analyzed over time after those meals. The subjects will also provide stool for microbiome and serum, urine and plasma for metabolomics during this one-time study. Total duration=4 hours
This pilot study to determine the feasibility of EUS-Portal Pressure Measurements to guide Beta-Blocker Therapy in patients with compensated cirrhosis .The study will be a prospective tandem controlled trial consisting of 30 patients who are already undergoing routine endoscopy screening for portal hypertension as part of their routine clinical care . The decision to start a beta-blocker will be made at the conclusion of the EGD based on the endoscopic findings (presence of esophageal varices). EUS-PPG will then be performed and measurements will be collected. The primary outcome is the feasibility of guiding B blocker therapy by EGD+EUS-PPG at the time of EGD for variceal screening. The secondary outcome will be the proportion of patients initiated on beta-blocker therapy based on EGD alone versus EGD+EUS-PPG
OCE-205 is being tested to treat participants who have developed Hepatorenal Syndrome-Acute Kidney Injury as a complication of cirrhosis with ascites. The study aims are to evaluate the safety and efficacy of OCE-205 at various doses. Participants will receive treatment by intravenous infusion. Participants will continue with this treatment until participants meets primary endpoint or any discontinuation criteria.
The purpose of this study is to determine whether Apixaban is effective and safe in Prevention of Portal Vein Thrombosis in Liver Cirrhotic Patients after Laparoscopic Splenectomy and Azygoportal Disconnection
This study aimed to evaluate whether vagus nerve-guided robotic-assisted splenectomy and azygoportal disconnection is effective and safe, and to determine whether a reduction in the incidence of postoperative complications of the digestive system improves postoperative quality of life compared with conventional robotic-assisted splenectomy and azygoportal disconnection.
Liver transplantation is increasingly performed for older adults with multiple comorbidities. Medication adherence is key to maintaining proper function of the transplanted liver and optimize health; however, adhering to post-transplant treatment is complex. This trial will study how available technology combined with transplant center resources and caregiver support can optimize medication adherence, quality of life, and health outcomes among new liver transplant recipients at 3 centers.
Although a life-saving intervention, invasive mechanical ventilation (MV) prone to complications and side effects. Cirrhotic patients with a need of prolonged MV have a poor prognosis in ICU compared to general population of critically ill patients. The optimal time for weaning from MV and extubation is therefore a crucial objective. Extubation failure is defined as the need for reintubation within 48-72 hours (early). This time frame is sometimes extended to 7 days (delayed), especially when noninvasive ventilation is used during extubation (SFAR-SRLF 2018 recommendations). Some studies have investigated the risk factors for extubation failure in general population of critically ill patients, and in some specific subpopulations (COPD, brain injury, elderly). But little is known about extubation failure in cirrhotic patients admitted in ICU. The aim of the present study is to describe the incidence and identify specific risk factors for extubation failure in cirrhotic critically ill patients. Ultrasound and clinical data will be collected and analysed during the ICU stay.
This is a single-center blinded randomized interventional placebo-controlled study of the effect of probiotics on hemodynamic parameters and liver function in cirrhosis.
