Efficacy of LipiFlow in Patients Affected by Meibomian Gland Dysfunction in Reducing Post-cataract Surgery Dry Eye

Dry Eye Disease (DED) is a disease of the ocular surface which may be secondary to a variety of causes, including cataract surgery. DED is characterized by loss of tear film stability and dry eye symptoms, and its pathogenesis is related to corneal nerve injury, decreased goblet cells, inflammation of the ocular surface, and dysfunction of the meibomian glands (MGD). MGD is the main cause of evaporative DED and can cause irregularity of the ocular surface, affecting the accuracy of the biometric calculation. In addition, it is a risk factor for DED exacerbation after cataract surgery, that may occur in about 40% of cases. Current therapies for DED include artificial tears, warm compresses, manual squeezing of the glands, eyelid hygiene, omega-3 fatty acids, topical cyclosporine, serum tears, topical azithromycin, oral doxycycline. The above therapies in some cases can provide only transient relief, affecting the outcome of cataract surgery and the quality of life of patients. Therefore, stabilization of the ocular surface before cataract surgery is important to achieve better post-operative comfort and a better refractive result. The introduction of LipiFlow thermal pulsation treatment (LTP) represents a controlled method of squeezing the obstructed Meibomian glands by applying heat to the upper and lower eyelids and simultaneously applying pulsatile pressure to the eyelid skin surfaces. The aim of our study will be to evaluate the effect of preoperative LipiFlow therapy in patients with age-related cataracts and mild to moderate MGD in reducing postoperative DED.

PMCF Retrospective Study Outcomes of a Monofocal Toric Intraocular Lens

This is a monocentric retrospective, open-label clinical study in patients after unilateral or bilateral implantation of hydrophobic acrylic monofocal toric intraocular lens PODEYE TORIC and executed only with standard of care examinations. The investigational device is CE approved. The investigational device and all study products, including the devices used for the study examinations, have been used within the intended use specifications from the manufacturer. In addition, there were no invasive or other burdening examinations. The investigator is an accredited and experienced cataract surgeon and researcher. The primary endpoint is to determine rotational stability in a minimum of 120 eyes of patients with PODEYE TORIC IOL implantation after cataract surgery. Patients will be enrolled for the documentation and evaluation of retrospective data up to 6 months postoperatively.

Proof-of-concept Study for a New Intraocular Lens, MODEL C0001

This study is a 12-month, prospective, 2-arm (1 test & 1 control), randomized (1 test:1 control), bilateral, subject/evaluator-masked clinical investigation of the EPV IOL versus the standard TECNIS monofocal control IOL. The study will be conducted at a minimum of one to a maximum of five sites in France, with a total of 40 evaluable subjects for the investigational lens group and 40 evaluable subjects for the control lens group participating in the sub-study. The peripheral and functional testing will be conducted on a sub-group of subjects who achieve binocular uncorrected distance visual acuity (UCDVA) of 0.2 logMAR or better and/or are able to perform the driving simulator-sickness testing as determined by patient response to the SSQ (Appendix D) at the first 1-month visit. The eye implanted first will be considered the primary study eye (first eye). Subjects will be randomized to either the investigational IOL Model C0001 or the control IOL Model ZCB00 in both eyes.

Vision Performance Evaluation of TECNIS EYHANCE™ With TECNIS SIMPLICITY™ Compared to TECNIS® 1-piece Intraocular Lenses

This study is a 6-month, prospective, multicenter, bilateral, randomized subject- and evaluator-masked, clinical investigation of the TECNIS Eyhance IOL versus the TECNIS 1-piece IOL. The study will be conducted at up to 15 sites in the U.S.A and will enroll approximately 220 subjects to achieve approximately 200 randomized and bilaterally implanted subjects, resulting in approximately 100 evaluable subjects in each lens group at 6 months. Subjects are to be implanted with the same IOL in both eyes: TECNIS Eyhance IOL or the TECNIS 1-Piece IOL. The eye implanted first will be considered the primary study eye.
