Hypotheses: 1. The addition of tumour bed boost after BCS in women with non-low risk DCIS reduces the risk of local recurrence (invasive or intraductal recurrence in the ipsilateral breast). 2. The risk of local recurrence in the shorter fractionation arm is not worse than that for the standard fractionation arm. 3. A molecular signature predictive of invasive recurrence of DCIS will be detectable and the molecular signature may eventually have clinical utility for therapy individualization. Overall Objectives: 1. To improve the outcome of women with non-low risk DCIS treated with breast conserving therapy. 2. To individualize treatment selection for women with DCIS to achieve long term disease control with minimal toxicity.
Emerging from a differential proteomic study of sample pairs of prostate cancer and benign tissue, annexin A3 (ANXA3) was chosen as a potential novel biomarker for the early and non-invasive diagnosis of prostate cancer. We wanted to show or investigate, that: - ANXA3 can be detected in urine after standard digital rectal examination. - ANXA3 has better specificities than tPSA, in particular in the grey zone of PSA - ANXA3 can help avoid unnecessary biopsies - ANXA3 can in the long run replace PSA as a marker
The purpose of this study is to determine if wide excision (surgical removal) alone is adequate treatment for small, grade 1 or 2 ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS) of the breast.
RATIONALE: Estrogen can cause the growth of breast cancer cells. Hormone therapy using fulvestrant or tamoxifen may fight breast cancer by blocking the use of estrogen by the tumor cells. Giving fulvestrant or tamoxifen before surgery may be an effective treatment for breast cancer. PURPOSE: This randomized clinical trial is studying how well giving fulvestrant or tamoxifen works in treating postmenopausal women who are undergoing surgery for ductal carcinoma in situ of the breast.
RATIONALE: Radiation therapy uses high-energy x-rays to damage tumor cells. It is not yet known whether radiation therapy after surgery is effective in preventing a recurrence of ductal carcinoma in situ. PURPOSE: This randomized phase II trial is studying adjuvant radiation therapy to see how well it works compared to observation after surgery in treating women with estrogen receptor positive or progesterone receptor positive ductal carcinoma in situ and are also receiving either tamoxifen or anastrozole.
RATIONALE: Chemoprevention therapy is the use of certain drugs to try to prevent the development of or treat early cancer. SGN-00101 may be effective in preventing the development of cervical cancer in patients with cervical intraepithelial neoplasia. PURPOSE: This randomized phase II trial is studying how well SGN-00101 works in preventing cervical cancer in patients with cervical intraepithelial neoplasia and human papillomavirus.
