NCT ID: NCT04130529 Enrolling by invitation - Bipolar Disorder Clinical Trials

Better Sleep in Psychiatric Care - Bipolar

BSIP-Bipolar
Start date: October 1, 2019
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is treatment of choice for insomnia. Many patients in psychiatric care have sleep problems including insomnia, but are rarely given the choice to participate in CBT to improve their sleep. Patients with Bipolar disorder is a patient group with high levels of sleep difficulties. Sleep problems in this patient group can be both more general such as insomnia, but can also be related to the Bipolar disorder. Other research groups have studied the use of behaviorally sleep treatments in patients with Bipolar disorder, but more studies are needed. In a previous pilot study, the investigators of the current study developed a CBT protocol that would target sleep problems in this population. The basis was CBT for insomnia (CBT-i), but with more emphasis on achieving sleep promoting behaviors specific to Bipolar patients, for instance techniques that would also alleviate sleep phase problems, (e.g. the systematic use of light and darkness), and techniques to target more general sleep related problems (e.g. difficulties waking up in the morning), that are also common in patients with Bipolar disorder. This treatment was well tolerated and gave moderate effects on insomnia severity in the pilot study. In a naturalistic randomized controlled trial, the investigators now evaluate the effects of this psychological treatment on sleep and Bipolar symptoms in patients at the departments of Affective disorders, Northern Stockholm Psychiatry and Southwest Psychiatry, Stockholm, Sweden.

NCT ID: NCT04127604 Recruiting - Bipolar Disorder Clinical Trials

Post-Hospital Intervention for Veterans With Comorbid Bipolar and Substance Use Disorders

Start date: November 2, 2020
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

This trial aims to evaluate the effectiveness of a novel intervention for Veterans with co-occurring bipolar and substance use disorders following a psychiatric hospitalization. Half of the participants will receive a specialized psychosocial intervention program, while the other half will receive an enhanced safety monitoring program, both provided in addition to their routine care.

NCT ID: NCT04124744 Not yet recruiting - Schizophrenia Clinical Trials

A Pilot Randomised Controlled Trial of a Health Champion Intervention

Start date: April 2, 2020
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

This study is a pilot RCT to evaluate the effectiveness and implementation challenges of an intervention using volunteer 'Health Champions' matched with service users to support service their physical health goals.

NCT ID: NCT04123301 Recruiting - Bipolar Disorder Clinical Trials

Theta-Burst Stimulation in Major Depressive Episodes With Mixed Characteristics.

Start date: March 8, 2019
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

The investigators will perform a double-blind, randomized, sham-controlled clinical trial of theta-burst stimulation (TBS) in mixed depressive episodes of both bipolar and major depressive disorders. Will be selected 90 patients aged 18-65 years with diagnosis of TB (I or II) or MDD in moderate or severe major depressive episode with mixed features. The primary endpoint of efficacy will be a continuous outcome of change in Montgomery-Asberg Depression Rating Scale (MADRS) from baseline to week 3.

NCT ID: NCT04121091 Completed - Anhedonia Clinical Trials

Pramipexole to Target "Anhedonic Depression"

PILOT-PRAXOL
Start date: October 4, 2019
Phase: Phase 2
Study type: Interventional

The heterogeneity of depression suggests that different neurocircuits and pathophysiological mechanisms are involved. Anhedonia - the inability to experience pleasure from, or the lack of motivation to carry out, usually enjoyable activities - is an endophenotype within the depression spectrum, with a distinct pathophysiology of dopaminergic mesolimbic projections. Anhedonia is common in depression and associated with treatment resistance. Pramipexole, an agonist to the dopamine -receptor 3, is an established treatment of Parkinson's disease. Based on its mechanism of action, pramipexole might be efficacious in a subtype of depression characterized by anhedonia and lack of motivation - symptoms linked to dopaminergic hypofunction. In this proof-of-concept pilot study the investigators test the anti-anhedonic and antidepressant effects of add-on pramipexole using an "enriched population study design" including only depressed patients with significant anhedonia. To understand the neurobiology of anhedonia in depression and to identify treatment predictors, the investigators also do assessments of anhedonia-related neurocircuitry using (f)MRI and blood biomarkers.

NCT ID: NCT04118283 Recruiting - Schizophrenia Clinical Trials

Assessment and Treatment for Chronic Pain in Veterans With Serious Mental Illness

CPSMI
Start date: March 18, 2021
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Chronic pain has a highly negative impact on Veterans, especially those with serious mental illness (SMI). Chronic pain leads to poorer mental health and physical functioning, and represents a critical obstacle to rehabilitation and recovery. Despite known high prevalence rates of chronic pain in SMI populations, there is little research to: a) evaluate nonpharmacological pain management strategies in this population, and b) examine directional relations between chronic pain and SMI symptoms. This study aims to address research and clinical gaps by: a) testing the feasibility and acceptability of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Chronic Pain (CBT-CP) - a VA evidence-based psychotherapy for chronic pain - in Veterans with SMI, and b) better assessing the complex relation between chronic pain and psychiatric symptoms and their impact on functioning. Results from this study will inform us as to whether CBT-CP is feasible to implement, acceptable to Veterans with SMI, and worth examining in its standard or in an optimized form in a larger clinical trial.

NCT ID: NCT04098497 Completed - Bipolar Disorder Clinical Trials

Modeling Mood Course to Detect Markers for Effective Adaptive Interventions- Aim 3

Start date: September 13, 2019
Phase: Phase 1
Study type: Interventional

This study is a 6-week micro-randomized trial investigating the feasibility of a mobile health platform. Its long-term objective is to develop a mobile health platform for the translation of a psychosocial intervention for bipolar disorder (BP) into an effective and evidence-based adaptive intervention. In this aim of the study, investigators will evaluate how individuals with BP respond to a microintervention based in acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) that is delivered with a mobile app.
