Allergy prevalence is increasing steadily with some describing as the "epidemic of the twenty-first century". Maternal diet during pregnancy has been linked to offspring allergy risk, so it represents a potential target for allergy prevention. The Mediterranean Diet (MD) is considered one of the healthiest dietary models which exerts regulatory effects on immune system, due to the synergistic and interactive combinations of nutrients. We aim to study the effects of MD in pregnancy on the onset of allergic diseases at 2 years of age in the offspring.

Innovative lifestyle strategies to treat obesity and reduce colorectal cancer risk are critically needed. This research will demonstrate that time-restricted eating, a type of intermittent fasting, is an effective therapy to help obese individuals reduce and control their body weight and prevent the development of colorectal cancer.

Cold, Appetite and Weight Loss in Individuals With Obesity

This study is an 8 week weight loss intervention with 3 randomly assigned groups: DIET, cold exposure (CE), and DIET+CE. The study will be a total of 13 weeks. All participants will undergo a screening session, two experimental sessions at baseline and two experimental sessions after the intervention. There will be a control (ambient) experimental session and a cold exposure experimental session These will be done in a randomized order both before and after the intervention. Therefore, a total of 5 lab visits will be required for all participants regardless of group outside of their assigned group intervention. Participants in the CE and DIET+CE groups will report to the laboratory every 2nd day for the 8 week intervention to undergo cold exposure as outlined below. The DIET and DIET+CE groups will have a weekly nutritional consultation at the lab as well as a weekly check-in with the nutritionist via text, phone, or email. Participants will be randomly assigned a group after completing the screening session and prior to the experimental session.

Worldwide obesity has continued to increase over the past decades. Among the adult women, the overweight and obesity rates in Taiwan are much higher than that of women in nearby Asian countries. In particular, the body mass index of women with low health literacy exceeds the normal range before pregnancy. Without proper supervision, the increase in body weight during pregnancy may result in multiple maternal complications, affect the newborn's health, and increase unnecessary medical expenses in Taiwan's health care system. Thus, assessing pregnant women' s health literacy to manage their body weight is of importance. However, currently, there is no appropriate instrument available in Taiwan to assist health practitioners in assessing the health literacy of pregnant women for weight management. The aim of the study is to develop an instrument to measure the health literacy regarding weight management of pregnant women and examine its psychometric properties.

Addressing Anxiety and Stress for Healthier Eating in Teens

Project ASSET will explore the preliminary efficacy of interpersonal therapy, when compared with cognitive behavioral therapy, for reducing anxiety symptoms, preventing excess weight gain, and reducing cardio-metabolic risk in adolescent girls with above-average weight and elevated anxiety. As a pilot for a larger multi-site study, this trial will also test multi-site feasibility, acceptability, and intervention fidelity.

Impact Of Post-Bariatric Body Contouring Procedures on Patient Body Weight and Metabolism

Is post-bariatric body contouring surgery prevent weight regain or no, and what is the effect on the patient's Metabolism? Few literature studies report body contouring surgery to be positively associated with maintained weight loss after obesity surgery but the measures of outcomes are diverse, and the collective magnitude of such an association is unknown. The changes in gastrointestinal hormones, adipokines, and cytokines as well as in hypothalamic neuropeptides and neurotransmitters resemble the changes observed in the anorexia/cachexia, suggesting that bariatric surgery triggers a catabolic state responsible for loss of appetite and prolonged body weight reduction. Weight regain after gastric bypass surgery occurs in about half of all patients within 2 years. About 50% of patients eventually gain a little weight back after hitting their low point. We need a more thorough evaluation to determine what factors - medical, psychological, lifestyle - are involved in the weight gain. One of the factors that seem to be responsible for the degree and durability of weight loss is post-bariatric body contouring procedures. However, metabolic consequences of removing excess subcutaneous adipose tissue by body contouring procedures have to a lesser extent been explored

Calories Counting Using an App for Weight Loss

This research aims to measure anew way of calories counting using a mobile app on weight loss and adherence to the mobile app. The participants should be adults who is overweight or obese and should have a smartphone with access to the internet. The participants will fill a baseline survey, take the height and weight measurements, watch a video about the use of the calories counting and app. A follow up visit will be in 4 weeks to take the height and weight measurements and fill a questionnaire. There is an option for the participants to continue with the research for additional 11 months with visit at 3, 6 and 12 months.
