Microwave Ablation Combined With Chemotherapy for Colorectal Liver Metastases: a Multicenter Cohort Study

Colorectal cancer is the second deadliest malignant tumor worldwide, and liver is the most common site of hematogenic metastasis of Colorectal cancer. Surgery is an effective treatment for colorectal cancer with liver metastasis, however, only 10%-20% of patients with liver metastasis are feasible for radical surgical resection. Many single-center retrospective studies have demonstrated that thermal ablation for liver metastases is comparable to surgery. Chemotherapy can kill the microscopic cancer foci of the liver. The timing of ablation-related chemotherapeutic administration still needs to be explained. The purpose of this study was to compare the clinical efficacy of thermal ablation or combined with perioperative chemotherapy and postoperative chemotherapy in the treatment of colorectal cancer with liver metastasis.

Neoadjuvant Afatinib Combination With Chemotherapy for Stage Ⅱa-Ⅲb NSCLC With EGFR Activating Mutation

The recommended adjuvant therapy for stage Ⅱa-Ⅲb Non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) were perioperative chemotherapy. The adjuvant or neoadjuvant chemotherapy for early stage lung cancer improved about 5% 5-year survival. As for advanced NSCLC with epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) activating mutation, epidermal growth factor receptor-tyrosine kinase inhibitor (EGFR-TKI) combination with chemotherapy had improved progression-free survival (PFS) compared with EGFR-TKI alone. We propose this trial of Neoadjuvant Afatinib Combination With Chemotherapy for Stage Ⅱa-Ⅲb NSCLC With EGFR Activating Mutation, which would maximize benefit early in a patient's treatment course. At the same time, dynamic 18F-2-fluoro-2-deoxy-D-glucose positron emission tomography (18F-FDG PET) was used to evaluate the standardized uptake value (SUV) and uptake rate constant (Ki) changes of lesions before and after treatment, so as to accurately and quantitatively monitor the tumor response of different therapy.

Medical cannabis is indicated in Israel for the treatment of chronic pain, spasticity and for the control of pain and other symptoms in patients with cancer. The proposed study aims are to study about the changes in level of endocannabinoids following continuous exposure to phytocannabinoids and about the long-term effect of medical cannabis on CIPN.

Feasibility of Frailty Assessment and Implementation of Interventions in Women Over 70 With Epithelial Ovarian Cancer

Ovarian cancer is frequently diagnosed in older women, with over half of all new diagnoses being in women over 65 years. Current treatment options are based on the results of clinical trials that often do not include older, less fit patients in whom treatments may be less well tolerated. Further, in older patients the impact of complex medical and social issues is not known. The UK lags behind Europe and the United States in the development of research programs dedicated to improving outcomes for older patients. More research focus is urgently required to improve the assessment and management of older women with ovarian cancer to improve survival outcomes, quality of life and functional independence. Current treatment decisions are made predominantly on age and fitness. However, it has been shown that undertaking a holistic, geriatric assessment of older patients can highlight important issues that would not necessarily be identified in a routine oncology appointment. In this study, we propose to ask oncology teams to undertake a geriatric assessment and specifically address issues that may arise as a result of this. The assessment comprises 8 simple non-invasive assessments that can be performed in the out-patient setting. This approach could result in an important change in clinical practice leading to more holistic assessment of older cancer patients and better address their specific needs and manage their cancer treatment. The long-term goal is to show that pro-actively managing potential issues at the beginning of treatment allows patients to tolerate treatment and maintain their functional independence, leading to improved quality of life.

Careseng 1370 for Healthy Volunteers

This study will be performed in healthy volunteers in a conventional 3+3 dose-escalation design. Four cohorts (dose level A, B, C, and D) of up to 6 evaluable volunteers per cohort are planned to be sequentially accrued to receive Careseng 1370 1, 2, 3 and 4 sachets per day, 4,000 mg/sachet before meal (starting from 1 sachet). At least 5 days of staggering and with the investigator's judgement of no safety concern will be required to administer the next volunteer for the first three volunteers of each cohort. The staggering time is counted from Day 1 of one volunteer to Day 1 of the next volunteer. Careseng 1370 should be taken around 1 hour before meal. No volunteer is allowed to be assigned to more than 1 dose level. All dose escalation/de-escalation decisions will be made by the Data and Safety Monitoring Board (DSMB).
