Filter by:The goal of this observational study is to learn about the personality attributes and values of people living with obesity that are part of the Latino community, and how these personality attributes and values can help to predict success during a weight loss program. The main questions it aims to answer are: - What are the personality attributes and values of people living with obesity that sign up to the LCSS-Latino Crossover Semaglutide Study trial? - Can behavioral artificial intelligence (a computer formula) predict which patients will complete the LCSS-Latino Crossover Semaglutide Study trial? - How do behavioral artificial Intelligence predictions (a computer formula) compare to clinician predictions of patient success? - Can behavioral artificial intelligence (a computer formula) predict patient weight loss, calorie consumption and physical activity levels during the LCSS-Latino Crossover Semaglutide Study trial? Participants will be recorded in English and Spanish while responding to a question regarding participation in a weight loss study.
This pilot and feasibility study will collect information from food insecure, as well as food secure, women with obesity to detail their desires and needs for healthy weight reduction. Up to 60 women with obesity will be enrolled. Pennington Biomedical Research Center will coordinate this qualitative study and use focus groups discussion to collect formative data.
The overall aim of this project is to compare protein supplementation on performance, recovery, and body composition changes in adolescent soccer players between the whey protein and the control group in response to the 10-12-week intervention.
This study is to evaluate the physical and cognitive effects of a 15 min per day novel breathing and mindfulness moving-meditation program on metabolism, cognition, and emotion health. It is thought that the breathing and movement program will increase basal metabolism, facilitate fat loss, and decrease depressive behaviors. Anthropometric, blood chemistries, and cognitive measures of depression, sleep, and hunger will be measured over a two-month interventional program.
In this placebo-controlled trial the effect of a synbiotic consisting of three different strains of Lactobacillus fermentum and acacia gum (gum arabic) was compared with a probiotic formulation containing identical strains on body fat mass, body weight management, traits of metabolic syndrome and gut permeability in individuals who are abdominally overweight.
This study proposed an integrated multi-disciplinary approach including a professional and convenient body composition measurement and an immediate counselling after the measurement, followed by 6-month smart-phone based individualized counselling. We believe that this approach will promote healthy eating behaviors and weight management among middle-aged Chinese in Hong Kong.
The purpose of this study is to evaluate the safety and performance of DTXO App in improving weight loss and weight-loss maintenance in obese patients exposed to an experimental non-pharmacological treatment program. The App will include a dietary plan and customized advice program, a customized physical exercise program plan, a cognitive- behavioral assessment and support program, alerts and reminders on prescribed drugs intake and on dietary and exercise program, chat and online visits with clinical professionals, and trophies to improve patient engagement.
Closed kinetic chain (CKC) exercises are exercises in which body weight is carried on the distal segment. It is considered advantageous and reliable in many respects compared to open kinetic chain exercises (OKC). For the restoration of functional stability in shoulder rehabilitation, it is recommended to use CKC exercises that carry body weight from the early period. Plank exercise, which is frequently used to strengthen the core area in rehabilitation programs, is performed by transferring weight on the upper extremity. For this reason, it is thought that this exercise will provide an isometric load on the shoulder and scapula muscles. In many previous studies, it has been observed that scapular muscle activations also change with the changes in stability (support surface properties, etc.) in plank exercises and variations in a way that provides a more stable exercise environment. However, as the difficulty level of the used moving floor increased (using softer or unstable surfaces), it was seen that the increase in muscle activation levels was more in favor of the upper trapezius muscle (UT). In a study, it was observed that the UT / Middle Trapeze (MT), UT / Lower Trapezius (LT), UT / Serratus Anterior (SA) ratios were lower in the 3-point supported plank exercise performed on one hand. For this reason, it is thought that while the difficulty level of plank variations is increased in shoulder rehabilitation, body position changes will be more effective in maintaining optimal scapular muscle activation rates instead of using a moving floor. Based on this information, investigating the muscular activation levels for the scapular and shoulder girdle muscles during different variations of the plank exercise in terms of load levels in the targeted muscles will provide valuable information for the management of shoulder exercise programs and post-operative rehabilitation. It was planned to include 21 healthy physically active individuals between the ages of 18-45 in the study. Muscle activation levels during maximum voluntary isometric contraction (MVIC) of each muscle will be recorded to normalize muscle activation levels during plank variations. Muscle activation levels will be evaluated with a surface electromyography device (Noraxon, Myomotion, USA).
The goal of this randomized control trial (RCT) is to test the feasibility and acceptability of a lifestyle intervention with a focus on implementing a high dose Mediterranean Diet protocol with physical activity to reduce systemic inflammation and body weight among WTC first responders having overweight/obesity and PTSD. The findings of this study will demonstrate the suitability of the proposed approach to reduce comorbidities among similar populations exposed to traumatic events; the findings will also inform the World Trade Center Health Program's extensive research and clinical efforts with the potential to provide a preventive care model to reduce systemic inflammation and related chronic disease among WTC responders with PTSD.
Higher-weight individuals face pervasive weight-related stigma and discrimination in their daily lives. There is conceptual and empirical evidence to suggest that weight stigma contributes to worse physical and psychological health outcomes, mediated by the deleterious psychobiological responses to psychosocial stress. Activating self-soothing emotional states (such as self-compassion) may protect against this psychobiological cascade, conferring resilience to negative social evaluation (such as weight stigma). This proof-of-concept study aims to establish the feasibility of an experimental protocol testing whether an acute self-compassion intervention can attenuate the psychobiological stress response to induced weight-based social-evaluative threat. Participants will be randomized into either self-compassion intervention or rest control groups. A standard body composition assessment will be used to induce weight stigma among young women who self-identify as "higher-weight." Stress-sensitive biomarkers (i.e., salivary cortisol and heart-rate variability) along with psychological indices of self-conscious emotions will be used to quantify the psychobiological stress response. This novel pilot study will contribute to efforts to understand the psychobiological processes by which self-compassion facilitates adaptive responding to acute stress, and will help inform future tests of interventions focused on mitigating the harmful health effects of social stigma.
