Biliary stricture is a common complication after end-to-end biliary anastomosis, especially after liver transplantation. This study is designed to investigate the safety and efficacy of magnetic recanalization technique, a newly clinical method, for treating biliary anastomotic stricture.
To examine the feasibility of intermittent fasting (36h, twice a week, unlimited salt and calorie-free fluid consumption), over three months, on body weight and composition in complicated obesity in whom age and medical complexity exclude the possibility of bariatric surgery.
The severity stratification criteria for acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) in Xi'ning Qinghai province (mean altitude: 2200m) were clarified according to the oxygenation index (PaO2/FiO2).
Loss of muscle can be caused by a variety of stimuli and results in reduced mobility and strength and also impacts whole body health. Whilst it is known that muscles waste the process by which this occurs is not well understood. Furthermore, whilst some muscles waste quickly others seem resistant to the effects of disuse. This study aims to evaluate how quickly changes in muscles start to occur, and investigate the processes which underlie muscle atrophy. By studying muscles which waste quickly and those which are resistant to atrophy this study aims to identify the different processes which lead to muscle loss. This study will also evaluate the differences in muscle changes between young and old people.
Alzheimer's disease is the most frequent neurocognitive disorder associated with dementia, with a constantly increasing prevalence associated with an aging population. Amyloid deposition is considered as the first molecular event on the onset of Alzheimer's disease. It has already been demonstrated that low-dose radiotherapy is capable of reducing Alzheimer's disease-associated amyloid-β plaques and improving cognitive function in an animal model. In human, low-dose radiotherapy has demonstrated effectiveness in reducing bronchial amyloidosis. The present study aims to conduct research by including 10 patients with a diagnosis of mild or moderately severe Alzheimer's disease and with evidence of amyloid pathology. Furthermore, the aim is to demonstrate the effectiveness of low-dose radiotherapy in reducing amyloid deposits in the human brain using molecular imaging (Flutemetamol(18F) PET) along with treatment of the specific target.
This is a prospective randomized study intended to assess the efficacy of erector spinae plane analgesia on acute and chronic postoperative pain for VATS procedures. It will include 72 patients presenting to Severance hospital for a VATS procedure. Patients will be randomized 1:1 to receive either ESP block and intravenous patient-controlled analgesia (IV PCA) or IV PCA only. Ropivacaine will be used in nerve block, and injected at the end of surgery. The primary outcome will be to compare analgesic efficacy between the two groups as defined by immediate postoperative pain scores on the numeric pain rating scale. Secondary outcomes include total opioid consumption, painDETECT score, and chronic pain scores.
There is little evidence about the mechanical characteristics and muscular function in patients with Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS) at the time of weaning of the mechanical ventilation, as well as the behavior of the mechanical properties, breathing pattern, muscular effort, and gas exchange during a successful and failed spontaneous breathing trial.
This is a single-blinded, randomized controlled trial to explore the effectiveness of acupuncture in the treatment of the pain due to TMD using the latest diagnostic criteria combined with subjective and objective indexes.
The incidence of provoked and unprovoked seizures is known to increase with advancing age. Eslicarbazepine acetate (ESL) is one of the third generation of antiepileptic drugs (AEDs) that have been developed in the last ten years with a favorable safety profile. ESL is approved in Europe and the USA as adjunctive or monotherapy in adults with partial-onset seizures. Nevertheless, retrospective data in monotherapy condition in the elderly epileptic population are sparse. The aim of the ZEBRE study is to evaluate the efficacy and the safety of ESL in elderly epileptic patients (> 65 years). The completion of this study will provide crucial information on the most appropriate ESL treatment for elderly patients suffering from partial seizures.
This is a single arm study to evaluate the efficacy and safety of BCMA-targeted CAR-T cells therapy for patients with relapsed/refractory Multiple Myeloma.
